I remember seeing Ralph Marterie at the Chicago Theater; we were fortunate to have access to an afternoon performance. Later that evening, we saw Peggy Lee at another Night Club.
THIS IS THE SONG WE WOULD ALWAYS PLAY AT THE POOL HALL IN WESTLAND, MICHAGAN. KIND OF WARMED YOU UP FOR A GOOD GAME OF POOL!! SOUNDS PRETTY DARN GOOD TODAY TOO!!
@SWINGTIME35 OUR GANG PLAYED THIS TUNE TOO, OVER AND OVER AT THE POOL HALL ON FORD ROAD CALLED "RAINWATER" IN WHAT I THOUGHT WAS "GARDEN CITY" PERHAPS IT WAS IN WESTLAND, MI? THE SONG SEEMED TO MAKE A BETTER POOL PLAYER WHEN EVER IT WAS PLAYING.
there are so many versions of this song that all sound so very different from each other! this one is new to me and has to be the fastest one i've heard so far. was looking to see if anyone posted his version of skokian yet.
Do you have a song Ralph Marterie did that sounds like Barcarolle theTales of Hoffman. He did this as a trumpet solo with his Marlboro Men Orchestra. Ive lost or misplaced my album. The cover had a trumpet and rose on it .. Thanks
@panamjack yes, it's called "Dancing Trumpet" (arranged by Ralph Martierie). In fact, I have a CD called "The Very Best of Ralph Marterie (The Mercury Masters)".
@alan1963 Thanks alan for the reply. I found my album finally. but need to convert it to a cd. Ill also look for the cd. I always liked that song by Ralph and his orchestra.
He stole the arrangement note-for-note from the Esquire Boys recording (fronted by Danny Cedrone, who later did session work with Bill Haley, including Rock Around the Clock).
Haven't heard this song in years. my father played it over and over on his "new" general electric 15" black and white tv/radio/phono combination. It's so nice to hear it again.
