  • @mercenaryomega1 Exactly when, where and who was in the wreck at @1:16?

  • 1:14 wat happened behind the car

  • @gemini72099 what actually happened there was the 2nd car (the one that crashed) was so close up behind the nissan that he actually could not see the edge of the track around the car ahead of him. Coming through the slight bend there his left side wheels went off and lost traction which is what sent him into the spin and crash.

  • do these crashes happen to come from the havoc series??

  • Holy wheelie at 1:05. and why can't you all quit arguing like an old married couple?

  • Glad there is a mute button. What a suck-ass soundtrack.

  • @mazro1861 I notice from your profile you are 25 so perhaps I can just about excuse you! In terms of your contemporaries perhaps not, but in the past most definitely. For example Mario Andretti, albeit he is a naturalised Italian or Italian Croat. Phil Hill is another also Dan Gurney. Arguably, I would rate such drivers better than today's, because they needed more skill were more physical and faced far more risks.

  • @sonicstep yeah that profile is out of date... or you are bad at math XD Regardless I am actually 31 now. And I do agree with you entirely, but, on the world stage in the last 10 years or so, it is really hard to find a successful american driver. On the flip side, the international drivers seem to rarely fare well in NASCAR so call it a horse a piece?

  • @mazro1861 America's had some fucking insane drivers. Phil Hill, Mario Andretti, Bill Vukovich, AJ Foyt, Richie Ginther and Dan Gurney to name a few. Maybe Europe's produced more and we definitely have, but the US has some brilliant drivers who I personally have adored watching.

  • Even 0:43 was survivable? Top first into the tree's? I can believe the spinny one at the end before you showed the driver get out.

  • @jbrun009 Very survivable. This was Bob Aiken in the Coke 956-962, I was standing there I believe in the mid 80's and watched the crash, my Dad actually ran over and helped him climb out of the car..... I was also on ESPN walking by at about 6 years old lol.... I'll never forget that crash, turn 6 Road America.

  • man that guy in the last wreck walked away from that like a boss

i was routing for that nissan gtp out in front, i was worried that was going to be the wreck for a minute xD

  • Good video, with a neat ending too. Nice job!

  • @mazro1861 imunyetdiscovered

  • AWESOME STUFF!!! Thanks

  • @mazro1861 LOL. Mario Andretti. Dan Gurney, Phil Hill, AJ Foyt and many many more prove you're totally wrong.

  • @TotalMotorsports never heard of them. How about Sterling Moss, nigel mansell, graham hill, damon hill the list goes on and on, but anyway, if it is "proof" you want, just watch this video again to see some quality american driving.

  • @mazro1861 I agree that Europe produced more drivers who achieved international success but one of the reasons is that F1, Le Mans and other European racing classes are not so popular in the US. The highest target for the US drivers is usually NASCAR. But anyway, sorry, but if you never heard of drivers I mentioned, you seem to know very little about racing.

  • @TotalMotorsports Na i know a fair bit. Probably not as much as you, but then your name is "totalmotorsports" so I wouldnt expect to. Anyway, I have had a change of heart and will admit America has produced some world class drivers. Aryton Senna, Felipe Massa, both from America. Yeah South America obviously. Not North America. That would be ridiculous.

  • Nicely taken off of a VHS 'and the walked away' -___-

  • hahaha the red car got eaten by the trees :D

  • @mercenaryomega1 and the space shuttle could'nt turn at all LOL

  • i just want to say that the crashes from nascar although spectactular are shit because they are constantly travelling at high speeds

  • @mazro1861 Well, there have been plenty of Americans in track racing, but they usually don't do it as long as European track racers.

Example: 1979 24 hours of Nurburgring, two AMC Spirit AMXes (you know, the company that made the Pacer and the Gremlin), stock, are sponsed by B.F. Goodwrench. The two cars get both first and second in their class, and 25th and 43rd overall.

  • awesome vid. brings back a lot of memories watching racing when i was younger

  • @mazro1861 there have been more american pro drivers than any other nation

  • @jasonking959 and how many world champions?

  • @mazro1861 plenty. maybe not recently, but go back through the history of F1 and world touring car as well as many other european, american, and asian racing series

  • @jasonking959 I still think that considering the achievements of the USA, including landing men on the moon, they have a disproportionately small amount of world class racing drivers. Obviously there are some, but not as many as you would expect.

  • @mazro1861

We have some good drivers. We've even won events like the 2002 race of champions vs the best F1 and rally drivers.

The thing is that, for reasons I don't understand, NASCAR is the most popular form of racing in the US, and after working their way up through carting or roadracing or whatever, our top drivers go there and make 10 million dollars a year to wear cowboy hats and drive in a circle for 4 hours. It doesn't exactly allow them to showcase their skills...

  • Silence please.... no music!!!!!!!

