you people u are not the only one with this problem. trust me i have been there done that, i hate my hp laptop it has been curse too me the day i bought it, but on the good side i got mine fixed twice no problem for me free once from hp and then office depot help line they are very nice and helpful. i prefer toshiba over on hp laptop anyday. but my laptop has been shutdown slowly and restarting slowly so i think mine is getting older. it has been 2 yrs since i bought it. my thoughts.
Let tell you this from the tech point of view, ANY brand can have this problem even on high end systems, it is not related to just one brand. You can either buy a machine that works or not, and you will get a few defective machines on between
Back when these things were sold, laptops were not in the lower price points they are currently in. As an owner of one of these, I was perfectly happy with it until the power cord started to wear loose from the motherboard. With the amount of pressure and weight the obnoxiously large power supply puts on it, they should have screwed it into the case or at least used more then 5 drops of solder they did. This and the lines through the screen are 2 defects so bad they should have done a recall.
I am currently using this piece of junk. It's pretty much stationary now, as I removed the battery pack to spare the other hardware from complete misery...
I have the exact same laptop with the exact same problems. The screen started off like yours, now it is completely out and I had to plug it into my monitor to us the laptop. It's a mess.
I've had 2 HP's back to back: nothing but problems. I was considering a Samsung when I read that their customer service is terrible and some guy wrote they wanted $300 to replace a key off his keyboard.
Which is the best laptop for video editing that is not a Mac, please?
I have a HP G62 and i love my laptop, but i do agree that it gets hot very quickly and the fan does become a bit annoying but nothing i hcant deal with
I ve cleaned cooling fan after that my computer start run very smooth and stop over heat ,and also i have replaced my 17"screen,you can find screen for under u$ 80,00 and you can do it yourself. good luck
@Kingcurtisss Problems with 2 HPs here as well. Did you buy your Dell? I read that Inspirions are the worst. In fact, every single laptop brand I google has tons of detractors who warn us not to buy the particular brand. I'm very confused and no idea what to get. HP has good c.s. Idk about the others. My HP did not overheat but mother board problems on all.
maybe not the worst laptop ever, but probably one of the most inconvenient. bad batteries, as well as terrible battery life and overheating make it kind of hard to use as a portable unit. With that said, if you plan to use it as a "desk/Lap-Top", then it works out pretty well. ive had mine since about 2004, and it still works well (never had the verticle line problem though). Just get something to rest you right wrist on otherwise you may burn it after an hour or so of use.
I have one of these, for over 5 years now. The same screen issue happened on mine 11 months after the purchase, and HP replaced it without questions under warranty which didn't expire at that moment yet. Yes, it's loud. I run it without battery (which died long time ago), but it's way too heavy to carry around anyways, I bought it to replace my desktop in the first place. Btw, the battery recall mentioned in the video did not affect this model.

@Bl4zEnitz0 you don't know what your talking about, MacBooks (MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, PowerBooks & iBook, along with any I may have forgot) are different generations & varieties of Apple Macintosh computers. Apple's are a TOTALLY DIFFERENT BALL GAME, before Apple switched to using intel "Core" Series Processors (Starting from the "Core Duo", not the "Core 2 Duo" in about like 2005 I think...), back when it was stuff like Apple G5, G4, G3, Etc...Apple's couldn't even address the same hardware

