  • How does it not stink or spray or does it?

  • How long can skunks live in captivity? THere is a skunk living in my backyard but for some reason I....don't think I should slap a lease on em'.

  • @lyndoncjersey About 5-8 years. Really depends. Definitely much longer than they would in the wild by more than a couple years. I think the states that do allow pet skunks prohibit them to be removed from the wild. You must purchase from a liscensed breeder who breeds from a domestic line.

  • How do you get him/her to not spray you with piss.

  • @jefferygiraffe1

Don't frighten it. If you act suspicious, it'll be alert and spray you.

  • @jefferygiraffe1 With piss? I think you are confusing the excretory system with the anal glands. The anal glands in an intact skunk releases the foul-smelling fluid but it is not urine. Dogs and cats have this same gland with a similar fluid but cannot eject it like a skunk can. Skunks in the US are descented at an early age when it is less invasive (so also less painful) and healing time is quick. In the US, a domestic skunk must be descented.

  • SOoo cuteeeee!!!! i heard they make great pets and u can removed the smell order they release

  • @TheBlondewolf2 you get the gland removed yes :D you should look at fennec foxes!

  • @TheBlondewolf2 Ya, you can remove their sent glands but most people don't because its inhumane. I think it is :---( if they were legal in Texas, had no sent gland and were not wild animals I so would get one :D

  • @macancheezy It really depends on when its done. With a proper breeder/vet care, it should be done within the first few weeks of life when it is less painful/invasive and heals quickly. Any time beyond that it becomes too invasive. This is also why ear cropping/tail docking is *supposed* to be done within the first few days of life. However I do not agree with such procedures for "aesthetic" purposes

  • @TheBlondewolf2 They make wonderful pets for the right people. They are full of love and companionship and is a great alternative to people with cat or dog allergies. They are also very clean and easy to clean up after.

  • Actually, Skunks are related to weasels despite being in a separate family. They are related to the honey badger, who is also capable of spraying. Skunks are also capable of killing poisonous snakes like the honey badger.

  • @DomDeVille Well yes, but you can say that about a lot of animals that are not in the same family. We are not even in the same order with rodents, but we belong to the same class and are thus more related to them than say reptiles or fish. So it depends on your phylogenetic point of view. Fox and dogs are in the canidae family but not in the same genus of "true dogs" (Canis). Also, honey badgers do belong to mustelidae (weasel family) as well.

  • @sdeck09 you over-analyzed my comment, I'm aware of the relations between honey badger and skunk, man and ape, do and fox, etc. Perhaps there are others who did not, so thank you for helping me get the point across.

  • my mothers friend has a skunk but also a anteater, monkeys, racoon, sloth, fox, meerkats, coati, kinkajou, possum, african spotted genets, squrill, an iguana called dave + more! My mum fed the baby racoon (tinkerbell!)

  • @HamsterCare102 I would like a fox someday :) Genets and coatis are so amazing! And I have some experience with kinkajous as well. Does your mom do wildlife rehabilitation?

  • @sdeck09 no but my mums friends daughter works in a zoo and they look after any animals that need a lot more care

  • This is ADORABLE.

I so wish it was legal where I live D:

  • OMG, I WANT ONE,

  • its so cute!!!!!

  • oooooohmygawd.

    want.

  • it obviously has its defense gland removed right? ( by that i mean the gland that makes the shit smelling liquid)

  • @spacepickle123 Yes he has. But outside of the US it is illegal to descent pet skunks. I have talked to owners in the UK and their gland-intact skunks have never sprayed b/c a properly cared for skunk will trust their owners and see them as a safe place to be and will not feel inclined to ever spray.

  • @sdeck09 you can't own a living being. why don't you stupid americans understand that.

  • @lipstickonthemirror Of course you can, don't be ridiculous. A pet's provider/financial caretaker is officially, by law, considered to be the owner. A pet is their property, by law. Don't get held up on the words...they are, after all, just that.

  • @sdeck09

Precisely, Skunks can be the Ideal pet with or without the stink gland (As I call it) jus as long as you raise them as a baby and they see you as one of their own.

