Opening up the device, removing the screen cables (#1, #2, and #3), the re-attaching them, making sure the were fully-seated and well-connected, then re-assembling seemed to fix my problem. It's working just find again now.

2. Hold the Home button and the Power button at the same time for 10 seconds.
3. After exactly 10 seconds, release the Power button but keep holding the Home button for 10 seconds or until iTunes pops up a message saying that it has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. At this point, click OK, then click "Restore" in iTunes.
Scratch that. The DFU thing worked. Put your device into DFU mode (there are plenty of videos telling how to do so). Restore it from there. It worked for me because I was freaking out.

Hey this is because u have jailbroken it and downloaed some bad application...just try to reset it couple of times by pressing the circle botton,volume down botton and power botton together...if that dosen't work just open installer and refresh the sources..do it in cydia also if u have..and the second last solution is to wait for two days switching the it off and reset it again..still dosen't works..DUMP THAT SHIT!!!!

If you meant that the Installer is the reason for the touch screen problem, this is not the case. The problem existed from the moment I took the phone out of it's box.
Meanwhile I managed to get it to the apple store once but they only installed the firmware again which solved nothing.
Hellow i have an update problem... I saw that I had 3 updates to do at the app store. But when I would update it, I've got to enter my password, and yes it's the right word, but then they say : 'You can download this item when you log in at the itunes store on your computer'. I've noticed that if you have tried updating it to another firwire addition like 3.0 the touch screen will not work at all. or if you have tried to jailbreak or add a new app it will freeze it and damage the touch screen mod. If you did either of these things that could be a reason. But I believe that the sensor in it itself has either gone bad or is dissconnected. Try taking it to the apple store if they wont help. Just take it appart and inspect it for loose wire and such..

I had the same error. Possible programs that caused it for me was pockettouch and customise combined. There was another one as well but anything that I suspected to cause the problem I deleted. I kept restarting my iphone and finally, I plugged it into my computer and it went back to working normally. Then I quickly downloaded respring. It worked for me.
I found a few other people in the net, who had the same problem and their only solution was to bring it back to the store. I also tried reinstalling several times but with no success. So I also will bring it back to the store, which is not that easy, because the next US Apple store is one ocean away.
Sorry to have no better ideas. The only other thing that worked for me was to keep the iPhone fridge-cold, but that is no solution for daily use.

As far as I know, all you can do in this case is to have it repaired/replaced by Apple. Because it is a hardware defect (touch screen). At least that is the only solution I found for that while researching the Internet regarding my problem.
make sure is charge with the usb on the computer not the dock.. it has charge with high voltage than rest it by pressing the home screen and power button together than it should solve the problem!
Nope, didn't work. The only thing, that works is to put it in the fridge and keep it there. Because as long as it its cold, the touch screen works. Unfortunately, I hurt my back while carrying my fridge around, so I have to stop using this solution :D
Shouldn't be that difficult. I just make sure to have it in a correct status (means no installer on it) and than take it in. Since it hangs within seconds after powering up, it can be quickly demonstrated. Maybe I'll make sure, that the phone is warmed up, because the effect it worse, when the phone gets warm.
Also, I just talked to the apple phone support and we tried to fix it. They where very supportive, but at the end the common conclusion was, it needs repairs.

Yes, this touch screen issue is much more common than the one I have.
I also think, it is a good tool otherwise, But what annoys me most is the policy of apple, on how they sell sit. In my case, I cannot get it fixed, because I bought it in the U.S and am in Austria now. And neither the local Apple resellers nor the local Apple support take it in for repairs.
all my palm type devices with touch screens have developed dead spots. it is annoying! i was hoping that the apple tech would be better than say, a two year or so cycle.
no doubt, yours is defective and should be exchanged, but i bet lots of screen problems are going to develop for these devices as we get into the 2nd year. (maybe not: fingers crossed)

I have that now and it sucks hardcore...the buttons have fallen off and now it doesnt want to hold a charge..i would rather go with the iPhone...

I found a few other people in the net, who had the same problem and their only solution was to bring it back to the store. I also tried reinstalling several times but with no success. So I also will bring it back to the store, which is not that easy, because the next US Apple store is one ocean away.
Sorry to have no better ideas. The only other thing that worked for me was to keep the iPhone fridge-cold, but that is no solution for daily use.

In your video, the touchscreen doesn't seem to work at all. But it still could be the same problem, just more intensive. Anyway, looking at your video didn't bring up any new ideas on how to fix it.

hi tht happened to me did you install dock when you jailbroke it? if so turn it off then on again it should be fine if not then restore it

u dont need to go anywhere just plug ur phone into ur computer and reset everything u froze it from trying to jailbreak it and u fd up ur itouch just reset it , hope u learned a lesson cuz if u brick it ur fucked

Im really havin a problem cuz This is killin my planes i cant get into my phone cuz the lower bottom half does not work! i cant put in my password! what do i do i need to get back in my phone i tried and reset it and that didnt work im tryin the charging on laptop now so we will see and if anyone has any other comments please help! As far as I know, all you can do in this case is to have it repaired/replaced by Apple. Because it is a hardware defect (touch screen). At least that is the only solution I found for that while researching the Internet regarding my problem.

try this:
leave it charge on your computer for 30 mins...
make sure is charge with the usb on the computer not the dock.. it has charge with high voltage than rest it by pressing the home screen and power button together than it should solve the problem!

Nope, didn't work. The only thing, that works is to put it in the fridge and keep it there. Because as long as it its cold, the touch screen works. Unfortunately, I hurt my back while carrying my fridge around, so I have to stop using this solution :D

i didn't had same problem but most of my screen was dead... it won't function!
so leave it charge with on dektop for half hr than after that it works fine!
give this a try!

get rid of installer, it probably gave you the problems in the first place. and if that doesnt work, take it in

Makes no difference. And without activating the phone, the touch screen doesn't work at all.

Shouldn't be that difficult. I just make sure to have it in a correct status (means no installer on it) and than take it in. Since it hangs within seconds after powering up, it can be quickly demonstrated. Maybe I'll make sure, that the phone is warmed up, because the effect it worse, when the phone gets warm.
Also, I just talked to the apple phone support and we tried to fix it. They where very supportive, but at the end the common conclusion was, it needs repairs.

I have the Same problem with my iPhone 16GB. I BOUGHT IT 10 DAYS AGO.But my One has problem with Lower part of the Screen.
Please DO NOT waste Your Money on these phones.They are realy good phones But They Have TO develope the Touch Screen system.I Would NOT RECOMMEND IT TO ANYONE.

Yes, this touch screen issue is much more common than the one I have.
I also think, it is a good tool otherwise, But what annoys me most is the policy of apple, on how they sell sit. In my case, I cannot get it fixed, because I bought it in the U.S and am in Austria now. And neither the local Apple resellers nor the local Apple support take it in for repairs.

all my palm type devices with touch screens have developed dead spots. it is annoying! i was hoping that the apple tech would be better than say, a two year or so cycle.
no doubt, yours is defective and should be exchanged, but i bet lots of screen problems are going to develop for these devices as we get into the 2nd year. (maybe not: fingers crossed)
