Please Joe I plead with!! Either get rid of Sammy Hagar in CHickenfoot or leave them yourself!!! You have worked your butt off at getting a respectable name by your own yet how you can be making music with a cringe worth singer like Sammy Hagar is mind blowing. Your music is too great to be ruin by & person that'll never recover being ex-wife to VH. King EVH got rid of SH for one reason, he wasn't doing the music justice & treated everything as a side project to his 'who cares' solo career.
@maneatingtoilets Yes, he smokes pot, he's an evil person who needs to die (< the typical response from someone who is anti-pot) I am joking of course, I love Joe's music.
Cool that he gives such a respect to Hendrix--my favorite rock guitarist. Joe would be second. First song I heard by him was "Flying in a Blue Dream"--it sounded so awesome I was permanently hooked on his music.
I discovered Joe Satriani in 1990 with Flying in a Blue Dream. That and Steve Vai's Passion and Warfare changed the direction of my musical tastes. I NEEDED those albums that year and they came into my life when things were really bad. Their music saved my life and sanity. Without this guy, there would be no Steve Vai as we know him today. Their art makes life more beautiful and hopeful.
I just finished watching the interviews of Joe Lynn Tyler and it was great! Now i'm watching Joe Satriani's interviews and they are really awesome! Thanks for posting! Great work! Greetings from Greece!
I did the exact same thing hearing Hendrix for the first time when I was about 8. I heard puple haze and was like "WOW what the heck is that" and my uncle tossed on the album and said "thats Jimi Hendrix!" I then started playing guitar at age 13 and have never really put it down.
i dont know much about satriani and his music but he seems pretty fuckin smart and rad.. i wanna pick his brain about guitar; think evry guitarist/musician would want too.
the first time i heard steve vai i was mesmerized just like joe was when he heard hendrix. a few years later i hear joe for the first time and i was equally if not more mesmerized. both steve and joe taught me more about myself through listening to thier music than i knew. it was just so cool to hear them and think yeah i wanna make beautiful music too. with any luck one day i will.
@Beat7TV the hendrix song that first inspired him was "the wind cries mary." he said it in some other series of interviews, i dont remember which (sorry)
The list is weird because Joe Satriani born 1956, Eric Johnson born 1954, Randy Rhoads born 1956, Eddie Van Halen born 1955, and Zakk Wylde born 1967? He's definitely from a different era.
I F'ing love satch he's my favorite guitarist. and lately i've been tryin to write satchesque type stuff, but heres my problem i've listened to surfing with the alien to prof. satchafunkilus but i have a severe case of writers block. any suggestions?
The only thing keeping Keith Richards together is Alcohol and cigarettes... its the tar and nicotine acting as a solvent keeping his body immediately turning to dust!
Dude I saw him wearing a GnR t-shirt, and this was recently, I mean Slash sounds great but he couldnt even tune Satch's guitar...and Satch wears the t-shirt becouse he digs the music... no ego just a musician acknoledging anothers style...
THANK YOU JOE FOR admitting that you are a part of the awesome shredding generation!! Some people are ashamed!! Steve Vai, (Who you mentioned) Has denounced himself as a shred guitarist. It is ok to be a shred guitarist, they are usually the best musicians
Hendrix was a first, that can never be taken away, no matter who u r or where in time the range and colors of electric guitar were expanded with him, so even if u dont like the tunes what u play in rock has origins with him, chuck berry, vanhalen, clapton etc
see, he says hendrix is an influence, personally i cannot stand hendrix ... i think i may be the only person who thinks that lol ... but satch zakk and vai all them sorta guitarists are my influence ... i spose therefore i owe hendrix a lot
I hate that all the good music is dying. Not the music is dying, but the artists. AC/DC, Zepellin, Satriani etc.etc, good true rock n roll, they are all in there 60;s :( im glad AC/DC is doing one last tour even though they are in their 60's or around there, but its sad to think they are done for good after this :(
That last comment proved what Hendrix said all along. Though I'm no where close to Satch's playing, it happened to me the exact same way.
The first time I heard Hendrix, something just happened and opened me up and i'm one yr younger than Satch.
Hendrix said they played loud because they wanted their music to go into the soul of a person instead of just the ears. That is SO true. That's why i said i don't think there'll ever be a person as connect to an instrument as JH was.
It's like all these great Guitar Heroes have such Musical families. I mean my parents support me and they like my playing, but we ae not musical at all. My dad is good with home recording though, so that's cool. Him, Vai, Yngwie's family is chock full of musicians, including his kids.

It quite bizarre actually. But I'm glad it happened to me too.
