  • I live in england but would love you to clip my shih tzu! your so kind them most groomers just drag the clippers along them that's why I do my dog myself, you amazing!!

  • I think you do an awesome job! I completed grooming school and am working at a salon, but not for pay yet. Your videos have taught me more than anything I have learned so far. It's hard to learn how to do heads especially! I need some words of encouragement, because I don't have confidence in myself and this is so much my passion!!! Keep up the great work!

  • Love ur video, the cut isn't something I would like on my dog. From the look of China she needs to be cut that short all over since it appears she's a matted up mess! :( I hate it when ppl don't take care of their dogs no matter what the reason it just ticks me off. You're doing a fantastic job though and I'm going to watch the rest of your videos.

  • i need to let you see my Honey (Shih tzu that almost died as a pup, her mask is incredible) see my better vid here on YouTube) she's the gold and white one.

  • step 1: plug in the electric trimmer.

step 2: run the trimmer all over the dog's boday, removing the fur.

  • if it is not matted what blade do you use on the body?? thanks

  • @Jessicague315 You can use whatever blade you like on your dog if it's not matted. ;) You can watch my video on clippers and blades and it will show you the different blades. ;)

  • Looks more like a Lhasa Apso to me...

  • @Zacmosai b/c Lhasa Apso and Pekingese were mated to make Shih Tzu

  • What blade are you using on the face? I heard the 40 around the eyes, but what about the rest of the face? Thanks! Love the videos. They've helped me out a lot. Just started to groom my 15 almost 16 year old Shih Tzu myself.

  • @bbblueyz I am using a 10 or 15 on her face. Good luck on your little guy! ;)

  • how did you learn to cut a shih tzu's hair??? i would suck at it! so could you tell me???

  • @bigBrude41 Been a professional dog groomer for almost 9 years now. I guess I just learned on the job and at Atlanta pet fair in Atlanta Georgia. Then I went to another expo in Kansas City MIssouri... that is how I learned to groom all the dogs I groom. :)

  • Great video, very helpful, thanks! Off to watch your other ones.

  • Hi there nice video, can u teach me how to clean my Shih Tzu hair around her eye and chin coz my doggy got tear stain and also his chin fur is turning red due to drinking from bowl. Thanks in advance

  • @nwl213 When bathing a Shih Tzu's face you must be careful not to get soap in their eyes and not to get too much water in their mouths or in their noses. Since those are all right there in a tight little spot, I suggest you bath you Shih Tzu's face with a warm soapy wash cloth, when done scrubbing the wrinkles and the face, rinse the wash cloth and wipe the soap off the dogs face, do this several times and be sure to leave NO soap behind especially pay close attention to the wrinkles!

  • Lol cute dog, but the lighting is a little dark.

  • i BOUGHT A Shih tzu... I GOT SCAMMED... THIS DOG IS MORE SHIH T than ZU.. :O(

  • Which one will be the ideal blade size for grooming mated fur on a shitzu?

  • @Chamozovitala Probably a 7 or 5 blade, depending on how matted. If the coat is really close to the skin then I would suggest a 7, if it is a little grown out from the skin you could get away with a 5. Good luck!

  • poor girl!

  • She is so well behaved for such a scary experience. I'm about to get a rescue dog from my girlfriends sisters work. I am just getting a sense of what I'm in for lol. Thanks for the video.

  • That is a really smart and nice dog to sit there so still and let you groom her face like that!

  • Great video

  • can i use scissors for this whole process?

  • @mariadiyaria I don't recommend it... sissors give an entiley different look however if you dog won't tolerate clippers then it may be necessary just to get him/her more comfortable and get the matts and extra hair off. ;)

  • i leran a lot ...ty but next timer better if you put more lite.

    ty anyway

    .

  • cute dog:)

  • Floyd is giving me the mean eye while I'm watching this thinking up ways to wiggle away when I get ready to groom his face. His main problem areas being the stomach and face, plus Floyd being a rescue dog, God only knows what was done to him before he came to me. I just try to be patient with him, reassure him and mostly love him. Thanks for the videos as I have learned a lot from your instructions. You have my highest admiration!

  • @shell236 Thank you! Thanks for rescueing your little guy and I hope he learns to tolerate it for you. ;) Bless his little heart, there really is no telling what these little guys go through before we save them sometimes. :)

  • I tried to do this look on my dog and she just would not stay still. I tried giving her treats but that didnt work either what should i do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I REALLY NEED HELP

  • @MaKeUpAdDiCt15 either you can get someone to help hold while you do this... or you can just take your dog to a professional groomer. If they are extremely frightened of the clippers or sissors it may be safer to have someone else do it. Good luck!

  • this video helped me out alot.I have 6 shihtzus and am doing all my own grooming.I have little knowledge on the subject and found your video very helpful in regards to the face area.Nice job,and China is VERY well behaved

  • i cant see move ur arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrm

  • Hey, you try grooming, explaining, video taping, and keeping your arm out of the way all on your own! LOL

  • lol

  • I think you did great!

  • @lilmunky11 Thanks! :)

  • wow shes such a good dog!! my dog wiggles, squirms and trys to escape.

  • wow great video.. =) wat would u do about knots or mats around the paws??

  • Honestly I would sissor them out and not worry about it. The hair wil grow back and I just think dematting toes sounds painful LOL :) Thanks for the comment! :)

  • thanks so much.. now my dog doesnt like to be cut/shaved so how do i calm him??

  • Thanks for posting your video... it is very useful and informative... one more question.... what blade size do you use for the paws?

  • I use a #40 for the paw pads. Thanks for the question. ;)

  • Thanks for your response... I saw your other video with regards to the clippers and blades. I am still new to this grooming stuff so please bear with me. What blade size would you recommend for his tummy area?