  • @sdeck09 Oh, nice to know that :-) Where are you from?

  • @soolovey Pennsylvania, just moved to Wyoming to pursue my graduate degree in Zoology.

  • He has a fb page? OH man I gotta go like it right this second. THE CUTE COMPELS ME!

  • I want one

  • I about died when I saw he had a white heart on his belly... so cute.

  • so qute!!!

  • So friggin cute...

  • OMG i want a pet skunk :D Hes so cute ^_^ I bet hes way bigger now that it a few years later. Still awesome^_^ Thanks for sharing this cute moment.

  • Oh god its adorable! Too bad we can't have them as pets here in Ontario, at least not that i know of lol

  • I never thought I would call a skunk cute but he's adorable !:)

  • why would anyone get a skunk as a pet on purpose? is that "in" or something?

  • @soolovey why would you ask a stupid question...

  • @beasst94 why is that a stupid question? i'd really like to know what makes people do that when there are so many abandoned and straying animals...just curious.

  • @soolovey Right, and I am one of those people that take in abandoned animals and try to make the world a better place for animals. My heart is full of compassion for suffering animals and I have devoted my life to further educate myself about conservation and what can be done to save biodiversity in this world. I have worked low-paying jobs all because I care more about helping animals. Anyone who knows me could never say that I don't care about the welfare of animals.

  • @soolovey First of all, I wouldn't call myself the type of person to do anything just because it is 'in'. Maybe it is not something that you have really heard/seen a lot about but there are many skunk owners out there and many happy pet skunks. I do it because they are wonderful animals and great companions. They are fantastic for people with dog/cat allergies. They have amazing personalities and love to be cuddled and held and truly appreciate the human companionship.

  • MY Grandfather had a pet skunk and I've been wanting one all these years, they are lovely pets. I am so jealous!!! What a doll!

  • @soolovey sdeck is right :) skunk owners also get their pet skunk's scent glands removed in case you were wondering about the smell.

  • @zyx0unknown0xyz I was just wondering why someone would get an animal that has to be "adjusted" first so it can be kept as a pet...sounds odd to me, but then again, if the animals are being treated well...

  • @soolovey ehh people like exotic pets it makes them feel awesome XD for example, i have a hedgehog, 4 rats, and a snake XD

  • @zyx0unknown0xyz Well, why not, if you treat your animals well ;) just because I do not "like" keeping exotic animals doesn't mean other people have to agree with me, right? :)

  • @soolovey yeah :3 absolutly right :]

  • @soolovey Not worse than people cropping their dogs ears or docking their tails? Thats just plain ridiculous and has no practical value other than aesthetics. In the US, domestic skunks must be descented. Not something I completely agree with, but the law is the law I suppose.

  • @sdeck09 Well, here in Germany the mutilation of animals is prohibited. Tails are allowed to be amputated if, for example, there's an inflamed wound. Also, hounds' tails get amputated because that makes them faster or something (!). Thank God there's so many organisations which go against that...we'll see what will come out of that ;-)

  • @soolovey Yes, and I whole-heartedly wish that the US was more strict about animal cruelty laws and punishment. It is disgusting that so many people get away with cruelty with just a slap on the wrist. And yes, tail amputations for medical purposes are justified. I used to work several years in an ER clinic and had to assist in many of these.

  • @sdeck09 I see, we agree after all :)

  • @soolovey BECAUSE Dumbshit, not only are SKUNKS incredibly CUTE, they are smarter than most DOGS, CATS, and other normal animals. ALSO, did you ever think that there are OTHER countries in the world besides America, where things are totally DIFFERENT. How come you're not on all the SNAKE videos saying "why would anyone want a snake"? or the SPIDER videos too... Those animals can fucking KILL people, and people still have them as pets. Skunks are awesome, you're just jealous.

  • @staphinfection Rubbish! Skunks make wonderful, energetic, endearing and curious pets, but they are not as intelligent as either dogs or cats. Generally, hunting animals are brighter than non-hunters, and skunks are gatherers, not hunters. I did read a story of one woman's claim that the spotted skunk - apparently, the most intelligent of the skunks - has human intelligence, but this is surely as foolish an assertion as the similar claim made for orcas.

