No one ever says how to physically connect the drum kit to the computer. (wich cables, ect.)My dtxplorer only has midi out for example, but all the midi to usb cables i see have in and out. How do you connect a module with midi out to a laptop? What hardware?
@TheGooch1972 well i suppose it is natural as most of the people are more interested in what the deal is with the software front. anyway the answer to your queestion is you would need a midi cable (could utilizea midi2usb as well if you do not have a separate sound interface and are planning to use your computer's sound card) and the drum brain (since it is producing the midi signals) is your output so connect the cable to it's midi-out if you have an in as well. most brains don't
@TheGooch1972 since your computer is the one which you would use to process the midi signals produced by your drums, connect the other end to its midi-in. if it is a usb2midi cable you would be utilizing your sound card's processing power to make use of the signals and if it is a sound interface with midi compatibility, it would certainly have a midi in connection so you connect the midi cable directly to that. the interface could be a usb or a firewire one doesn't matter for midi
@TheGooch1972 as it would be responsible to process the midi signals and convert and send it to the computer with whatever connection it has with the computer. however a midi2usb cable is simply a usb cable used as a converter for connection with one end usb connector and the other a female midi input for your midi cable coming from your drums' output to be able to connect. hope this helps. cheers.