  • Hi... I would like to know what type of clippers are you using in the video... which ones do you recommend? Also for the winter time, how short do you think I should cut my shih tzu's hair? What blade size should I use?

  • Hi there, please watch my "Clippers and Blades" video for clipper recommendations. That video also explains the blades and lengths. As far as what size you should use, that is entirley up to you. It is a personal preference and you will just have to try a few different lengths and find out wich works best for you. ;) Hope this helps. Thanks!

  • aw she is such a good dog

  • Yes she sure is! :) Thanks for the nice comment. :)

  • thats looks horrid,... poor little thing

  • Do you mean before or after I groomed her? I hope you mean before... because she looks much better after I'm done in part three or four...

  • i personally dont like it that short,........

  • That is fine. This dog was matted and the owner can't afford to get her done often so for economic and comfort reasons we keep her dogs short. I really don't think she looks horrid. That is after all how the dog looks with short hair, if you love the breed you should love it long or short. She is certainly not poor. I gave her a very nice hair cut and I think it was a bit rude of you to post what you did. Many owners like their Shih Tzu short. Thank you for your kindness... not so much!

  • dont put yourself on here for all to see if you cant take criticism. Im allowed my opinion.

  • I didn't come on here for your opinion. I came on here to help honest hard working people who want to learn how to groom their own dog. I didn't ask you to give your dog this hair cut nor did I ask for you to watch my video! Please don't come back to any of my video's or channels. I am here for people who wish to learn not be rude. ;) Have a nice day. and may God bless you.

  • We have five and must learn how to do our own grooming or go broke. I am fearful of doing their face, especially around their eyes and I am also concerned about clipping their nails our of fear of hurting them. How do I learn how to do this? Do my wife and I practice on each other?

  • I have a couple of face videos on just watch those for around the eyes, as for the toe nails, I will try to get a good video for you but it is hard with my camera, it doesn't want to focus in that close. If I can't get a video you should just have your vet or a groomer show you how in person. Human nails aren't the same as dog nails so it wouldn't work to practice on each other. ;)

  • Hi there.

How do you get your dog used to being groomed around the face? My little pup hates his face being touched and hates the sound of clippers. Any ideas? Thanks for the videos :)

  • Thank you so much for making these videos. I've studied all three of your videos on grooming a shih tzu several times before I groomed my shih tzu Oscar today. Thanks to your easy to understand instructions I was able to give Oscar a pretty nice looking cut like the groomer does without the $55.00 price tag. Thanks a bunch!!!

  • Glad you liked them! Thanks for the nice comment. :)

  • After watching yr many many vid on grooming, u motivated me to try to do my own on my 2 shih tzus. I bravely bought a pro cutter a cheaper version :) it comes with 2 blades no 3mm,6mm,9mm,12mm. I used it yday & now my shih tzus hair look layered by layered chop off. gosh ! me terrible cutter. So I quickly turn on yr vid. Could u explain how n which direction shd we go with the machine . tks.

  • Well I hate to say it but it is probably your clipper that is making the dog look that way. When cutting your dogs hair you always want to follow the direction the coat is growing. ie back and down basically. ;) Hope this helps, Good luck! :)

  • my shih tzu wont sit still for that he hates the clippers near his facehes 8 months...any suggestions

  • The only thing I can say is don't give up, keep on with the repetition and he will eventually get used to it. If you have a mens shaver you can try getting him used to it while you are sitting on the couch relaxing. Just use the back end of the shaver and massage your dog all over including the face, just get him used to the feel and sound of the clipper vibration. Good luck, hope he calms down for you soon.

  • My Shih Tzu has a lot of tangles. Should I just trim her, and cut them off, or just shave her bald?? HELP! I just got her, she's my first dog, so I have no experience!

  • I would honestly suggest shaving her if she is too matted to brush out. It is the least painful process and it just lets you start over fresh with the coat. Good luck!

  • what would you recomend to do with a dog thats matted in her coat please i really need help

  • I would shave a dog if it was matted. Like a #7 or #10 blade would be the safest. It is easier to shave them then to brush it out and much less painful/stressful. :) Good luck!

  • That's adorable - you were very gentle with the dog, who seemed almost to enjoy it at times. What kind of blade was it and what kind of clipper? I don't have a dog, but was considering a shih tzu sometime in the future.

  • Thanks, China does enjoy it! I use Andis two speed clippers and the blade length differ depending on how long you want your dogs coat to be... This hair cut was done with a #5 blade. I will send you a video on blades and clippers. ;)

  • can't see nothing.....you need better light..

  • thank you for sharing, i'm learning and your instruction really helps.

  • Thanks you are very welcome, good luck on the learning! :)

  • What clippers are you using ?

  • Can you answer this please, how do you have him staying still like that?! My Shih tzu freaks out. By the way when people are complaining about the light they can see it's just not that much light. This was a great video thank you!

  • Me too I could not see! I Think you need better lighting around you!

  • I know I do but I don't have any... :( Sorry. Hope it helped you at least a little bit.

  • I love the way you are with the dog and how you talk to her....I just wish I could see a little better...Do you think you will have anymore videos of shih tzu that are not shaved and just cut like a rounded face and so on......Thanks

  • Thank you that is very nice of you to say. ;) I already have a round face on my channel but it is hard to see cuz that Shih Tzu is kinda squirmy. I will try to get it video'd soon with a different calmer Shih Tzu. Subscribe to my channel and keep checking in to see. I will try to remember to send you a message when I get it up. Glad it helped you, thanks for the comment. :)

  • you should get some more light its kinda hard to see

  • yes I know I am working on that but haven't come up with a solution yet. :D Sorry, hope it helps a little.