  • @staphinfection Did YOU ever think that not everybody lives in the U.S.,like me?Obviously not.I live in Europe and that's why keeping a skunk as a pet is new to me, it's not common here. "where things are totally DIFFERENT",no shit ^^

Why am I not "attacking" people who are keeping reptiles? Why should I?I'm not supporting that but as I said,I'd just never heard of people keeping skunks of all animals. There's no reason to call people names, your mum never told you to be polite?-.-

  • @staphinfection And what would I be jealous of? I have a cat, which I love, and personally, I would never want a different animal for a friend, as is also apparently the case with sdeck09 and his/her skunk. So now what? ^^ People are different, broaden your horizon.

  • I can't believe how CUTE this little skunk is!

  • What a cutie!

  • @sdeck09 Who made and keept these laws I wonder.....

  • I want a pet skunk now!!!!!!!

  • did you get his stink gland removed?

  • So adorable! I have always wanted a skunk!

  • @Alienshadow5 WHAT?!?!?!?!? ARE YOU CRAZY?!?!?! (like to my videos)

  • So cute!

  • can you eat skunks????

  • @cvsporn You can eat anything with an anus and rectum

  • @sdeck09 wow thanks for such an insightful answer, now can you tell me the proper technique for skinning a skunk

  • @cvsporn You ask a stupid question, you get a stupid answer

  • @sdeck09 how to properly skin a skunk?

  • @cvsporn If that is something you need to know, you should ask someone with the expertise. I do not pretend to have knowledge in any area of field that I am not familiar with. Please direct your question to a taxidermist if you need a quality answer. This, however, is not the place. And domestic pets would not be the category to look under.

  • @sdeck09 skunks are not categorized as domestic pets according to US law, I would have eaten cat a long time ago, but was told skunks is OK to hunt and eat.

i figured u lived with one, you know how to skin one with minimal pain

  • @cvsporn According to the USDA, an animal is considered to be domestic if it has been raised in captivity for more than three (3) generations. Skunks have been raised in captivity in the United States for over two hundred (200) years and there are breeders in this country today who have been breeding skunks for almost seventy (70) years. Please know your facts before you comment.

  • it's Flower from bambi

  • How cute!

  • cute, I catch one in my trap. I got this on video

  • Okay. Now I want a skunk. It's all your fault.

  • Oh goodness, he's so sweet and cute. I'm looking into getting one after I move and get married and all that stuff. How much did he cost?

  • @SkaySunIvy $300. Usually black/white striped skunks typically cost around this. It really depends on the state and the breeder. Exotic colors/patterns will run you an extra $75-150 typically. Again, it depends. Be careful in choosing a breeder. There are some shady people out there. Do your research and ask them lots of questions. Make sure they are releasing them around 6-8wks of age and that they are NOT neutering them before they go to you. That should be done around 4-6 months of age.

  • They are cute and beautiful !!

  • I want to PET that little skunk!!!!

  • I want! :D

  • Lookit those KEWT liddle back laigs-- a'kickin and fluttering! SO CUTE!! THIS is a Well-loved pet!!!

  • Aww.. Sooo cute!!! :)

  • Can I have him?!?<3!

  • awwwww so cute..

  • Are they leagle in the uk

  • @matpinner only for people who know how to spell. sorry!

  • @matpinner Some areas. I know of a few people that have them in the UK. Depends on where you live. Check into the Health Dept laws and whoever controls wildlife/game there. You may also have to contact the city, b/c they may have their own stipulations. Try getting on a skunk forum and ask to speak with other UK-residents.

  • Sweey-pie! I bet he's luckier in love than Pepe Le Pew!

  • what state do you live in?