  • @vojtakarel just to give you an idea of what they are about, they don't have a transmission or clutch, the engine drives rear wheels directly. This is to save weight.

  • @vojtakarel they are sprint cars, kinda blue collar in most cases but they are by far the most ridiculous machines you have ever seen. I watched one get clocked at 207mph while sliding through a corner.

  • @Cruxalicious Corvette ZR-1, and Corvette family of Le Mans GT cars

  • @mazro1861 - Mario Andetti. Read his Wiki.

  • @Biffbradford haha ironic you should mention him, seen as he was winning races around the time of the moon landings. But yeah you can have him.

  • @mazro1861 Could also be that there's never been a great American car.

Ford GT40? Amazing piece of design by the Ford UK blokes.

Shelby Cobra? Nice, putting a Corvette engine in an AC Cobra, a British car.

  • @mazro1861 Johnny O Connell has 4 class victories at Le Mans. Hurley Heywood won it 3 times overall and lists a ridiculous amount of sportscar achievements. I think they count as "good" drivers.

  • @daveellis0808 never heard of em

  • what kind of sickness is the "sport" of the buggiss with the outrageous wing above? i never saw any good racing video of them, only crashes. is it really sport only for crashing?

  • and they walked away i love this videos they were brill and love the song you chose

  • this is "and they walked away" isnt it???

    awesome crashes dude

  • "Hey! what do you do for a living?" " I occasiionally turn up the juice in my killer death touch vehicle always having a near death experience at the finish line......ima racer.."

  • @mazro1861 Mario Andretti? Paul Newman (he did finish second at Le Mans)? Jon Fogarty? Scott Pruett?

The only details is American race driver race in USA pretty much all their life, often limited to one discipline (if you race stock car, you race on Oval) while European race anywhere and in a bit more discipline (WRC champ? Well, do some rallycross and some touring and race Le Mans). Just compare to CV of Jimmie Johnson and Sebastien Loeb ;)

  • @mazro1861 what about Ken Block?! LOL JOKE! he got 2 points in the WRC when Sebastian Loeb finished with 276! Hahaa, American Drivers do suck! :P

  • nicely done, good to see some old stuff.

  • Mayby "best" is the wrong word when talking about crashes? An accident is never good, people do get hurt in these videos. Yes, they do look cool, but still, wrong word

  • @LordNisse111 The reason they can be called the "BEST" racing hits is because all the drivers in this video got out of the cars under their own power. Of all the footage, only one driver required a trip to the hospital and that was due to the fact that he was knocked out during the crash, but came to as they were unfastening his seat belts. The issue of being knocked out required a mandatory trip to the hospital for observation, but he was released the next day after overnight observation.

  • I could watch car wrecks all day.

  • may i ask what it is with americans and mainly turning to the left?

  • what VHS video did these come off of?

  • @brettcrashman If i'm not mistaken it is called "Crashes - and they walked away".

  • which And they walked away with Steve Evans's did you get this..lol..I have em all!!! but will never post..everyone else has to buy em! hahahaha

  • That truck doing donuts is flipping awesome!

  • not the most spectacular crashes but vintage which makes it pretty cool, one suggestion though is instead of metallica use a song from the era , good work

  • @darrentoronto I appreciate the critique, and I wholeheartedly agree that a song from the 80's would be more appropriate, however at the time when I did this I could not come up with a better more fitting song, at least most people associate the band with the 80's.

  • @darrentoronto since it is from the 80's metallica are perfect for this but slayer would be even better

  • what the song at the ending?

  • WOW 1:18 Awesome crash XDDD

  • Wow, I did not know you could upload to youtube from VCR..

  • @lovelyangel80 it's not uploaded from VHS to youtube, it was converted from VHS into an MPEG file on the computer than edited. Very simple to do with a capture card that can be purchased at any store that deals in computer components.

  • Very good ending

  • lol look at the carnage

  • Hey mercenaryomega1, do you happen to own the VHS, "...And They Walked Away"?

  • Should probably change the title to, Crashes, instead of Racing.

  • @TDDWEST best racing "hits" of the 80's... as in HITTING the wall and everything else. I enjoy being a bit creative with my titles.

  • great vid, but a very bad music

    5 stars

  • its metallica! give them a break, filthy rap listener

  • How did that one red prototype at about 0:40 end up in the trees?

  • I remember the crash from the video this was taken from. It was the Coca Cola sponsored Porsche 962 in the Imsa GTP series. I believe it was driven by Jim Mullen. There was contact with the BF Goodrich sponsored 962 mid corner which sent the car onto the grass at a point where there was no barrier, but a dirt bank which acted as a ramp for the car. I think the circuit was Lime Rock. Hope this helps.

  • Between the time I made the comment and the time of your reply, I found a video exclusively of that crash. It was actually at Road America. Turn 6, to be exact.