There are about 100.000 guides on youtube on this.
Mine died of an overheated GPU 1 week out of the 1 year warranty. Paid $2500 for the top of the line version. I'll never buy another HP product again. Thinkpads and Dells are the way to go.
HP is nothing but crapware infested overheating shit. My hp pavilion I am using is not a laptop and runs great, besides the hp shit they load on there.
I love my HP laptop, you obviously had a problem go wrong early on which you refused to address and didn't think to take it to an expert. There's also a thing called a WARRANTY which most smart people buy because technology seems to have problems. All in all you should have bought an extended warranty, especially since the laptop cost you $1600. Think before you buy your next laptop.
I have a HP g62, the quality is outstanding, the only problem I have is that the battery sucks. It is a perfect laptop for media especially watching movies because the screen is HD. Just because they had a handful of models in the past that performed poorly, that doesn't mean that the current new ones are bad.
I wil never buy another HP (F700). HP knows about a problem with the gpu and it is the cause of many problems (No wifi, sometimes black video, no working dvd) . Please be careful and dont buy HP. My wife has a Dell and has more than 5 years without any problem. HP sucks!!
@talzeraviv LOL... the same problem is back and I´m very sure is not a virus...If a virus can do that after changing the hard drive (a new one, never used) and a new operating system (ubuntu 10.10) then we are facing a terrible new generation of virus.
Ah!... HP Compaq F700 if it stinks. And I speak for me.
IN MY OPINION NEVER BUY AN HP, THEY ARE THE SHITIEST COMPUTERS KNOWN TO MAN!!!!!!!! THEY SUCK AT COMBATABILITY AND AND JUST PLAIN FUCK UPS.... my next computer will be a dell or alienware becuase the last dell i had was over 8 YEAH THATS RIGHT 8 YEARS OLD and the only problem i had was not enough space on teh hard drive anymore
Yeah I bought this 1000 dollar HP laptop with a high end graphics card in hopes of playing all these new games. But since it overheats to damn easy, then every time I go to play a game it plays for like 10 minutes and then the laptop shuts down because it is too hot. HP is fucking retarded, I regret buying this so much
1600 for that picece of shit is you souldve gotten a macbook or power mac whaterever they were called in 2005 and how did the fcc allow hp to realease it
Mine doesn't even turn on anymore :( Haha, was a great laptop when it worked, well not that great but for a hand me down sure. I'm dismantling it as a type since I'm bored. -_-
I have the zd8000 and it's still going strong. I clean the vents with compressed air to make sure the cooling fans stay effective.. But this thing is tough I leave it on all night, and during the day play intensive games on it usually stays warm to the touch but the side 2 fans Never turn off =O thats the only annoying thing, but i love this laptop!
Apple replaced my mother board even though It's warranty had expired by a year. they put 900 dollars worth of repairs on it. And I got it back in 5 days. Apple has been the number one customer service company for over a decade now. They even have bootcamp. And their operating system can be booted up on an external hard drive. Also have greener products and continue to develop methods to leave a lower carbon footprint every step of the way.
@roberrules For how much you guys spend on those computers, I sure hope that they have good customer service. They overcharge for everything. Why are you even mentioning bootcamp? Every operating system has a way to partition and install multiple OS's on the hard drive. As for the booting from an external hard drive, the only OS that doesn't allow it is Windows, mostly because it requires faster speeds to run it, speeds not met through a little USB port. Macs are no greener than any other brand.
It seems like 23 people do not own an HP Pavilion zd8000 laptop! There's no other explanation for the negative votes... unless the negative votes are for hp!
Worst product I ever bought with either none or incompetent service even within the warranty period. BEWARE.
I have had the mother board replaced on warranty. I have had 3, yes 3 screens replaced on mine and all this within a 5 month period. Please don't tell me it's my handling of the computer. It's never been dropped and virtually always used at home. You can fry an egg on it it gets so hot. There are either inferior parts within the unit or it's simply a poor model.
