@GatakiribaPro the lava trap part i dont think will, as it requires a ladder to stop it from falling down, and they removed the ability to do that, by removing the ability to stand on top of ladders.

Wow thanks so much! im building my mushroom farm right now... all i need is some lava~ the only thing im doing differently is using pistons to control waterflow , and im dividing it into 2 halves sp i get equal amounts of each mushroom

Mine is manual. I have a water curtain in front to reduce the light. Inside, I have redstone torches to provide light. It's dark enough so that mushrooms will grow, but light enough so that mobs are unlikely to spawn inside.

minecraft day, not a real day, and mushrooms spawn im rooms with a light level of 1-12 and for everylevel higher they spawn slower. on 1.7.3 they apparently need a level of 1 to grow or thats just the red ones

Hi Jbams, I was wondering if you ever thought of instead of breaking the dirt blocks at the top, incorporate 3 piston watergates into your design. I haven't tested this theory yet but I know 1 will work. If when you lower the piston the water doesn't flow through the opened space, maybe try putting a sand block and lower the sand allowing water to flow into the 3 holes. I think flipping a switch would be much easier than destroying the dirt. Just a thought! Try it out?

Great video, very helpful, but a sugestion is that u take out the lava trap and right before the drop to the channel that goes down the hole just put a wall that is from the ceiling that stop s a block before the ground.... this prevents the stop of mushroom growth becuz the light of lavA! keep makin vids!

mushrooms can grow in level 12 light or less. that means that they cannot grow next to torches or two blocks away from lava, but you can put torches in the roof like this _  _

Mobs spawn at a maximum of 7, mushrooms can grow at 11, you can farm them without mobs spawning but you have to be good with torches.

Certain light levels make mushrooms spawn slower, like lava, but it has to be above light level 12 to make mushrooms unable to spawn (so basically direct sunlight)

What level of light douse the lava give off? Because that could slow down the production, just to let you know. But very good idea, you could make it so that you need to break one block instead off 3, very easily but I’ll go over the amount of characters I’m allow so I won’t go there. But very good, 5stars, wouldn’t mind going on that server.

In my experience you don't have to have a room that dark. I just made a spacey room with one or two torches 1 meter from the ground on every wall and plenty of seed mushrooms. They grow fine, even in the brighter parts of the room, just not on the block right underneath the torch. They would probably grow faster in the dark, but I already have more mushrooms than I can use, so I'm satisfied.

Try holding shift while clicking items, it will automatically move them to the chest or opposite, move them to your inventory, helps a lot.always forget to comment it.

Mushrooms do not need a very dark room. They cannot exist next to torches, but you can keep your room lit.

when the update first came out it was just a popular belief that they have to grow in (complete) darkness!

So you can now leave some torches and then monsters will not spawn anymore!

Jbams, a little sidenote, I think, to make the room more dark, is to somehow put a wall against the lava so there is even less light.. That'll make the spawnrate much more.. I think :)