  • I actually tried to find the video but couldnt. Now you've said it, i do remember it was Road America. Was i right about the driver, as i couldn't remember and thought it may have been Bob Akin, as he was the Coke 962s owner

  • @breaderb16lag I believe it was Mullen or Aiken driving, I was standing in the corner watching this race, Bob Wolleck of the BFG car dove down the inside and send him straight off, this is turn 6 at Road America.

  • the First song is: Metallica - Fuel. I love Metallica

  • captain fucking obvious strikes again... no shit it's Metallica, It even says so on the vid

  • I love the cars of the 80's!

much more beautiful than the cars nowadays

  • what you put the music from Metallica down but the one from Noir there at the end...for shame, lol. Definitely a good mix with some good saves and some not so good saves.

  • Give may few, give mah fahh, mive mahh double-trided zire

  • No, no, no. It goes: Gimme fuel, gimme fire, gimme that which I desire!

  • totally wrong...

its: Give me fuel. Give me fire.Give me that which I desire.

  • lol, the sport with the buggys carrying sheds on their roof

  • They're called sprint cars

  • wt.... was that yellow car at 4:27 a Fiero?

  • Comment removed

  • I hated this song before....but man it works well as a crash video bacround song....*****stars

  • your right, i hated this song too, but it does work well....... still hate the song though!!!

  • Hate and Metallica dont belong in the same sentance

  • 1:15-1:25 Anybody have info on that crash?

  • Most of these cars have the swirl setting too high.

  • Its funny that the only thing that has changed over all these years is the height of the safety barricades!

  • At 3:33 such a great driver

  • What type of racing at 2:03 to 2:08?

  • It's a bit hard to see, but im guessing IROC Series...

  • Actually it is old ASA action from the old Laguna Seca track in California.

  • well, i don't know much about amarican racing... They don't put much on tv here in Denmark, other than NASCAR once in a while...

  • I think that looks more like the old Riverside Road Course.

  • at 2:09 i dont think he got outta that one by himself

  • No that was bob glidden. He climbed from the car under his own power from that wreck. The only injury he sustained was a cut on the back of his right hand. All the safety equiptment performed perfectly allowing him to walk away from that horrific wreck.

  • Great video! 3:36 - superb recovery!

  • The guy in the accident at 2:30 is Buzzie Ruetimann, the guy that piled in in what seemed like an eternity after the original crash happened. He DID NOT WALK AWAY form that wreck ans was seriously messed up. It happened at the Mile in Syracuse and He ended up with serious head injuries that left him in the hospital for months and all but ended his career. His son is David Ruetimann, the present day cup competitor in the Sprint Series.

  • That crash did end his career, however he did climb out of the car under his own power. However his injuries were quite serious, but as he did climb out of the car on his own, he did technically walk away and is still alive today though no longer racing.

  • If I ain't mistaken, that was in 1986 at an IMSA event in Road America

  • Davey Jones was injured at the Walt Disney World Speedway in 1997 which ended his career.

  • @signguy44 I watched him race Dirt Tracks here in Eastern Ontario all through the 90's and met his son at dream weekend at Brockville Ontario Speedway in 94.

  • 1:09 whellie!

  • what's the song?

  • that's Metallica -Fuel

  • its very horrible all the others just want to win adn donthelp them like chashing so they can die?

  • Love the way the guy at 4:19 just parallel parks his car in the woods! "If i hide in the trees, no one can see me!" :P

  • That semi crash was my favoite..i laugh every time.

  • at 2:58, was Bob (Tulius) driving?

  • CLOSE! that was Bob Tulius's #44 Jaguar however the car had wrecked earlier in the race and been rebuilt so Doc Bundy was behind the wheel for experience and planted it into the tire wall just a few laps after getting it back into the race.

  • Thanks for posting some sweet crashes without people dying.

  • Thank you. I try to stay away from the "horror crash" stuff. There is only one clip I have ever used that was a fatality clip and that was in one of my nascar pieces. I used the Earnhardt Sr wreck because it was appropriate but you wouldn't believe how much flack I caught over it.

  • at 0:21, that looks like Wally (Dallenbach's) Ford XR4Ti (campaigned by Jack Roush) in that shunt.

  • the car that made the shunt was Pete Halsmer in the #2 car who had lost front brakes early in the race. The 28 car was Jim Miller. The track was good ol Limerock turn #1

  • Thanks for the clarification. Where is Pete these days?

  • I'm not really sure... I don't have cable any more and havn't been able to watch much aside from nascar. I'd love to find out where some of these drivers are these days.

  • HOWEVER in Best Racing Hits of the 80's part 2 the clip from 2:55 is the in car camera with Wally tangling with... dun dun dun... Pete Halsmer in the #2 from that same race... and as they said "Dallenbach went out not to long after with engine failure" gee how many times did we hear THAT in his career.

