now that is fuckin bboying. true art. now adays you see shit like flips and headspins and people taking bboying for granted. i know foundation, and that was true foundation:)
I have a lot of respect and love for Lil G & Cico. I respect their hard work & their achievements. (I have no respect for haters or disrespectful persons.)
I said more than two years ago: "I'd rather watch Ben-J battling than Cico" - it was or is just my personal feeling, no disrespect to Cico. I didn't say he was bad in what he was doing. He is great in powermoves.
More than two years ago, Lil G wasn't really able to dance. He was a good powermover who often crashed. Now he is one of the best
@abarusso@Qurash yeah, nowadays, I say Lil G is a bboy. my old comment is almost 2 years old. He improved a lot since then. ok, with big sponsoring and support by redbull, you should also improve in two years!!
4 months ago (before bc one 2010), I wrote a comment, where I stated that Lil G can dance (also powermoves) to beat. He just has no nice style in his toprock and footwork, but I'm sure he is working on it
He qualified so he pretty much belongs end of story. You guys need to stop dissing this guy. One, I bet he could smoke all of you. Two, you don't know whats going through his head. He was probably hella apprehensive about his moves. He went from obscurity to a competition of huge notoriety. Do you understand how nerve wracking that is. Well, the problem is you don't.
ben-j has a nice flow in his footwork and a special toprock. his style is different to others and at least, he has one. many b-boys haven't, they just dance like robots. and most dance in the same way with almost same steps, moves and freezes.
i think it's really difficult to dance in the "most important" 1on1 battle, when you've never danced before on a bigger competition. probably, he is/was usually safer in his skills and a little bit better. but i don't know
my personal line-up for a top 16 bboy competition would be very different to the bc one's. the organisators don't have a knack for really dope line-ups
how come when someone bashes on Benji, they are accused of bashing all style head bboys. I personally am all about style and hate those purely power bboys, but Benji is just not that good lol. Hes is all choppy and doesnt transition well between his footwork
@smeerios I agree with you. All these people are getting into the same argument about style/footwork vs power. Ben-j's footwork isn't good enough either for redbull. Especially not for a style-head. Yeah, it's better than Cico's, but Cico has powermoves to carry him through. What does Ben-j have? mediocre downrock, a pretty good toprock (but really he's just dancing), and no powermoves. That's just not enough for an international competition.
You can say that, but I know that he's a better bboy than Cico ... I know u will disagree, because u know nuthin. You get amazed by typical powermoves, which Cico does. Doing 15 rounds of 1990's in one round?!? cmon!! wtf is that??
by the way guys i know alot of you will agree that ben-j better leave this competition but this is about finding the best bboys in 16 different countries i think or wateva
Tbh i think its fair tht there are qualifiers for the event. Its like the football world cup, it wudnt be fair if jus the best teams were selected. But at the same time i see y ppl say he shudnt b ther, hes not rili near the same standard as the others.
@DynamiteStylez I agree with your comment, but you don't have the right to define them as bboys because, they only do power. Bboying is something that's in your soul. Its your way of living its not just a hobby. Its about expression, and doing what you love. If they love power moves more power to them. If they can't dance, then they'll let their floor work talk. Also, Cico does try to become a better dancer. As well as improve his toprock.
b-boy originally is "beat boy", that means he is dancing to the beat. today people say "break boy", and it means he is dancing to the break of a song. so, dancing to the music is the basis, the key. i have biggest respect for Cico, but flying is not dancing. meanwhile, lil g can dance to the music, with decent toprocks and footwork and dope powermoves. check out Flying Buddha or Toshiki. Peace!
@DynamiteStylez Bboy is originally Bronx boy.Meaning one who dances the Bronx style, since it originated in the Bronx. Then, break boy and then, beat boy. Break boy is a bit older. Break boy goes back to Kool Herc.Beat boy is some what of a new generation idea. Not that new, since it stems from when bboying made it's comeback in the 80s. It's older than that but, wasn't a popular idea until then. A lot of dance has an acrobatic component. Some who lack the ability to dance with finesse often
@DynamiteStylez master the acrobatic component. As, a compensation for their inability to dance to the beat, or in an eloquent manner. Its your perception that flying isn't dancing. To them, it is. Also, yeah Lil g can, Flying Buddha can be mad repetitive for my taste, and Toshiki is like one of my Idol bboys.
@DynamiteStylez Man, I'm not very keen on powermoves, and all that athletic stuff, but you gotta admit Lil G, has dope style, he's able to hit the beat keeping his power style, follow the song, and that's what bboying is all abt... just sayin'
@DynamiteStylez what?? bboying is expression yourself, not only dance and cico and lil g express how they want, if they like powermoves you must respect it, not critic because they are betters than you and me because they have more passion of bboying than you, me and all the people who critic them. only respect them, they only do which they want to do how they want to do. peacee
@shirk17 bboying is more than a dance, right. But it's not just "expressing yourself". If you express yourself by painting, it's graffiti writing or something like that. If you express yourself by ballet, you dance like a ballerina or ballet dancer. So, to express yourself by bboying you have to observe the rule: dance to the music (not every step or move. if you know how to bboy, you know how and when to break this rule. But at least, you have to dance in a basic bboying way).
