Man, I thought I had the only one left! I shortened the driveshaft on mine so I wouldn't have to take the overrunning clutch off and on. You need to cover the ends of those two support pipes if you store it outside to keep out water. Two aluminum cans with the ends cut out work for me.
It would work better if you modified it by putting a metal table under the cone and extend it out to where a log could sit on the table. Then you could just push it across the table and let it split. Also, if you stand the log up, it will split and fall off each side and you wouldn't have to use an ax to dislodge it.
Do you know where I can get a u-joint for the PTO driveline on my Bark Buster? I have one that's gone bad (rear u-joint closest to the Bark Buster itself) and don't know what size to get or where to get it from. I don't even have it tore apart yet...Thought maybe you have changed yours before... Thanks!!
@chud327 It doesn't sound like your kids would have any adult supervision, so you shouldn't buy one. Maybe you missed the part about these being dangerous.
@MrLeonard55 I've been thinking about doing this to mine. It would for sure be a lot more safer, BUT... it would take away the "originality" of it... I'm still considering it though.
Has anybody seen the screw type log splitter from the U K with the solid platform under the screw ?Looks to me like it would be 99.9 % safer , and very efficient.
have u tried 2 load this flat end of log on,seems just by looking at the machine dat it mite work better,at 1st view it seemed like de flanges after de auger would lelp wit more uniform splitting, not so sure they are angled out enough on 2bd look, cool vid ,red string very simple but genius idea, like de way u work.
@TheSenior53 Thanks for the comment! We loaded the logs as the instructions said. It seems to work really well for such a simple machine. It's just really dangerous to use.
@TheSenior53 The log needs to be sideways so it doesn't just spin. To load it flat end first, you'd need to have a clamp to keep it from just spinning instead of being pulled in.
Always put the log on the arm first so it has a resting place and that way it can't spin. This is where alot of people get hurt , I'm sure cuz that looked dangerous at 5:57. Come on guys. Common sence will save you from going to the emergency room. IF you have a 50 HP tractor or larger run it at an idle.
just saw this video and had to post, my uncle was killed using his bark buster this past weekend, 12/11/10. use common sense around these extremely dangerous machines, if you know what is best you will render it unuseable for the rest of its days. RIP Uncle Dave, you will be missed.
@justintasker11 I am so sorry to hear this news. I do stress in this video just how dangerous this splitter is, and I showed how to stop it quickly. My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family. -Ed
@justintasker11 I am TRULY SORRY to hear about your uncle. Would you be willing to share with us how the situation happened?? I would personally like to know TO MAKE ME AWARE so I could avoid what happened to him. If you'd rather not say, then I completely understand and respect you for that... Thanks man.
Just read about 231's misfortune on another site and then came here and found this vid, thanks for posting. I was asking about the color and looks like yours has good paint so I assume the original is black. They sure do look dangerous, but so is a chainsaw, just have to use common sense around them.
@edzgarage Yes, you sure do. And you DON'T NEED TO BE ALONE while operating it! In all honesty, my father, grandfather, and uncle wants me to get rid of it... But I'm NOT! I really like it. And besides, I haven't had it but 3 days and only used it about an hour or so before I broke it. But that's ok because it's back together now and tomorrow it'll for sure be put to use.
If you ever need bearings for it, they are TIMKEN bearing part # RA103RR2. The ROBERTS brand OEM bearing is no longer made..
I just bought one of these things today! I LOVE IT!!! It's been VERY WELL taken care of. Don't have hardly any rust on it and is still kind of shiny. Ain't go t clute what year it is, but every decal is in it and very visible. It only looks a couple years old. How much were they new?? I just tore it up about an hour ago. I bent the shaft that the cone mounts to an messed up one of the bearings!! COMPLETELY my fault. WHERE CAN I GET PARTS??? I'M READY TO BUY NOW. Thanks for the GREAT VIDEO!!
@231MasseyFerguson Thanks for the comment! From the research I did these were recalled in the 80's because they were too dangerous. I don't think replacement parts are available anymore.
that things freakin insaine haha. dangerous but one heck of a great idea!!! if they would tatent that desgn into safer operation that would out do any wedge splitter!! GREAT video man
that is a nice setup my buddy and his dad have a couple of old willies jeeps with the winches that run of the pto drive a '47 and a '51 '47 ford military and a '51 cj3a
My dad had basically the same splitter he would hook to his Massey Ferguson. I remember having a lot of fun splitting logs with him in the driveway. They are dangerous, but if you respect them and use your head, no need to become a darwin award recipient. That's awesome you let the boys do all this stuff.
@TheSaturnV That's cool your Dad had one of these. I never seen one before we got his one. I let the boys help out so they don't get intimidated over new things, and I would rather have them learn from me, so they don't get hurt in the future.
@edzgarage my high school shop teacher told the class once that he would rather have someone ask for help instead of dealing with people who think they know what they are doing, and get hurt.
Good Machine, wonder if its worth welding another bar so you have a flat bed to lay the logs on ie a flat surface.Good piece of kit thou. Thanks for showing us
Looks like a Howse bush hog.