  • You need an 80's song, Ride the Lightning

  • yeah I could have used an older 80's by metallica, but I felt that the sound was close enough even though it was from the 97 release of reload.

  • and they walked away I, II, & III. own them all and love them

  • I only have the first one which was a hand me down from my uncle, hence the poor quality as it was watched a ton when I was a kid. I am still looking for the other two but havn't found them when I have money lately.

  • lol 4:06 c'mon thats just plain fuckin stupid why race a big ass truck...no brain.

  • the GATR (Great American Truck Racing) was actually quite interesting to watch. I am a professional truck driver and found it quite interesting myself. But due to the size and weight they kept knocking the walls down so they had to abandon the series.

  • Utley's Mack, the Group 44 Jag, the BEEEEmer IMSA car, Gant, Walt Bohren, Gloy, a young Mark Martin, Schrader at Devil's bowl in a sprinter, Weaver, Davis Jr.....but you have me at .41 going into the trees.

  • nice save 3:36

  • i blew these tapes up when i was a kid good times

  • who' ready for metallica's new cd coming out!

  • this was the from the and they walked away video's huh? loved those video's as a kid haha

  • At 4:39 that was Davey Jones that crashed at Road America. YES he did walk away from this accident!

  • big rig racing, never heard of that, lol!

  • 3:33-3:38 AWESOME!!

  • 4:05 - 4:18, that's why semi trucks should never race.

    Cool Video, thanks a bunch.

  • The GATR series went down for just that reason. They tore up the walls too darn bad when they did crash and the weight ripped up the asphalt. Though as a professional truck driver, I still think it would be fun to do.

  • Wow, totally ripped this from the first edition of "and they walked away". Give credit where credit is due. Fix your tracking on your VCR while your at it.

  • firstly it is credited to TNN's American Sports Cavalcade (which is where and they walked away came from) Secondly it is a VERY old tape which is noted in the about comments if you read them, and lastly, if you read the above comments before you comment you might have seen it was addressed already.

  • i remember that and they walked away tape.. i had part II and i cant find it anywhere. grew up with that tape...

  • Ah, the good ol' "And They Walked Away" tapes. No telling how many times I watched these when I was younger (and I still pop them in from time to time now). Some of the commentary lines are still ingrained in my mind.

"Jones is out of the race car...he stepped out of that March-built BMW-powered chassis."

  • How about this classic?

"Those tires must have come off in the shape of cubes.."

  • or another great one...

"Jim Mullen walked away from this one probobly finding it hard to believe that he had to climb out of a TREE first."

  • Yet another...

    "One. Stuck. Throttle."

  • The one that was worse than any of them, was the stock car #71 hitting that inside wall at 4:00.

HOLY FUCK...that was BRUTAL...who was that guy?

That's the type of hit that kills drivers...sharp driving impacts with pure concrete.

  • That was a guy by the name of Bobby Dragon, who drove the number 71 car that slammed the wall at the 4:00 mark, Bobby was an unknown Stock Car driver.

  • Those lines from that tape were the best, the one that you came up with was my favorite line from the tape, I'd find that hard to believe too.

  • I want more

  • if anyone wants to send me more footage to work with I'll gladly make more, but I'm very VERY nearly tapped out of my 80's racing footage, so if you want more see part two for now, otherwise SEND ME MORE TO WORK WITH :)

  • nascar was the best in the 80's and 90's, before the media and brian france killed it

  • All of these crashes are form the videos AND THEY WALKED AWAY. i have all 5 videos they are great. Nice video too iam glad someone finally made a compilation of the videos.

  • Actually, it was the 'And They Walked Away' series I'm thinking of. Will you be posting more videos like this? I hope you do.

  • I will be considering posting some more of the video from the vid you mentioned (yep that's where it mostly came from) but I plan to do another one just because I can

  • Cool, I'll keep an eye out for some more. Do you know if that video series has been released on DVD? I used to have a heap of them on VHS 15-20 years ago, but they're long gone.

  • I have no idea if it ever came out on DVD. I only have the old VHS copy which is kinda evident in the quality of the video I am using.

  • very nice video!

  • I remember alot of those from the Havoc series of crash videos, nice compilation mate. The text at the end was a nice touch, made me laugh.:)

  • Wow, IMSA GTP...

  • I looked for that Bob Glidden wreck forever.

  • This looks like a lot of stuff recorded on TNN's Cavalcade of Motorsports back in the 1980s. I used to watch that every week.

  • that's exactly where the footage came from. It's all from the Diamond P American Sports Cavalcade. I was going through some of my old videos and found a bunch of old stuff and decided to throw it together to remember the good ol days

  • everyone is so wrapped up in the new stuff these days that I thought a video that remembered back when in some of the good ol days was called for. I had the footage so I compiled a bunch of good stuff to make something fun.

  • Don't stop there man, post some of the old races...
