I agree with Michael Stipe that it's overflowing with great songs, but should've been recorded differently and been a little shorter. I think the overproduction of "Why Not Smile" might be the biggest mistake they've ever made on an album... the "Oxford American" version is one of the most gorgeous things they've ever done.

UP is my third favorite R.E.M. album behind New Adventures and Automatic.
I don't see how you can say it's bad...it's a little serious but I actually like that!
