@mazurkaawic they work great. im using mine right now, and its the first 2001 model 500mhz 256mb ram, 15gb hd, cd-rw, airport, os x tiger 10.4.11. you could find a better deal, i got mine for 41 dollars with a working battery.

How is the Flash Video Performance on that iBook G4 as I have a PowerBook G4 867MHz PPC G4 and 384MB of SDRAM and Mac OS X 10.4.11 and Flash Video is choppy and is always out of sync it is running the latest Flash and Firefox yet the video is bad!

Hi, I have a question on whether or not to get these ibooks. Some one in my city is selling an ibook g3 for $40. Sounds like a good deal but the battery is dead, it has the yoyo charger which the connection has been resoldered(he says it works though) and the hinge on the screen has poped out and so the display sits at an angle, and the dvd/cd drive doesnt work. Everthing else does though. it has 500 MHz g3, and 128 MB of ram. Should i get it?

airport cards are just for wireless internet. but u dont need an airport card, u can always just use a ethernet cable. so no G3 and G4 dont NEED a airport card, unless you want wireless internet, which is good to have on laptops.

No G3 based Mac can run Leopard as they've removed all the drivers for all past G3 Macs and they've only compiled it for G4 and up (AltiVec) and Intel processors. Running it on a G3 will always result in a kernel panic. However if you can upgrade a G3 Mac to a G4 processor, you can run it with a few tweaks.

@martinas32 If you did some hacking. I know somebody who installed leopard on their iMac G3. But it required hacking, took forever to start, and was very unstable. Plus, i really like tiger and snow leopard. If only i could get those 2 on my macbook pro.

You'll have to buy Office for Mac if you want it. But, there are free alternatives such as NeoOffice though and they work quite well.

I have sold the iBook because the GPU just conked out and no amount of reflowing would fix it. I'm pretty sure that I say in this video how much RAM it has. If I remember correctly, it had a 40GB hard drive and 256MB RAM. You might want to bump the RAM up a bit though.

YouTube videos seemed to run fine on the iBook. I didn't really use iMovie back when I had the iBook so I'm not sure if iMovie would work well.

If you are planning to get a cheap Apple notebook, I would recommend an iBook G3 (like the one in this video). The Clamshells are quite slow under what are considered small tasks under today's standards, e.g. simple internet browsing. I would recomment you get one with a fault like the one in the video. Then you can open it up and re-flow the GPU and get a fully working iBook relatively cheap. But if you don't want to mess around with that stuff, you can pay a bit more and get one fully working.

If your Tiger DVD is legitimate, Apple will let you swap your DVD for Tiger CDs for $10.

If you don't want to swap your disks or you don't have a legitimate version of Tiger, you can use an external DVD reader to read the discs. That's what I did for my iBooks.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think you hold down the F key and it works as a firewire harddrive!!

If you use a Mac with a DVD drive, I'm pretty sure if you set up Personal File Sharing in System Preferences and then hook both Macs up via Firewire, Ethernet, AirPort, etc. you'll be able to mount the DVD drive. I've done it with Leopard but I'm not sure if Tiger or before can do it. Some research is necessary.

The lighting background comes default with Tiger under the Black and White category.

You can put the pictures in the Pictures folder and the Mac will pick it up from there.

While it's off, you can open the optical drive with a pin or paperclip by poking it into the small hole in on the drive. While it's on, you can eject it by pressing the eject button on the keyboard (furthest top right key).

Somehow you can remove the restriction for G4s having to be 867MHz or higher but I'd rather do what's supported by Apple as much as possible. That way I know that I'll have no problems with it.

yea i heard about that and saw it i think its just a simple force the os onto the hdd using target thats what i had to do with my emac g4 cause i got it on monday it was a 1ghz but its the educational version which only has a cd drive but i have an external dvd burner