@DynamiteStylez hmm its too bad lil g and cico would smoke u in a battle... and if you kept up with lil g, you would see how much better hes gotten. stop pretending like the only thing that matters to you is footwork.
@popnjon please, read all my comments and think before writing such things. I have never said only footwork is important. dancing is important and creativity, energy and flow, footwork and powermoves
@DynamiteStylez You're right...but Lil G has footwork and top rock...he's a complete b boy...but Cico is different...is only powermoves...but i RESPECT all STYLES(but some styles i don't like,but respect) that's it...peace!
@DynamiteStylez uuuhm wasnt bboying a freedom of expression, that you need to tell yourself what bboying is for yourself and not try to convince others to see it the way you see it? thats what crazylegz told me in person so..
@DemianRX no, there is a difference between bboying and freedom of expression. there has to be a connection to its roots. there is a history of this culture. please, more history consciousness and respect for the roots and the pioneers!
@DynamiteStylez uuhm i dont know what the hell that last comment means, because if a PIONEER tells me that bboying is your freedom of expression: what in the world makes you think that im going to say "yeah you are right man". Everyone makes that connection for themselves, not for the world. If you cant deal with that, well tough luck i guess< call up crazylegs and hell tell you the same
@DemianRX 1st it's simple: you can't call gymnastics bboying. there is no chaotic freedom to do that. there is a difference between gymnastics and bboying. 2nd there are other pioneers who have a different opinion than crazy legs. 3rd of course, there is no manual "how to break" and you can develop your own style from the many influences out there. but how can you dance with ignoring the music?! bboy=beat boy!
@DynamiteStylez and how can pioneers overdo Crazylegz's opinion if he's the guy to contact eventually? you know they started it together with Kool Herc in the beginning, that they''re gonna disagree is bullshit. and its NOT BEAT-BOY but BREAKBOY (go watch the freshest kids docu. if you dont believe me) you dance to breaks and you are free to expres yourself the way you want. if you dont like it, thats your oppinion but what entitles YOU to state what a bboy is? nothing, exactly
@DemianRX ask guys like Alien Ness, he and others say beat boy was the original term in the 70s. And in the 80s it was almost fully replaced by break boy. but where is the difference to my argument?! I said: you have to dance to the music/break/beat to be a b-boy. I don't state what a b-boy is, I just can state what is exactly no b-boy. so please don't turn my words around all the time. but maybe you don't want to understand me.
@DynamiteStylez i dont know what you are thinking but you are not even in a position to say what bboying isnt. You gave that position to yourself and to be honest, a lot of people with clear knowledge and inteligence would call you insane. It was called breakboy since day 1, beatboy was used as side-term maybe, im not turning around your replies, im responding to what you are saying and what you are saying is a load of crap. Alien Ness was playing soccer when rocksteady was breaking, little info
@BboyRandii hes not a good bboy, i have respect for him though. (stylehead is sortof a stupid term) every bboy requires solid foundational elements (footwork, toprock, freezes, musicality, etc) as represented by that term. so it should just be reffered to as a proper bboy. Ben-J has balls I give him that, its just that in contrast to some of the real great bboys out there he doesnt measure up... (and I am NOT talking about garbage like Cico LOL)
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
YO, chill out boys and girls... Ben-J got in as a wildcard, meaning pretty much that he competed in his own region's redbull pre-lims, obviously lost, then somehow got chosen as the wildcard... It could have been ANYONE, trust me, we all know he didn't get in based on skill lmao
i agree he has decent footwork and toprock and this was a nice experience for the kid. he learn from the best (lilou) how to please the crowd and what to do in battle. he now knows what to work on to be a bigger force in redbull
lol, probably , ben-j, he has normal footwork and top rock is different (witch is nice) but he doesn't do any footwork that's unique, everyone in red bull bc can usually flip and wat not but they also have better footwork then ben-j. props to him for making it to red bull but HOwd he get invited?
I´m not saying that toprock and footwork isnt a part of bboying - of course it is- im just saying that bboying isnt ONLY that u freak. And this guy didnt deserve to be in the BC one cuz even some of his footwork looks retarded and he barely ever does power.
Doing easy moves on the beat isnt that hard... The challenge is doing difficult moves on the beat.
Ben-j has nothin more than footwork and toprock. That´s not bboying....Plus, he does dance on the beat, but he uses the easiest moves.. like 0:12, what the hell is that? lilou spins in that position...
Ben-J is awesome he has nice smooth footwork he danced on the beat if you get impressed by flips and some power moves thats your opinion but bboying is still a DANCE.
I'll own him 5 votes to 0.......although he's repping Senegal....a place where bboys r a rare find.....gosh wish I was in Red Bull BC One lol.....may b someday I will b lolz......