i would have to agree i belive HP needs and shoud have a recall on the laptops we have bought with hard earned money and either replace it or give us our money back on the product i have a hp pavillion dv 9000 and not ever a year old the hard drive got the click of death my first and worst laptop EVER i belive somthing should be done about this i mean its 100% not right for them to sell up a pice of shit like that i mean come on..
I used to assemble HP web servers. Very rarely ever had issues with them , got on my bullhorn and told the world about their great engineering and design, those foolish enough to listen to me all got burned, myself included by their high end laptops. In fairness though, I think it had more to do with the nvidia chipsets overheating but HP never stepped up and extended warrentees or what not.
My school laptops were HP and plagued with errors... this is just a testament to the shoddy design that goes into these bricks. I'm not computer expert, and I'll be damned if I know how to fix or diagnose one past common sense, but these things are BUGGED UP THE ASS.
the stripes is caused by bad connection between machine and screen. i have the same problem. but i beated it (i was mad at it, It freezed, screwed up) TARGA Sucks...
I had an HP laptop and the touchpad was too hot to touch. The graphics kept working but I went through 2 batteries before selling it. I now have a Mac ;)
That's the likely result of putting Desktop guts inside a laptop without underclocking. A 3.0 GHz Pentium 4 doesn't exactly run cool, and can affect various components within close proximity, the graphics card being the first to go.
HP has learned it's lesson since then, but the lack of customer service is still bothersome.
I have a hp zd8205us and my video card went out twice on it in 5 years... The first time after three years and i had insurance on it still and also the screen with the vertical lines 2 months later all taken care of with insurance... Now the video card went out again and no more insurance... Now I have a Sony and it's amazing... No more HP for me...
HP isn't necessarily a bad brand. Customer service, I agree, sucks. However, for the price, usually they are pretty well made. Over time, every laptop will begin to have problems. Especially if you carry it around a lot and it is handled roughly. I had a Toshiba that, after having books and such pushing against the backside of the screen, it went bad like yours. Just because this computer had defective batteries, doesn't mean that HP is a bad brand. Every company has its bad models.
@hopperms Uhhh... I completely agree and understand your logic, but fuck you haha. This is different. HP sucks donkey balls and it sounds like you haven't even owned one before or you work for them or know someone that works there.
@Onamonapiafied I have actually owned HP computers. As a matter of fact, I am using one right now and have owned several HP computers in the past. I do not work for HP and have never worked for them, nor have I ever known anyone that has worked for them. I am not saying that it is the greatest brand in the world. I am just saying that for the money, it is decent quality. Every company has its bad models and HP certainly is no exception.
I have this laptop and I confirm it is a horror. The battery does not charge more (overheating?), ventilation is minimal, the computer stopped several times because of overheating. The DVD player opens when he wants to take the air. I can not even play correctly even in low.
The only positive? I make huge savings on heating, thank you HP.
I have this laptop (zd8000) and I have to say its a pretty awesome laptop. It can still play most of today's games with ease. Mine's also a lot quieter and I have it on a cooling base to help.. The part where your hand rests does get really hot thought because thats where the battery is.
I have had my HP for 3 months now, DV9000 and my battery has been recalled, im a mobile DJ and my audio hardware crackles and pops constantly in Windows 7 basic mode (needed to run programmes smoothly) and the charger has 'bad earth' (high pitched static buzzing that comes through speakers when amplified) the only thing i like is the speed and graphics, the solution? Next one will be an ACER or other brand, had 2 acers and both work like gems, HP? Like Mercedes. You pay for the badge NOT quality
o even thought this is like 2 year ago, its either your graphic card is failing, monitor, and or the climate of your house.. i have a desktop that does that but its even more crazy and it cause of my graphic card.. and my monitor i use now does something like this but only when its cold after 10 sec its normal, my monitor is like 7 years old but still kick ass..
i got a question i have a hp zd 8000 and i need to replace my hd.. i bought a wrong one and i dont know which one i need, also a cable to connect the laptop hd to my desktop.. please respond asap.