  • @furtaker101 Pennsylvania

  • I lived on a farm about (CENSORED) years ago and one summer my dad rescued a baby skunk and a baby raccoon. he had the baby skunk's scent gland removed and surprised us with her. My sister called her Lori. A few weeks later it was a baby raccoon and I called him Pedro. They both had to be bottle fed and, as I recall, they were both able to lay on their back and hold a bottle. Lori was sweet and very gentle, much like a cat. Pedro was mischevious and very playful. They were wonderful and loving

  • Idk what i'm looking at. A cute skunk or a cute tiny black and white fluff ball. Or maybe it's both

  • I would love to have one, please tell me about them

  • @sarabower1 Hi Sara, the best advice I can give is to do lots of research first. Number 1 thing you should find out is if they are legal in your area. Many states do not allow them, and some require special permits, etc. They are also quite a handful, especially when young, and require a lot of attention and time from you. They need stimulation, enrichment, special diets sometimes, and you need to locate a vet that has experience with skunks. They (and supplies) can start getting expensive.

  • @sarabower1 If you have specific questions, I would be glad to try to help. If you can, get on Jasper's facebook page (link is in description) and you can ask me there. I check this more often and only check my youtube comments once in a while.

  • OMG how is this not adorable i love skunks

  • Its a skunk... But it adorable!!!!!!!!!!

  • awwwwwwwwww

  • totally adorable !!!! I miss mine being so little. What I find frustrating is the fact that people can have pitbulls and other animals that can harm if not kill people but our little balls of fur we need a license for and are illegal in most states.

  • 3 people are despicable. Jasper is such a cutie :D

  • Does he still have his sprayer where he can smell up the place?

  • @takemeback70s No, typicallly pet skunks are descented at a very early age when the procedure is less invasive and the healing time is quick.

  • @sdeck09 how often do you bathe him? what does he eat?

  • @sarabower1 They are extremely clean animals, and groom themselves. I bathe him every few months or if he has been playing out in the dirt. Opinion on skunk diets vary quite a bit amongst owners. Personally I feed raw/natural. They require 1 meal of protein and 1 meal of veggies per day. So he gets raw meat or egg for breakfast and then a salad with his vitamins for dinner.

  • @sdeck09 I LOVE that liddle Skunkie! Ace (participant in SkunkFest 08, 09 10)

  • @takemeback70s i think it can be romoved by a skunk specialist

  • @paperclip123451 Oh a lawyer.

  • He's magical! D: He'll make anyone smile. <333

  • Absolutely adorable :) I work at a wildlife sanctuary in Wisconsin, so we have a few rehab skunks as program animals. I'm not sure about other states, but since skunks are a native species to the area, it's illegal to have them as pets here. I know Iowa and Florida allow them as pets. Does anyone know of any other states they're legal?

  • @drm6484 Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Michigan, New Jersey, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, West Virginia, Wisconsin, Wyoming. Source: SkunkHaven

  • @sdeck09 Thank you for the information. Took a look, and there are stipulations with each state where skunks are allowed. It does say skunks are legal in Wisconsin, but that refers to those who carry special permits, which I already knew. My question was in regards to skunks as domestic pets, not those requiring permits. But definitely a useful site. Thanks again!

  • @drm6484 Most all have some type of stipulations. There is constant pressure from Health Dept, Game Comm, and USDA to keep it heavily regulated. The outcome being that not many people get to experience the joy of having a skunk for a pet. They are wonderful companion animals and unfortunately there are too many negative connotations tied to them. I suspect that the appropriate govt branches like keeping it a challenge for these guys to make into the domestic households. A real shame.

  • @drm6484 It is a dream amongst many skunk owners for these strict regulations to be lifted so that anyone who wants to have a skunk can do so. They are great alternatives for people with cat/dog allergies. It would also help educate the public about skunks and debunk a lot of the sour rumors that go along with them. There is not a whole lot of veterinary knowledge about them, so that field could use some exploitation as well.

  • After having Pet Skunks, no other Animal compares

  • I seriously wanna squeeze that little skunk <3 it's so cutee!!!

  • Squueee!

  • Ordorly adorable

  • i'm legit so fucking jelly.

  • I have heard skunks cannot be vaccinated for rabies, so that may be the reason they are not legal as pets in much of the US.

  • @Miss65boo Actually they can be vaccinated. What you are probably referring to is that there is not a government approved rabies inoculation for skunks. I have heard IMRAB works well. There is a project called Aspen Skunk Rabies Research whose mission is getting a USDA approved vaccine as well as a recognized quarantine period

  • OMG i want one he is amazing...

