If this was played in school, i would go every day with a smile on my face, ready to discuss and talk about how the society is doing, how to help, etc. We need more movies like these, that help us understand the world a little better and the people in it, btw you can't stay quiet when they win the trophie, have to shoot your arms in the sky and go HELLLLL YEAH!!!
People don't realize that full scale genocide was practiced by the English against the Irish. My own clan once experienced a massacre of over a thousand. It was just much harder to murder the Irish before the English obtained guns.
jolly okot! i know her! (1:19) for all you invisible children supporters--this is "the bottle cap lady" who is basically the mother of IC. god. so beautiful.
Hey everyone bitching about america and socialism and slavery, thats not what this moive is about, at all. Its about kids in the war ravaged country of Uganda. Something that all of you are lucky enough NOT to have experienced.
so SHUT THE FUCK UP with all your political whining.
the movie look beautiful..i have to get my mitts on it...has anyone here ever been to africa..id like to go one day for a month or so..but im a little ignorant to which part is safe or unsafe.
This movie should make all Black Americans shiver with gratitude. These kids go to school and learn and value education, in the MOST DIRE situations imaginable, often orphaned, with no shoes, torn clothes, horrific experiences in their past which American kids could never fathom. Instead, the black 'leaders' teach American blacks to be 'victims' for their entire lives. These kids know REAL poverty and misery, unlike their black counterparts in the US. As here, it's BLACKS killing BLACKS too!
I must say BoEmery, I absolutely love that comment, it's very very true, I grew up in Russia and seen poverty and what war looks like and didn't have the privileges found in USA. Americans have so much at their disposal and don't take advantage of it. Majority is very spoiled, rude and jaded. Everybody should visit a 3rd world country to get their perspective in order. With so much information available nobody should be ignorant, uneducated and rude to other brothers and sisters.
Thank you. I'm white in America, so I know I have an advantage from the start, however, my 'people' were the first 'slaves' here, the Irish. But the one factor that has served to eliminate poverty universally is education, and blacks in America get access to free education, yet don't utilize it as they should, instead idolizing rappers, ball players, etc. If these kids had the opportunities their counterparts in America do, they'd all be doctors, lawyers, etc. They're GRATEFUL for school.
Really? Black people can go to post-secondary school free just because of their skin colour? When did this happen?
The fact that you just compared discrimination against the Irish to slavery and genocide is not only offensive, but in the end laughable. Not to mention the fact that the first large waves of Irish emigration began just before slavery had finished, nearly 300 years after it began.
Can you verify that the Irish were the first Slaves here cause I thought the first slaves in America were documented in 1560's I know they werent Irish.
This movie is so amazing, I believe it was such a realistic depiction. Not sugar coated...but atthe same time shows how amazing the people and children of Potonga are.....It just reminds me of a scripture in the bible where it says the last will be the first and the first will be the last.
I look forward to the day these beautiful black people with all of the attrocities that are branded in their minds become the first.
This is such an amazing movie... it made me cry... we watched it in Economics class. My Ec teacher's boyfriend sang a song for the film and so she got to meet the three children of whom this documentary is about.
Thank you. May we all become the Collaboration that protects the future. I do not know about you but I do not want to be the one looking back 10 or even a year from now and say... Will that Ever Change? NO! I want to see change today. What stone is afraid to be turned. What does it take to make this happen Today. SOLUTIONS WE WANT SOLUTIONS NOT PROMISES> ARE YOU WITH ME> Lets Do it together.. Collaboration Cures Crisis.,
I hope viewers learn to look beyond the propaganda and get the real story. There's no feel-good reality in Uganda right now, though this film approaches the simplistic formula of storytelling that Americans love so much.
There's no feel-good reality anywhere. We're all doomed to an existence of misery and debasement and that's why 'escapism' exists- to provide us with temporary relief instead of a permanent solution. Thanks, global capitalism!
this is a pretty stupid and insipid comment. You're probably a spoiled, over-privileged white kid who would only know 'sacrifice' if they looked it up in the dictionary. Instead of complaining about that which you know not, take your useless life and focus it toward others, b/c you obviously don't know how to live it.
What the hell is your problem? What does the moral position of altruism vs. individualism have to do with what I said about escapism and the West's view of Africa? I was merely stating that xposeuganda's view that there was no feel-good reality was only half-right. And, I'll have you know I'm a Communist, and altruism is the most basic moral standing of that belief. So save the speech for an Objectivist, you clown.
Yeah, right, Communist, they're the EPITOME of charity! That's why people are smuggled out of China every day, or float to Miami from Cuba, etc.! You're probably an ultra-liberal too, and probably post from your MAC while driving a Volvo, drinking Starbucks and complaining all the while about big corporations! Just so typical of leftists to complain and be negative when they so often have never lived with real deprivation. Be grateful, and get out of yourself! Do something for others!
Only a fucking liberal would say the things you do. And communists are usually just extreme liberals. In fact, I'm quite sure that if you were born in the USA, you voted for Obama, and are drooling over our descent into Socialism, then hoping for the next step. By the way, have you ever had a job? You sound like a lifetime student who's spent entirely too much time reading books and not enough on the playground. While I understand your language, it is not how normal people communicate.
"communists are usually just extreme liberals" *head desk*
1) I'm Canadian 2) I don't support Obama 3) The fact that you compare socialism and liberalism is comical, as is the fact that you capitalised "socialism", probably means that you know everything you do about it from watching Glenn Beck. Nothing Obama has done is socialist in the least. I'm 20, I've been working for 7 years, I did a brief stint in the military, and I'm living in Germany right now on a work visa.
@ pinkfloyd...you are wrong. He nationalized the auto industry and wants to nationalize the health care industry. If that's not socialism, nothing is. We don't want to be another Canada.
@moejeffreys No, he bailed the banks out with taxpayer money, but they are not publicly owned, an act which Bush also green-lit a year previous. Are you saying Bush is a socialist as well? Maybe if you nationalised your health system then you wouldn't be the shame of the Western world. Tell me why Canada ranks significantly higher in terms of world health systems, and why Sarah Palin prefers to get her treatments here?
@moejeffreys Thanks for completely disregarding my point. I'll ask you this: when the banks and all the corporations that were bailed out earn a profit, will that profit go to the public trust? I think not. Although I will say I was mistaken; Canada is not SIGNIFICANTLY higher, only 7 spots above. But yes, you should be proud of the U.S.' health care system. At least you're better than Slovenia! Not quite up to the standard of Costa Rica, sadly.
@p1nkfl0yd - GM is under the control of the government. That is socialism. You changed the subject and started a rant about health care, and our health care is really none of your business since you do not live in the United States. We have the best doctors in the world, bar none. I am quite happy with the health care I get. No waiting lists...no denials of service...and it is affordable. The bottom line is this...it's none of your business. You don't live in this country.
And...Bush did not bail out the auto industry. That was Obama and his democrat pals. They are idiots. I don't care what Sarah Palen does or does not do...but I have never heard of ANYBODY from the United States going to Canada for ANYTHING relating to health care. No reason to...the best doctors and the best medical care is right here in the United States. It doesn't matter what some leftwing board says...they measure the quality of health care not on service, but on how socialist you are.
These comments are meant to be about the movie, and a wonderful movie at that. Would you mind keeping your judgments about others who post here, and their views, to yourself? Let us express our opinions please, free from your vitriol.