i bought the same laptop end 2005 i paid (london) £1287 it was the most expensive one 'i had exactly the same problems OVERWORKING VENTILATION FANS -OVERHEAT BATTERY -
ANYWAY DON'T BUY HP PLEASE IT WAS THE BIGGEST MISTAKE I'VE EVER DONE .
BIG WASTE OF MONEY £1287 IN 2005 FROM COMET UK LONDON
@Ryuuken24 It's sadly an issue that could only be fixed by the manufacturer at a high cost unless they do a recall. HP usually needs to be forced & even then rarely does more then a patchwork fix. Biggest issues are poor chassis design leaving too little room for heat management. Combined w/ using solder w/ too low a melting temp = frying chips, hardware melting off the mainboard & metal components like hinges snapping early. You can take care & maintain, but not fix.
FYI, the AC adapter for the ZD8000 was originally the incorrect voltage. Due to AC bricks only converting 80% at the best, the bricks were below spec and also posed a fire risk. At the end of 2005 HP started shipping the correct voltage AC bricks. So for those looking to replace a burned out AC adapter brick, you can call and put up a stink about the fire risk it posed also. (Make sure they send you the brick AND the outlet cord.) Improper AC adapters may have cause these problems also.
I had a hp dv2000 , worked fine for abit but then the screen started to be unreliable followed by a complete motherboard failure. Now I go for Toshiba , miles more reliable although it produces quite alot of heat .
there so good i have just brought a 3rd, saves lugging 1 around, the only repair i have ever done is replace 1 screen.....after 5 years!!!!!!!!!! if i could buy another 1 new i would.
@EXOinsider6 No, Dell is certainly better then HP for hardware issues but I wouldn't make it my next choice. If you want a consumer PC, the best for a decent cost is Asus - do not confuse w/ Acer. Samsung is starting to move up fast too. I'd put Dell right after them, and on about the same level as Sony and Toshiba. But if you have $ to blow, & want an amazing & well-built system, get Eurocom, Xoticpc & then Alienware (aka Dell's gamer line) in that order.
HP pavilion is a complete piece of crap. first machine fried vidio chip. second machine would not even start up out of box. Third keeps crashing. Stay away unless you want to waste your money!
The creator of this video says do NOT buy HP laptops, which implys that he means ALL HP laptops. Well not all of them are bad. Right now I'm using an HP g42t laptop, and it works perfectly fine. Nothing wrong with it. Obviously though there is something wrong with that one. What I'm trying to say is not all HP products are bad. Probably just that one particular model. If anyone disagrees with me, kindly respond to this comment. Thank you.
@recordnerd21 I have to say I disagree. Not sure if I'm looking for a discussion though, I just feel so strongly I had to speak up. HP used to be an excellent brand, I was a loyal customer for more than 10 years. I work closely with IS developers and am no slouch on hardware, systems and some low-level scripting myself, as a hobby. Our company has an agreement w/ HP for all business workstations and developer laptops. Across the board, they're terrible even on that level now.
@recordnerd21 HP suffers from incredibly poor system design, and hardware failures stemming from over-heating. This user is not wrong. There are class-action lawsuits against HP for refusing to acknowledge and repair issues in recalls. This is for many, many lines over the last 4 years. Rather than step up, the problems have gotten worse with time. Some of it may be poor manufacturing, outsourced to countries with less oversight, and less $ spent on testing for faults.
@recordnerd21 This is part of thy way HP can offer such good prices. Most major Computer mags and forums list HP among the worst now, and most repair shops will tell you they're one of the brands they see in the most. They're just not what they once were and I will never buy another. Sad to say & sad to see a once good brand go this way.
@SisterOfKarn Yeah, Fujitsu did the same...but earlier than HP...I have HP Pavilion DV6 and my GOSH...when I open a photoshop or even GIMP, temperature rose from 40 degrees to 80 or even 100 degrees...
@FinlandApollo =) My last HP was a dv9K series w/ AMD chipset. I needed something cheap to lug around when traveling & get to emails & use Office. AMD throws more heat than Intel & many dv series w/ the Intel chipset were melting down in their chasis... I babied it and in 4+ years, it still runs nicely but I've replaced hinges twice, & the wireless & video card & have re-cabled once. I wish you could build your own lappy like you can a desktop. Next time I can I'm getting a Eurocom. =)
@FinlandApollo Actually, if u have experience building/fixing desktops, laptops aren't that difficult. =) Just take careful note of cable & wire layouts is all. I won't touch a Mac tho - those are like stuffing 100 clowns in a Prius - don't get 'em back in exactly the same way, won't work at all. Then you're paying Apple big $ for a fix, assuming they will once they know you've opened it... For this reason I will always love PCs best. ^_^
you people u are not the only one with this problem. trust me i have been there done that, i hate my hp laptop it has been curse too me the day i bought it, but on the good side i got mine fixed twice no problem for me free once from hp and then office depot help line they are very nice and helpful. i prefer toshiba over on hp laptop anyday. but my laptop has been shutdown slowly and restarting slowly so i think mine is getting older. it has been 2 yrs since i bought it. my thoughts.