That basic shit is what makes you a bboy spining on your head and shit like that only pleases the crowd but it's the foundation + personal style that makes you a bboy .
im just saying that thats what we all go thru but thats a tourney winner from style, but when its against powerheads and crowd that dont know shit bout bboying it makes things harder. Me im a hybrid but mostly style and i have the best footwork outta my friends
pretty much why me and my friends are into style than power. One, we're more performance and show than battles, for now at least, so we make routines and shit. My ex crew was a bunch of powerheads, but i left for me and my friends new crew
Wow. It is obvious that he isn't the best, but you people still insist to belittle someone that appreciated his free ride into this competition. He is obviously there to represent his home town. It is all politics about who gets into the competition. The dude is a child of hip hop. Support don't hate. You don't have to like him, but just remember that he does what he does because he loves doing it. Let's grow up. Hip Hop is fun, don't develop a "rapper's" naive mindset.
HAHAH I feel you, I thought this was a Benji clip not a ben-j club. This guy sux, I just came out of retirement after 10 years and I can own this guy.
now that is fuckin bboying. true art. now adays you see shit like flips and headspins and people taking bboying for granted. i know foundation, and that was true foundation:)

2222Lilou2222 3 years ago
i agree he has decent footwork and toprock and this was a nice experience for the kid. he learn from the best (lilou) how to please the crowd and what to do in battle. he now knows what to work on to be a bigger force in redbull
freegil221 3 years ago
BEN J SUCKS PERIOD. why does the comments that say benj is good get thumbs down and the comments that say benj sucks also get thumbs down?
xweeweex96 3 years ago
I would love to cuz id win :D
simthedark 3 years ago
lol, probably , ben-j, he has normal footwork and top rock is different (witch is nice) but he doesn't do any footwork that's unique, everyone in red bull bc can usually flip and wat not but they also have better footwork then ben-j. props to him for making it to red bull but HOwd he get invited?
Adrrn 3 years ago 2
he was a wildcard selection.
Lilou, Twixx and Baek were also wild cards but Baek and Just do it withdrew from injury so they brought Jed and Cico.
dadwolv 3 years ago
if you hate ben-j so much why dont you battle him
asthenia166 3 years ago
I´m not saying that toprock and footwork isnt a part of bboying - of course it is- im just saying that bboying isnt ONLY that u freak. And this guy didnt deserve to be in the BC one cuz even some of his footwork looks retarded and he barely ever does power.
Doing easy moves on the beat isnt that hard... The challenge is doing difficult moves on the beat.
simthedark 3 years ago
Why are you putting my words out of context?
Like I said before he does his moves on beat easy or no.
And I still don't know what you mean with easy moves on beat?
If you mean footwork or toprock steps on beat then that's normal that's bboying its a dance if you are off beating then you are not bboying.
@Addrn of course he has unique footwork gather 30 bboys and watch there footwork and then his you will see that he has a different style.

Ben-j has nothin more than footwork and toprock. That´s not bboying....Plus, he does dance on the beat, but he uses the easiest moves.. like 0:12, what the hell is that? lilou spins in that position...
simthedark 3 years ago
Dude I hope you will never meet Ken Swift or other BBoys that were pioneers of bboying.
Because if you will say Toprock and Footwork is not bboying to them they would just slap you in the face.
And dude ir doesn't matter if he does easy moves on beat or not what matter is that he DOES them on the beat.
If bboying was all about hardness of moves Cico would won because his power tranistions are hard.
And smithdark pls GTFO from Youtube you e-boy k tnx bye.
PhreakStep 3 years ago
you misunderstood what he was saying man. And ben-j is good but way too crap to be competeing at this level.
krouga235 3 years ago 2
Why are you insulting this guy?
Ben-J is awesome he has nice smooth footwork he danced on the beat if you get impressed by flips and some power moves thats your opinion but bboying is still a DANCE.
PhreakStep 3 years ago
yeah... but he is definitely not good enough to compete in any kind of international competition

Ben-J was my fav bboy in the BCone 07. Not who I'd say was the best, but I liked how he performed, his dancing was smooth and clean.

Ben-j is ok in my opinion better then cico or any other powerhead. At least Ben-J respects the foundation and he is doing on the music.
His top rock is good.
@anthonymbone
That basic shit is what makes you a bboy spining on your head and shit like that only pleases the crowd but it's the foundation + personal style that makes you a bboy .
PhreakStep 3 years ago
im just saying that thats what we all go thru but thats a tourney winner from style, but when its against powerheads and crowd that dont know shit bout bboying it makes things harder. Me im a hybrid but mostly style and i have the best footwork outta my friends
anthonymbone 3 years ago
I rather bboy for 1 then doing whack powermoves for 1000 peeps.
PhreakStep 3 years ago
pretty much why me and my friends are into style than power. One, we're more performance and show than battles, for now at least, so we make routines and shit. My ex crew was a bunch of powerheads, but i left for me and my friends new crew
anthonymbone 3 years ago
Well there is nothing wrong with power moves but you have to do them on music and not so often.
I don't like power moves because they are overrated and it is really hard doing it onthe beat.
With footwork you can hut any beat slow or fast with power moves only fast :(
