Amazing - it even sounds like a Deltic (well, as close as you can get anyway!)When do we get to see the opposed-piston version complete with phasing gears :-)
@baldbloke I'm not totally clued up with Deltics (never seen a real one) so might've misunderstood the question, but when I built this, the gearing was designed so that one crankshaft ran opposed to the other 2 so that that phasing was correct.
@seasonedtoker nothing at those speeds probably. But i took a simple V8 version of these lego 'engines' and hooked it up to a 32,000rpm dremel... melted the crank and the cylinders were a little hot.
@07jkearney There is a Medium Lego PF motor geared up 3:1 running out of shot. It's possible to fit the motor inside of the cylinder triangle in order to hid it, but I've not yet tried fitting one in there with additional gearing.
@tpvalley I did wonder how long it would take someone to spot/mention that, the cradle was built as an afterthought just to provide a video of it running. This engine now has a partner, along with a transparent Baby Deltic, just need to get them on here sometime.
Great work!
I tweaked it a little (see my video response) so that all three cranks turn at the same speed

I was always wondering how much heat from friction do these plastic parts create?
seasonedtoker 8 months ago
@seasonedtoker Zero heat in the short time that I ran it - the tolerances aren't very close at all and plenty of moving air.