HP sucks!!

but after the long year my system started to cracsh for one reason:a virus.
i fixed the computer by myself and its running very fast although it has only 2gb of ram!!!!!
games are fast and my computer supports 3D vision
all of those features are from my computer that is called:HP-Pavilition a6643

@talzeraviv LOL... the same problem is back and I´m very sure is not a virus...If a virus can do that after changing the hard drive (a new one, never used) and a new operating system (ubuntu 10.10) then we are facing a terrible new generation of virus.
Ah!... HP Compaq F700 if it stinks. And I speak for me.

Apple replaced my mother board even though It's warranty had expired by a year. they put 900 dollars worth of repairs on it. And I got it back in 5 days. Apple has been the number one customer service company for over a decade now. They even have bootcamp. And their operating system can be booted up on an external hard drive. Also have greener products and continue to develop methods to leave a lower carbon footprint every step of the way.
roberrules 9 months ago
@roberrules For how much you guys spend on those computers, I sure hope that they have good customer service. They overcharge for everything. Why are you even mentioning bootcamp? Every operating system has a way to partition and install multiple OS's on the hard drive. As for the booting from an external hard drive, the only OS that doesn't allow it is Windows, mostly because it requires faster speeds to run it, speeds not met through a little USB port. Macs are no greener than any other brand.

You got an HP laptop for much cheaper than other brands like Apple.
You're just going to have to deal with the consequences of the price differences.
Every computer has it's problems, and I suggest you just get a different computer.
the ZD800's are infamous for having screen problems, you should do research before you purchase a laptop with you're "hard earned money"

I used to assemble HP web servers. Very rarely ever had issues with them , got on my bullhorn and told the world about their great engineering and design, those foolish enough to listen to me all got burned, myself included by their high end laptops. In fairness though, I think it had more to do with the nvidia chipsets overheating but HP never stepped up and extended warrentees or what not.
superflysoulbrother 10 months ago
My school laptops were HP and plagued with errors... this is just a testament to the shoddy design that goes into these bricks. I'm not computer expert, and I'll be damned if I know how to fix or diagnose one past common sense, but these things are BUGGED UP THE ASS.

I had an HP laptop and the touchpad was too hot to touch. The graphics kept working but I went through 2 batteries before selling it. I now have a Mac ;)
2b3the1 10 months ago
That's the likely result of putting Desktop guts inside a laptop without underclocking. A 3.0 GHz Pentium 4 doesn't exactly run cool, and can affect various components within close proximity, the graphics card being the first to go.
HP has learned it's lesson since then, but the lack of customer service is still bothersome.

jazzmaster700 11 months ago
HP isn't necessarily a bad brand. Customer service, I agree, sucks. However, for the price, usually they are pretty well made. Over time, every laptop will begin to have problems. Especially if you carry it around a lot and it is handled roughly. I had a Toshiba that, after having books and such pushing against the backside of the screen, it went bad like yours. Just because this computer had defective batteries, doesn't mean that HP is a bad brand. Every company has its bad models.
hopperms 11 months ago
@hopperms Uhhh... I completely agree and understand your logic, but fuck you haha. This is different. HP sucks donkey balls and it sounds like you haven't even owned one before or you work for them or know someone that works there.
Onamonapiafied 8 months ago

Hycarius 11 months ago
I have this laptop (zd8000) and I have to say its a pretty awesome laptop. It can still play most of today's games with ease. Mine's also a lot quieter and I have it on a cooling base to help.. The part where your hand rests does get really hot thought because thats where the battery is.

