This is the CORRECT way to cook lobster. My dad does it this way and I do it the same way. Not exactly the same but more or less.
First I get a giant brush (the kind you use to scrub woks and shit like that) and scrub it clean. Then release the VEIN (before I always referred to this as releasing his piss) and then rip his claws off, cut off the legs. Before chopping I like to take a hammer and smash up the shell a bit so that it is not so hard and then chop him up to bitesize chunks.
That was particularly cruel. I'm no leeding heart vegetarian, but I wouldn't eat a leg of lamb that had been cut off the poor thing before they slaughtered it. Still, that's the orientals for you - no wonder they're so good at torture.

The lobster (or crab) can be rendered unconscious immeidiately and permanently with a simple puncture to the brain using a proper tool. Avoiding this 5 second process is probably an indication that the chef either a: does not understand that animals feel the equivalent of what we call 'pain' when they are stabbed with sharp objects or dismembered alive, b: doesn't give a shit what the animal feels or c: enjoys sense of grandeur from his dominance over the 'food'. Lobster is very tasty. The research and evidence about whether or not lobsters feel pain is still up in the air. There research that suggest they DO feel pain (hopefully not because I'm not gonna stop eating them) and research that suggest they DO NOT feel pain. There is no conclusive evidence saying one way or another. I believe they, unfortunately, do feel pain though.
This isn't what they teach you in cooking school. This is a redneck in the Midwest who prepares a Maine lobster once in his lifetime. Forget about the lobster's pain, ramming a stick up the lobster's ass before it's dead only leads to cut hands as its reflexes do damage to your hands. A lobster should not be crawling away after you chop off its claws. If some other cook was next to my workstation and his lobster crawled onto my work area, I'd throw his lobster to the ground and stomp on it.
I am definitely not against killing animals and eating them either. And I am not familiar with Cantonese style of preparing lobster. But I do think that if you were going to dismember the animal like this, the very FIRST step should have been to split the head to save it from having to endure or perceive any more trauma than necessary.

You can't say for certain whether they feel pain or not, based solely on the fact their sensory system is not as "clever" as a humans.
They do, however, have stress receptors and most certainly feel the cut of a knife, whether or not this is painful is unknown, to state they don't feel pain so adamantly is silly.

IDIOT!!!! You're supposed to put the lobster in cold water and to boil it. It kills gradually the lobster without pain and after that you can prepare it to eat. Man, you are really a big idiot!!!!

This is the CORRECT way to cook lobster. My dad does it this way and I do it the same way. Not exactly the same but more or less.
First I get a giant brush (the kind you use to scrub woks and shit like that) and scrub it clean. Then release the VEIN (before I always referred to this as releasing his piss) and then rip his claws off, cut off the legs. Before chopping I like to take a hammer and smash up the shell a bit so that it is not so hard and then chop him up to bitesize chunks.

Usually the kill is fast with very efficient chopping and cutting. This was so slow and clumsy that the lobster's agony was prolonged.

People, its food if you eat meat (and lets face it you do, it tastes good) that animal died in what? 2 or 3 minutes? When it comes down to it, in the wild it wouldn't die any faster, no other animal is as kind to its prey as humans. The lobster (or crab) can be rendered unconscious immeidiately and permanently with a simple puncture to the brain using a proper tool. Avoiding this 5 second process is probably an indication that the chef either a: does not understand that animals feel the equivalent of what we call 'pain' when they are stabbed with sharp objects or dismembered alive, b: doesn't give a shit what the animal feels or c: enjoys sense of grandeur from his dominance over the 'food'. Just my opinion!

Lobster is very tasty. The research and evidence about whether or not lobsters feel pain is still up in the air. There research that suggest they DO feel pain (hopefully not because I'm not gonna stop eating them) and research that suggest they DO NOT feel pain. There is no conclusive evidence saying one way or another. I believe they, unfortunately, do feel pain though.

This isn't what they teach you in cooking school. This is a redneck in the Midwest who prepares a Maine lobster once in his lifetime. Forget about the lobster's pain, ramming a stick up the lobster's ass before it's dead only leads to cut hands as its reflexes do damage to your hands. A lobster should not be crawling away after you chop off its claws. If some other cook was next to my workstation and his lobster crawled onto my work area, I'd throw his lobster to the ground and stomp on it.

I am definitely not against killing animals and eating them either. And I am not familiar with Cantonese style of preparing lobster. But I do think that if you were going to dismember the animal like this, the very FIRST step should have been to split the head to save it from having to endure or perceive any more trauma than necessary.

You can't say for certain whether they feel pain or not, based solely on the fact their sensory system is not as "clever" as a humans.
They do, however, have stress receptors and most certainly feel the cut of a knife, whether or not this is painful is unknown, to state they don't feel pain so adamantly is silly.
Piercing it's gut would most likely not be greatly painful however, as its brain is "penetrated" by its abdomen. As I'm sure you know, not even humans have pain receptors in the brain.

Get the solid, one piece forged blade and handle at any asian grcery. A decent one can be had for $20

Lobster's nervous systems are not complex enough to feel pain. tons of studies have been done to see if lobsters can feel pain, THEY DONT. and if they do feel pain, it is very mild. so stop preeching about how inhumane it is to cook live lobster
