Thank you so much for posting this!!! Today's my daughter's birthday and thanks to you I get to share Blinky's birthday song with her. Wow!! This sure brings back fond memories. Did you watch him on the weekends? I think I remember him being on during weekdays early in the morning.
Hey, thanks for posting this! I live in Colorado, and for a while, back in the 70's, my mother worked at Channel 2 - our local WGN station. Just last KRMA PBS station Channel 6 was running the Pioneers of TV and the history of local kids shows - made me think of Blinky. My mom always said he was a really nice guy - on and off camera.
I blew my chance to be there, I watched Blinky mostly for Tom & Jerry cartoons but for some reason I was too scared to go and support the birthday appearance of a little girl I knew.
Russell "Blinky" Scott is now retired and living in Denver. He holds the record for the longest career of a children's television host in the United States and he's second in the world according to Guinness.
You can keep up with Blinky by joining his Facebook fan club "Blinky the Clown"
My younger brother was on that show in the 60's. My mother and her friend were at the station that day. Both women were very nice looking. My mother tells me ol' Blinkster saunters up to 'em and invites them both over to his crib for cocktails. I'm not making this up.
This is great. It's been 35 years since I last saw Blinky's Fun Club, and it was wonderful to have a video reference to show my Connecticut wife what I was referring to when I'll on occasion say in a gravely voice: "And please stay outta the streets!"
My younger sisters loved Blinky. When my family first moved to Colorado in 1961 (I was five), Ed Scott had a TV Show called "Sheriff Scotty." That was my favorite. Ed also owned KLAK Radio and was later on a congressman. To me, he was always Sheriff Scotty. Blinky was great in his own right. I loved his puppet dog, Barney wasn't it?
I spoke with Blinky (Russell) yesterday. He is okay. He is in his 80's now. Some of you may know he had an antique store in Denver for many years, the store has closed and Blinky has retired. He is still as charming as ever. I was not on his show but watched it when I was litte. We became friends when I was an adult and speak often.
No one will see the likes of Blinky, or any other local clown show, anymore. It seems the TV stations don't care about local stuff anymore. It's cheaper, and don't even mention the FCC regs, to buy national broadcast stuff. Too bad, too, since the local shows had more flair, more entertainment, and were more fun.
Blinky's Fun Club was taken off the air by Bill Ross, a new general manager at KWGN TV Channel 2 in Denver in 1998. Blinky continued to run his antique shop in Denver until recently when he closed it to retire. You can keep up with him on his Facebook group "Blinky the Clown" It features the latest Blinky news and merchandise.

I'd heard stories about him like that before, and, well, as long as he kept it away from the kids...

Awesome, thanks for this. Always had Blinky and Noel and Andy before school. Remember the early 70's opening with the hands playing the xylophone?
Thanks again!

Aww. I was on the show when I was 5 or 6. Sadly, I have no idea where the tape went... probably taped over by the Power Rangers or something. ;)