  • you know what that animals is nocturnal??

  • @arcand88 Yes but domestic ones will adapt to your schedule. Jasper sleeps all through the night, right in my bed with me. He gets up once in the night to go use the litter box and then crawls back up under the covers.

  • Soft coat animal.

  • Om nom nom

  • Fun pets. But wen they get older they like to bite.

  • Cute little stinker.

  • OMFG my dog has that same toy!

  • @VampireKisses667 but smellier piss

  • @VampireKisses667 Actually, Jasper was descented at a very early age. This is the common practice, at least where we live. To do it at an early age is better b/c it is not as invasive nor painful, and they heal quickly. If you wait until they are older, at this point the glands retract, are larger, and more vascular and can cause more pain to be removed. Sort of like when puppies get their tails docked/ears cropped - its only an acceptable practice if done within the first few days of life

  • Comment removed

  • Omgosh so cute! <3 Just like a lil kitty

  • ya know, thats a pretty cool pet

  • dont they stink?

  • @manhidnatao No, they smell less than ferrets IMO. Very clean animals, constantly grooming themselves like cats. If you are referring to his scent glands, they are removed at a very young age. But outside of the US where intact-gland skunks are legal, owners report of never being sprayed by them. A pet skunk will bond to a human and trust their caretaker, so they are not going to get sprayed.

  • @sdeck09 funny.i got one thats been coming to my porch to eat the cat food i set out for streys.& now he just looks at me,then eats.i dont think hed spray...

  • @sdeck09 Yeah, skunks have a pretty good sense of smell, so they'd rather not spray if they don't have to. It also takes time to "recharge" and they probably know that.

  • Aww... he's so cute

  • aaawwwww.... Adorably awesome!!! :D

  • may i asked wha country you live in , i want a skunk realy bad , but honestly have no clue how to get one xD we have plenty here in montreal , canada just wondering around . but i dont think its a good idea to run after one and just take it xD

  • @VirginiaZinenkoo I live in the US , in Pennsylvania. They are not legal in many states unfortunately...they make great pets however. Some provinces in Canada allow them, but Quebec is not one of them :( sorry

  • @sdeck09 Aww poo! I want one and I live in Quebec! :( *cries*

  • my mom's yorkie (also named Jasper) has that same chew toy! haha but i was looking at pet skunk vids cuz mine is sleeping..but i wanna play with her!

  • @HeroSavage uh oh, everyone watch out..we've got a guy here trying to be a troll, except his antics aren't funny or clever

  • @sdeck09 Is that nice piece of ass you in the video?

*takes off "TROLLFACE" mask* Just a minute....

*puts on "RAPEFACE" mask* Okay im ready....

  • @HeroSavage haha oh now we're getting somewhere..cause rape is so hilariously offtopic and everything. But I can't seem to find my fine piece of ass in this particular video...hmm, a compliment I will acknowledge nonetheless. Dear child, I would delight in eating you up for breakfast and regurgitating you on my wall of other sorry fools I have had the great pleasure of coming across. No matter how much hate and disgust you think you have in your heart...I have more.

  • @sdeck09 hero it sounds like youve got a dirty mouth on you, id love to fuck it. lets get in touch with eachother ;)

  • @HeroSavage speaking of nice pieces of ass, get over here savage let me violate the hole of yours

  • @luv2buttfckherosavag Haha omg wow, did you really spend that much time to make an account to reply to me? Im touched really I am... To tell you the truth I never even put more than 10 seconds of my time to a comment... but you went all out huh? I guess I really must have shit on your day. Oh well have fun playing with that skunk. I still think shes a nice piece of ass.

  • @HeroSavage that's not even me, but nice try...It's probably you for all I know...looking for even more attention maybe? Whats a matter...mommy and daddy didn't love you enough?

  • @HeroSavage Oh so I get it, you were talking about raping Jasper's ass. It all makes sense now. Well he's very flattered but he doesn't swing that way, sorry. Better luck next time. Might I suggest pridedating(dot)com? I'll cross my fingers for you.

  • What a darling baby. This vid is so cute.
