  • I might have been on the board that morning for the sign-on. I Worked there 1982-2005

  • @newzcamera - How long did Eusebio Valls (who alternated with Jorge Ramos on signing on and off the station, and co-anchored with him on "Informador 47" in the '80's) work there? I know that was Ramos (not to be confused with the Univision anchor of the same name) on this clip . . .

  • I might have been on the board that mporning for the sign-on. I Worked there 1982-2005

  • does anyone have the intro when the wwf use to show lucha libra on channer 47

  • This would scare the hell out of me when I was a kid. The sing-of that is..

  • La leyenda viviente del canal 47 orgullo de Puerto Rico Don Jorge Ramos a la cabeza

  • Their mascot cat (el gato) always scared me as a little boy for some reason.

  • Does anyone have the sign off!?!

My little brother was always scared when he heard the announcers voice I'd like to surprise him with it.

Thanx for putting this up, brings back memories.

  • Awesome sign on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I'm new jersey now

  • This came on just before 8am and was followed by Richard Roberts Live, a religious program.

  • Coolest sign-on announcer ever!

  • @TheAccountSecond - That was Jorge Ramos (still with the station today, and not to be confused with the Univision anchor of the same name).

  • more video of WNJU 47 80s commercial plsese we need more.

  • I miss NY/NJ I move to georgia And i don't have spanish local cannel

  • LOVED the Aim High SSB...now what I really want to see is the one 41 used...it starts as a guitar rendition that morphs into the orchestra (the video is of a service man, I think from the Navy, coming home)

  • WPHL-TV 17 is the sign off with the Navy recruit

  • You're RIGHT...I'm going right over there to see it now!

  • Just watched it...that music is beautiful as is the video that accompanies it.

I am now wondering, though, if there were two versions of that SSB...I seem to recall a different scene when the Navy man comes home. I swear there were children in the family, and when he is talking he pantomimes a ship with his hand (you know what I am trying to talk about there...)

  • P.S. that version of the SSB totally fit the Spanish language WXTV!

  • I hope that I am not mistaken, do they used to air japanese television a long time ago on this network & is this were on a Saturday evening? Canal 47 used to have WWF wrestling (lucha libre) too?

  • YES on both counts! And I tried to stay up late for both (which was easier on a weekend, obviously) What I recall from the Japanese Show was a Mac Perro PSA running, then the WNJU Spanish lineup for next day (w/AWESOME music, I wish someone could find it), and then the WNJU announcer would say, "And now, our Japanese Programming, brought to you by Nippon (whoever)..."

I also remember they always showed a Casio keyboard commercial and one for cat food.

  • Yes, some Mac Perro commercials please!

  • I remember when they had Bewitched The 3 Stooges and Laurel and Hardy dubbed in Spanish!!!

  • I remember going to visit my grandmother in Brooklyn and this was the only channel she ever watched. I also remember thinking that that was the ugliest "4" I had EVER seen; it looked like a monster bit off the upper lefthand corner of a TV set. Keep in mind that I was 6 at the time.

  • ese 4 se parece al de wapa

  • Aqui esta el gato???? ;-)

  • is this before Telemundo?

  • A year before.

  • Looks like it was the WAPA TV affilate before the days of WAPA AMERICA

  • At one point, both WNJU and WAPA were owned by Screen Gems (of "Evil S" fame). That company also owned KCPX-TV (now KTVX) in Salt Lake City, UT, which (I.I.N.M.) also had the same "4" logo as WAPA and one-half of WNJU.

  • @wmbrown: you're absolutely correct. Some programming from WAPA was aired on WNJU during the days of Screen Gems ownership. Similarities on the "4" logo are obvious.

  • Soory, I don't think I have anymore WNJU. I don't have the sign off or the preview.

  • Any WXTV?

  • No sorry.

  • @TechnerVideo -- every night on wnju 47 ., there was this dog wearing a robe brushing his teeth and gargling talking and singing a song saying "until tomorrow until tomorrow" in spanish ., but before that i saw a bumper with a grandfather clock on the left side of the t.v. screen ., i can't remember what was on the right side its a blurrr so long ago i was like 2 or 3 years old at that time does anyone remember what i'm talking about ?

  • Wow! I have been looking for classic 47 ID's/continuity/etc. for the longest time! Got any more? (Would love to see the 47 signoff, and the weekend "end-of-Spanish-programming" preview of next day's schedule) How about for WXTV 41?

  • The '4' in the logo was derived from that of San Juan, P.R. station WAPA-TV; the '7' looks like the late '60's logo for WNAC-TV (now WHDH-TV) in Boston.

  • Thank you! Your comments are always informative and welcome!

  • Much obliged . . . having seen such sign-offs and -ons in my youth come in handy in times like this.

  • I.I.N.M., the announcer who signed-on the station that morning was Jorge Ramos, a longtime anchor at the station (and not to be confused with WXTV/Univision's anchor of the same name). He used to alternate, in the 1980's, with fellow co-anchor Eusebio Valls in signing off (and possibly also signing on) WNJU. It was also not long after they moved from their old studios at 1020 Broad Street in Newark.
