  • im starting to understand 16th note triplets with one foot, i've just started to get to the point where i can play it and make it work.

im sure some crazy metal drummers can DO this... maybe even 32nd notes... but make it sound this good? hell no

  • pimpin tourcouse drum kit lol

  • So is he doing triplets with the pedal, or a triplet between the bass and snare?

  • @mrTooKanSam triple is in the beat, eighth note triplets before the snare hit. right hand, right foot, right foot

  • @sampats89 ohhhh thanks ma boi :)

  • Hey , Full Force get busy one time !

  • @joeydrummer19 right

  • Is this the same thing tony royster jr often uses? :D

  • @123LarsUlrich yea tony learnt how to play from dennis

  • dude is amazing lives right down the street from me in maryland and i see him just hanging at the local bar quite alot i feel lucky to have the pleasure of talking to him when i see him

  • he should have replaced john bonham

  • My first thought: "These arnt triplets" "oh wait there they are!"

  • needs a double kick

  • @YamaMonkeyRecords Obviously he doesn't need a double bass cause he's more skilled with one than a lot of people are with two

  • @coloradoboarder95 More adept with one than a lot of people are with two.

He is more skilled with both.

  • the triplett is always a shit trick magic trick- use it to impress

  • this is the youngest I've ever seen this guy lol

  • He always has this look like "im not even trying". He is my favorite for sure.

  • lol he named like 50 "one of my Favorites"

  • 2:33 - 2:40

    that is just pornography

  • Chambers was not the funkiest drummer, but mad skills. Too chop jock for me as most endorsed musicians seem to be.

  • where did dennis hear it first??? can somebody spell that name?

  • @kokrako Tiki Fulwood from funkadelic

  • great drums artist

  • animalejo de diossssss!!!!!

  • 'which he demonstrated some things like this'.....UUUGH so sik so funky

  • Why is everyone calling this a triplet bass drum beat...............it's doubles................he does not do three's...it's doubles...or a slide.

  • @mikeybbdrummin Can't you hear the triplets? Eg. at 1:03 He is usually playing the 2nd and 3rd triplet on the kick. Just because he doesn't do ALL 3 triplets on the kick doesn't stop it from being a triplet beat using the kick.

  • @samuelb87 .....................He is describing Bohnams bet as well......They are not triplets...Period!!........it's only a triplet if you count the hi-hat..........but the bass drum plays ONLY two beats.

  • @mikeybbdrummin You're a bit confused with the terminology I think... A triplet refers to the rhythm created when you divide a beat into three equal subdivisions. In the clip he is uses triplet semi-quavers (sixteenth notes). It really doesn't matter whether all three of the triplets are played on the bass drum on not. No one said that he was. But you can't say "it isn't a triplet bass drum beat." Rhythmically, he is playing triplet semiquavers (yes only 2)... on the bass drum. End of story.

  • @samuelb87 .......I get how its played........I get it's a triplet WITH the hi-hat......I guess i would never word it that way........I assumed it was going to be 3 bass drum beats.

  • quarter note triplets, half note triplets, 8th triplet, 16, 8,32, sixteenth note triplets, are just values not the number of notes you have to play.

  • @juanbarros88 ....Again.....I am not concerned how you write it or count it..the description to me is making an emphasis on "triplet bass"...why is it not just call a triplet groove??....Anyway........it's a double on the bass.....a slide....however you want to call it....It's cool.......but not hard.....That is all!

  • @mikeybbdrummin the thing is that you don't know what a triplet is. they are 16th note triplets. maybe he not playing the value exactly, but they are triplets. I doubt he's not playing the exact value. there a part where he might be using doubles, but there are triplts in the bass

  • @juanbarros88 ............however you want to look at, w/e..............if there was a groove w/two hi-hat beats and one bass drum would you call it a triplet hi-hat groove.................and if you listen to Dennis at one point he calls a "triplet configuration".............so w/e.............if you want to think I dont know what a triplet is....good for you.........you can bet I wont lose sleep over it.

  • a triplet note can be silenced(rest), triplet rest. 1 of the three can be a rest or even 2 of the 3 can be rests. if u just play only one of the three notes, it's still triplet, not a oneuplet. u can 'complete' the triplet w the hi hat or any part. but for the bass drum part u notate the triplet with a triplet rest and two eight note triplet under the same --3--. still triplet. dont have to play all the three of them. same with 16th notes, u dont have to play all 16 of them, still 16th

  • I just think it's amazing that Dennis can sit back and talk about all these people that he completely looks up to and admires, whilst we all idolise him. Always looking for ways to improve oneself.

