hey Conner i am on a different Chanel know but i am amautars .OK thanks this helped alot and now going to get the Nikon 18-200mm vr ll thank and i love the photos on you website THEY amazing you a good photographer
Hey Conner, i am thinking about bying a d300s with the Nikon 18-200mm VR II lens as a kit at a local best buy. this would be my first camera other than point and shoot ones. would this be a good kit for me i am starting out but i love to take pics of nature and wildlife. By the way i love you pics on your web site there amazing!!
Thanks for the nice review. I need some suggestion (though not directly linked with this particular lens). Thinking of buying D90 - upgrading from D40. Have a 18-55 kit-lens and 55-200 vr. Should I buy D90 with 18-200 vr-II, or just the body and buy 70-300 vr and/or a wide (say Tokina 11-16)? 18-200 vr would be great all purpose, but that will essentially makes other two lenses somewhat useless. Bit of a dilemma. Any suggestion would be very much appreciated.
@QQQQcon Thank you very much. I also thought it could be a good all-purpose lens. I can add other lens in future. Had spent lot of time reading about d7000, d300s and d90. But looks like a hobbyist like me, I may not fully utilized the features of d7000 or d300s, so it will be a wastage. spending on lens would be more useful for me.
how do u like it? im planninh on gettin one but i hurd when u put it on a tripod and record n dont touch it.. when it comes to you bringing things close to the lense it wont focus.. please help me... any advice? thanks for the this vid.. would you be able to do a test video of you having the cam just standing recording && u place object closer && at different distances? espesh rly close? thanks so much i would really appreciate it ^_^
@MisssLadyRose Well, I think different lenses have different maximum focusing distance, so If you focus on a subject with a distance out of the maximum range that the lens can focus then it won't focus. You can look at the lens specification to see the focusing distance of the lens can focus. And there are certain lenses like Micro lens can allow you tow focus very up close to your subject.
The second version still has lense creep. It really isnt much of an improvement. I tried it and own the first generation lense and feel no major differences.
Q I need help. Looking for a little advise...I'm a beginner and have saved to make one purchase that will have to last for some time! Debating between D5000 w/ 18-200 II or D90 w/ 55-200. Taking shots of my kids playing sports and the like. Thanks in advance for the help!
Really you should wait until you've really tested the lenses, cameras yourself. My 18-200vr doesn't creep and I doubt the new coating will make much difference. A decent filter might make more difference. Nikon are stuck to making fairly minor upgrades, they have to rely on Sony coming up with better CMOS sensors.
I beg to difer. Nikon DOES NOT need to wait for Sony, or any other rival companies to come up with better quality products, and that includes CMOS sensors.
alexlkc99, whose sensors does Nikon use?????????? Sony's! Canon and Nikon both rely on Sony making new cmos sensors. These big camera names buy sony's sensors and tweak the sensor to improve various characteristics, such as high iso noise reduction.
You think Nikon and Canon make their own cmos sensors?
Your so lucky to have what you have. I'm 14 and really into photography, I have my own website and everything. I wish I could be like you. Great videos.
Enjoy your videos. Is there a trick with keeping up with new lenses? Man, they are expensive. Are you able to buy them with the proceeds from photo sales...or is there a secret place to get them cheap?
I am able to buy most of my lenses because I have a normal job. I dont make nearly enough from my picture sales. I make maybe 500 dollars a year off my photos. There is no secret place to buy cheaper lenses.

@amautars It is a good lens to start with. You might also consider the 28-300mm lens but it is a lot larger and more expensive.

I wish they would make a 18-200 with a f/2.8 but i think its physically impossible.
panzarw 11 months ago
@panzarw Nope it isn't physically impossible...but it would be FREAKING big. Heavy, big and with huge front element...

who cares if nikon and canon bought sony's technology.. at least they know how to innovate it..
gatdulah 1 year ago
Well VR is made in Japan, and VR II in Thailand. I have the VR and will never upgrade to VR II, who cares about creeping.
Vamp1963 1 year ago
@Vamp1963 that is not a good reason not to upgraded to VR2. VR2 is definitely better

18-200mm VR II has the same lens creep problem. The lack works only at 18mm which is pretty useless. I am not sure why Nikon done it that way.

18-200 is the best super zoom for DX format.
I m thinking of getting the new 18-200 VR2 with D90.
It falls a bit outside my budget but i m gonna save more.
Thanks for the vid

hi collin..
thanks for the video.. just a question..
if i were to choose between 18-105VR nikon or 18-200Tamron (both fall under same price tag) to go with my D90.
i only have two problems i suspect from Tamron. it isnt VR & i am afraid its autofocus wud be VERY slow.. what do you have say about it??
do u think smartly selecting ISO cud just do as good as VR wud?? or VR is unavoidable nowadays?
Thanks in advance..
mani8313 2 years ago
VR is a great feture to have. I dont know anything about the tamron but I am sure it is not up to nikons standards. I would get the nikon.
QQQQcon 2 years ago
@mani8313 The VR to me is a must-have. I've also read the Tamron 18-200mm lens will have autofocusing problems because of the higher f stop.
JC040696 1 year ago
@mani8313 Tamron's code for VR is VC so look for a lens with that.

The new 18-200 is the dumbest thing Nikon has done. The MTFs appear to be identical and my 18-200 doesn't creep anyway.
