If maybe I saw this episode a few years ago I would think of it as a joke and not that insulting. But as a medical student now in the philippines Im really hurt even if it was just meant for comedic purposes of the show. I was even planning on taking up the USMLE but now im not so sure since that's how americans think of us. I have no problem with us filipinos being made fun of for having dark skin, flat nosed, or even corrupt government, but criticized education is diff.
And for God's sake....an opinion is just an opinion...No one is right or wrong...and the people who over reacted in this are dumb..We should all be matured...

I'm a filipino american, i don't get why filipinos are so mad about this, they seem to forget that americans of every race and origin make fun of each other all the time. We don't mean to be racist, but its a joke. Its part of american culture.
Eventually the association with filipinos and incompetence becomes so widespread and common, it becomes a joke amongst the citizens. It becomes so common, that writers can include this joke in a popular TV series because they know the audience will laugh.
You can buy a passing mark for any diploma in the philippines with money and/or sex. This dilutes certain popular fields such as nursing/medical with lower class and lower quality individuals. These lower class individuals multiply and spread in search for opportunities overseas, unaware that for every job applicant that is found to be incompetent, education/qualifications gained in the philippines declines in value and loses credibility from the perspective of a developed, high standard nation.

There is this case about a hollywood celeb who went for some kind of check up. A filipino doctor was the one who checked up on her. She later found out, that doctor had no degree in the required field she was suppose to be checked upon and that was the reason He failed his task As a doctor.

Sometimes we don't have to be subjective on what others say, but we need to be objective if necessary.