  • I'm glad he mentioned Gary Husband. I first heard him on Allan Holdsworth's album, "Metal Fatigue" & that guy will make u think about the drumset in a whole new way. He does a great solo on a tune called, "The Un-Merry Go Round." I really hope I got that right. Thanks for mentioning Gary, Dennis.

  • are those hats 12" or 13"?

  • @bsm6776 hihats are 14"

  • @bsm6776 they are 13" not 14 dennis chambers always plays with 13's

  • Sounds like a wide open bass drum with a white skin? Sounds seriously good on this vid.

  • I have no idea why this clip reminds me of the Forest Gump line "You ain't got no legs, Lieutenant Dan !"

  • Q: How deep in the pocket is this groove?

    A: What's THIS... a Chinaman's balls...?

  • Going to be on Dave Letterman tonight. Part of Drum Solo week.

  • I didnt know dough boy could jam like that hahaha!!!! Dennis rocks!!!

  • ice cube plays sum mean drums mane.

  • The hi hat note is the first note of the triplet grouping, followed by the two kicks. So, yes, it's a triplet groove. Hihat-kick-kick.

  • the look at 2:38 just made this video twice as good... and it was already amazing before

  • yeah, joey baron?

with this approach differences. i begin to "discover" it in playing right now (not a bit too soon ;)). usually, you can clearly hear if a drummer takes a melodical approach to his parts or his focus is on building a solid framework. the phrasing, flow, articulation - all seems different.

some things might come natural in playing. imho, baron is totally melodical player, and chambers very, very rhytmical let's say.

i admire even the attempts to blend those two attitudes.

  • This video must have been recorded before cymbals had any sustain at all....lol

  • AWESOME! He's one of the greatest drummers of all time!

  • HOW THE FUCK COULD YOU DISLIKE THIS

  • He has hair???

  • 2 dumbasses do no like this? I can't understand why is this...

  • All of these patterns are not true triplets. it's more a 2-beat kick then snare to complete the triplet. There's only one authentic triplet in this at 2:38, and it is bad mutha fucka!!!!

  • Hey i have this dvd haha

  • Does he seriously have a pocket with about 10 - 15 pairs of sticks for one session???

  • the hat makes his whole outfit

  • don't get me wrong chambers is one of my favorites drummer but that is so easy!! that is the basic double pedal in triplets in a single pedal anyone can do that!!

  • @picture003 its not the difficulty of the beat its the sound that he gets and that everything is in the pocket

  • @picture003 Know exactly what you mean, but back then it was seen as something. Kinda like finger-tapping on a guitar when Van Halen used it on Eruption

  • @picture003 -yeah but what about at 2:38.

  • @picture003 but did you do it first?

  • Young Dennis...what a great clip. He mentions his favorites, well, this guy is one of my favorites, and all the guys he digs are the guys are also my favorites, so I guess it's no surprise that when I first heard him on that Scofield album back in the '80s, my mind was opened to a whole new world of musical genius that combined all my favorites into a new mega-favorite amalgam of doom.

  • skills man !

  • Damn straight ! First heard that triplet thang on Jive Turkey by the Ohio Players ! Too bad all those great black funk players are so underrated !

  • @SlikkTim Jive Turkey was 1974. Good Times Bad Times was 1968 or 69. Not trying to be a d*ck, but is there another earlier track where that triplet lick is played?

  • @bbstopit I guess Elvin Jones was doin it in 59

  • @bbstopit Did you know that Bonzo got the triplet from Carmine appice. Watch the History of Led-Zeppelin on youtube the ending of part 2/6 and the beginning of part 3/6. Carmine didnt realize that he did it on the vanilla fudge album. John told him that he got it from him, but carmine didnt believe until he showed him

  • @SlikkTim Too true. I don't understand why all the crappy club music, garage band stuff. The 70's (best decade for music) wasn't so long ago in the grand scope. In 2011 I can say I've seen every fad and most of them sucked.

  • @TearzGypsy Don't knock the new shit. Great stuff is always made, jus cause you dont feel it means it sucks.

  • Damn! Who died??? So serious...

    Kickass drummer though :-)

  • I love the shirt! lol

  • what technique ia he using?

  • @starwarsfreak1997 i first saw beat this in a book i was reading. If you imagine a triplet as 1 2 3. 1 is a hihat and 2 & 3 are bass drums. Thats the basic idea. Do with it what you will.

  • @Wrathasyth

yea thanks but i want to know like how he gets his triplets on his bass drum like the technique like slide heel toe ect

  • Comment removed

  • @hitmedrums search for "Heel-Toe Technique vs The Slide Bass Drum Techniques (Live Broadcast #2)" Its a video demontrating and comparing both heel toe and slide techniques. Long video but I found it very helpful. Tried posting the direct link but it wouldn't let me. Anyway hope this helps.
