I always thought he said "You held your cup in the air and called it anchor time" but lyrics site say "you held your cock in the hair and you called it a guitar".
This is an amazing song. The first time I heard it I knew it was something very special. Wolf Parade could disband tomorrow and this song will live forever.
omg im watching her in her room on camera right now in a pink skirt n white top @ webcamfreak.notlong. c om ...shes on there with 3 other chicks and they are all getting drunk on vodka and they are really really hot this is so incredible ahhh!!!
second, look up the latin inscription on the courthouse....
third, read the poem "the hangman" by maurice ogden...
about pitchfork and their placing music within a context, who knows, but place this video & music within the context of the bush 2 era and the torture debate, and it is one of the most fucking brilliant things i've ever seen.
please read the poem and look up the latin.
amazing. nobody would go to the trouble to create this without a contextual meaning.
Leaving At Mount Zoomer outside the top 50 albums of 2008, but adding things like Kanye West, Fleet Foxes, Hot Chip and Lil Wayne... Sometimes I really don't get Pitchfork. Ah well, who cares.
This song is so epic and the video really fits. Awesome! <3
Oh wow, really great song! Also, whoever decided to pair this with the video from the "The Hangman" by Maurice Ogden (which is also really cool) has done something epic.
most gut-punching song since "doin the cockroach" by modest mouse. the breakdown at 3:28 delivers 37 clinically precise jabs to the heart. honestly, it buckles me every time. pitchfork stand condemned for giving the album a lukewarm review and leaving it out of their year end top 50. shame! guess they're too bust camping it up over cut copy, congratulating each other over the election of obama, and attending each others' cocktail parties to have much time to feel disaffected...
Considering that like 1 and 10 reviews on Pitchfork get higher than a 7 and a half, I'd say it's not a bad score. Mount Zoomer is an excellent CD but not as good as Apologies to the Queen Mary. I will agree that it did deserve a spot on the 08 top 50 though.
that's actually a brilliant comment, as i think you've keyed-in on the fundamental flaw of pitchfork's reviewing... although being very intelligent and insightful, they (re)view music from a different prism than some kid listening to a song in his room after a shitty day, trying to make sense out of the world... the "depth" that they see in music often comes off as superficial and pretentious, whereas real depth can't be weighed... Obama changes nothing to that kid, but this song has meaning
don't wanna hate on the pitchies too much. i learn a lot form the site. but i reckon in this case some sort of political wrangling upset the democratic process. petrusich called this song "histrionic". that infuriates me! it's as if she gives herself permission to grade them down because they cross some line of taste that, for her, marks the crucial boundary between CONTRIVING to SOUND alienated (which is, like, so cool), and actually EXPRESSING REAL alienation (embarrassing and distasteful).
oh yeah... overall pitchfork has been great for me in expanding my musical tastes... they're smart and on the cutting edge, but it's annoying that they have the tendency to frame their music critiques based on issues outside of the music itself (prejudice on some occasions?)... they want to breakdown music eras in very precise way (but also often inaccurate)... thematically, Kissing the Beehive doesn't fit the Obama era music we're supposed to embrace... alienation, longing are still real though
According to the description, neither. It's credited to Melrose Productions Inc, made in 1964. I'm pretty sure Seattlejam was just the one to match the song and video together.
This album kicks ass. Its a total LP (long player). An ipod shuffle would not do this album justice. It doesnt have all the poppy-dancey songs that "Apologies..." had. Its really mellow but builds up to this song. I usually hate 10minute songs but this one just keeps building and building.
I really don't think I underestimate Dali at all, I've study his work a lot, and i think that wen gallows begin to grow in the video they take on similar characteristics to his abstract style.
love wolf parade...their songwriting is brilliant...nice to have something that isnt shitty and made to make money/another excuse for trend bitches to be more trendier
what are you crazy? of course they do it to make money. why do you think they promote themselves? if they didnt do it to make money they be still playing in local bars to 30 odd people. of course they love making great music but they also need an income. what better way to make money?
thats just it... you have no idea if they are being "sincere" or not. In the end, they are striving to make good music, and who knows, they could be doin it cater for all the alternative art fags who refuse to consume certain music because its "popular". In the end, i bet they would rather make music for an income than wash dishes. i find it funny that as soon as bands start makin "popular" music they are labelled as sellouts. maybe they enjoy it and the money is an added bonus...
just saw these guys at the sub pop festival outside seattle. they played the whole mt zoomer album except bang your drum, and runner, sons and daughters, and ill believe in anything from apologies. this song was by far the highlight.
4:48 is in my top 5 favourite solos of all time. saw them at sasquatch last year. incredible song and band.

I hear modest mouse in this so much. Epic truly is the only word, too. It carries such a vibe. Good mashup.
