Instead of tossing AR15 models to the troops we need to convert old M14s into the M14EBR rifle, which does as much as (if not more) than an M4A1 and has the range and effectiveness beyond that of any weapon of 5.56 calibre. Considering the fact that allmost 35% of all firefights are beyond your average M4A1s range, the M14 would not only work but would accel. The BS about the M14 is too heavy and bulky and such, all made up.

@Nutkicker54 we got an m16 because the m14 was too heavy for running around with, plus the m16 is lighter, has a better rate of fire,and is overall easier to control when it is in 3 round bursts (a2 and a4) and fully automatic (a1 and a3)

@thedrummiester The m14 rifles are being used in afghanistan and iraq. Old vietnam m14 where dusted and put into the hands of american marksmans. If you search it up, you will see american soilders using both the old version of the m14 (wood one) and the Synthetic version (One thats made with a plastic like material)

He said they're not the standard infantry rifles they used to be because the M16 and M4 are more controllable in fully automatic fire then the M14, making them better for urban and close quarters combat.

This gun is used in Afghanistan, the EBR variant is anyway. I've seen the US 101st airborne each squad has its own squad designated marksman or something like that, for those targets that cannot be hit by the m4's.

They aren't used as sniper rifles they're used as designated marksman rifles, which basically fills the gap between sniper rifles and assault rifles since they have more range than an assault rifle but less range than a sniper rifle. They are used to engage enemies 100-500 meters away (can't recall the distance correctly) but they can also be used as a support weapon when needed and the people trained to use them are usually expert marksman within a squad and they are NOT trained to be snipers
Depends where you are in the states. Here in Illinois they would crucify you for owning an auto. And for the rest of the nation, $30 for 20 rounds of .308 is far more than oppressive. I think a $200 "stamp" is required to own a full-auto in the states that they have been declared legal (while they were already legal in the first place under the second amendment). Not everybody was given a fully automatic rifle. Only men who could control it were given the key that enabled it to shoot fully automatic. Remember that little aspect.
Were 'capable' of full automatic fire, but you had to have the key. That's what I just said. The key is the removable selector switch that converts the weapon from semi to full.

m14s jam less then most ak-47s no one makes it the ak-47 anymore anyways, most if not all are "AKM" rifles. ak rifles have a problem with extraction on some of the clones witch dose not happen on the m14 rifles based rifles if i rember

@raginroadrunner M-16 is cheaper and easier to maintain. Its also easier to modify. M-14 is still issued to certain marksmen for counter sniper duty.

a better question is why was the m14 phased out after a couple of years? it was to heavy for the jungle, the ammo was overpowered, and alot of the time when you did full auto it would go straight up and be hard to keep on target. i know the m4 is underpowered by so much, but today we arent concerned with killing them as much as scaring the shit out of them. yea the m14 is going to kill it when it hits them, but its not going to have the suppressive power of the m4. i dont like 5.56 either though

@raginroadrunner i think the 6.8 would be perfect for that theater, but its to expensive and hard to change it out for all those troops. i would prefer a m14 over a m4, but the U.S. military is a very complex thing and theres alot of money put into rifles, we cant just switch everything over. and the fucking lobbyists for colt would flip a shit

@thedrummiester The m14 rifles are being used in afghanistan and iraq. Old vietnam m14 where dusted and put into the hands of american marksmans. If you search it up, you will see american soilders using both the old version of the m14 (wood one) and the Synthetic version (One thats made with a plastic like material)

@raginroadrunner I know the Marines mounted a scope on it and are now using it as a designated marksman's rifle. My roommate was one in Iraq. He said they're not the standard infantry rifles they used to be because the M16 and M4 are more controllable in fully automatic fire then the M14, making them better for urban and close quarters combat.

This gun is used in Afghanistan, the EBR variant is anyway. I've seen the US 101st airborne each squad has its own squad designated marksman or something like that, for those targets that cannot be hit by the m4's.

Couple things:
- The 5.56mm is effective up to about 550m. That means that at point fire I can kill a healthy man at 550m.
- I can kill a healthy man at 550m WHILE cutting down the weight, making production cheaper, and training easier.
- I went there about the weapon being heavy. There are reasons the weapon was phased out. You can't just ignore that fact.
- We DO use MODIFIED versions of the M14 in Afghanistan.
- Studies say that since the introduction of the M16, troops are more effective.

They aren't used as sniper rifles they're used as designated marksman rifles, which basically fills the gap between sniper rifles and assault rifles since they have more range than an assault rifle but less range than a sniper rifle. They are used to engage enemies 100-500 meters away (can't recall the distance correctly) but they can also be used as a support weapon when needed and the people trained to use them are usually expert marksman within a squad and they are NOT trained to be snipers

Depends where you are in the states. Here in Illinois they would crucify you for owning an auto. And for the rest of the nation, $30 for 20 rounds of .308 is far more than oppressive. I think a $200 "stamp" is required to own a full-auto in the states that they have been declared legal (while they were already legal in the first place under the second amendment). We live in a police state and as long as we continue to obey their rules and fear consequences, they will continue to strip our rights

Were 'capable' of full automatic fire, but you had to have the key. That's what I just said. The key is the removable selector switch that converts the weapon from semi to full.