Did you fix the issue, or did you buy a new one ?
Ryuuken24 1 year ago
@Ryuuken24 It's sadly an issue that could only be fixed by the manufacturer at a high cost unless they do a recall. HP usually needs to be forced & even then rarely does more then a patchwork fix. Biggest issues are poor chassis design leaving too little room for heat management. Combined w/ using solder w/ too low a melting temp = frying chips, hardware melting off the mainboard & metal components like hinges snapping early. You can take care & maintain, but not fix.
SisterOfKarn 1 year ago
FYI, the AC adapter for the ZD8000 was originally the incorrect voltage. Due to AC bricks only converting 80% at the best, the bricks were below spec and also posed a fire risk. At the end of 2005 HP started shipping the correct voltage AC bricks. So for those looking to replace a burned out AC adapter brick, you can call and put up a stink about the fire risk it posed also. (Make sure they send you the brick AND the outlet cord.) Improper AC adapters may have cause these problems also.

Dell for laptops and hp for computer?
EXOinsider6 1 year ago
@EXOinsider6 No, Dell is certainly better then HP for hardware issues but I wouldn't make it my next choice. If you want a consumer PC, the best for a decent cost is Asus - do not confuse w/ Acer. Samsung is starting to move up fast too. I'd put Dell right after them, and on about the same level as Sony and Toshiba. But if you have $ to blow, & want an amazing & well-built system, get Eurocom, Xoticpc & then Alienware (aka Dell's gamer line) in that order.

Thank you.
recordnerd21 1 year ago
@recordnerd21 I have to say I disagree. Not sure if I'm looking for a discussion though, I just feel so strongly I had to speak up. HP used to be an excellent brand, I was a loyal customer for more than 10 years. I work closely with IS developers and am no slouch on hardware, systems and some low-level scripting myself, as a hobby. Our company has an agreement w/ HP for all business workstations and developer laptops. Across the board, they're terrible even on that level now.
SisterOfKarn 1 year ago
@recordnerd21 HP suffers from incredibly poor system design, and hardware failures stemming from over-heating. This user is not wrong. There are class-action lawsuits against HP for refusing to acknowledge and repair issues in recalls. This is for many, many lines over the last 4 years. Rather than step up, the problems have gotten worse with time. Some of it may be poor manufacturing, outsourced to countries with less oversight, and less $ spent on testing for faults.
SisterOfKarn 1 year ago
@recordnerd21 This is part of thy way HP can offer such good prices. Most major Computer mags and forums list HP among the worst now, and most repair shops will tell you they're one of the brands they see in the most. They're just not what they once were and I will never buy another. Sad to say & sad to see a once good brand go this way.
SisterOfKarn 1 year ago
@SisterOfKarn Yeah, Fujitsu did the same...but earlier than HP...I have HP Pavilion DV6 and my GOSH...when I open a photoshop or even GIMP, temperature rose from 40 degrees to 80 or even 100 degrees...
FinlandApollo 1 year ago
@FinlandApollo =) My last HP was a dv9K series w/ AMD chipset. I needed something cheap to lug around when traveling & get to emails & use Office. AMD throws more heat than Intel & many dv series w/ the Intel chipset were melting down in their chasis... I babied it and in 4+ years, it still runs nicely but I've replaced hinges twice, & the wireless & video card & have re-cabled once. I wish you could build your own lappy like you can a desktop. Next time I can I'm getting a Eurocom. =)
SisterOfKarn 1 year ago
@SisterOfKarn I wish I could do a own laptop :P
FinlandApollo 1 year ago
@FinlandApollo Actually, if u have experience building/fixing desktops, laptops aren't that difficult. =) Just take careful note of cable & wire layouts is all. I won't touch a Mac tho - those are like stuffing 100 clowns in a Prius - don't get 'em back in exactly the same way, won't work at all. Then you're paying Apple big $ for a fix, assuming they will once they know you've opened it... For this reason I will always love PCs best. ^_^
