In the 60's members of motorcycle gangs had riding boots made with an all steel heel. Since these boots have a fairly high heel for riding, this is where the song comes from. At night the bikers would turn off their headlights and drop their feet with heels forward and sparks would stream out from both sides of the bikes letting each other know where they were in the dark. Hence "The Low Sparks of High Heel Boys". GOOD TIMES!!!!
Rock and Rollers stand up and unite. We must demand songs that play longer than 3:05 so that the artist can give us works of art like this one, not something they had to cut to fit in between commercials. We did it once and we can do it again. Join me by writing to the record company's and raisin hell. We need a new wave out there, we older folks need help to carry on the battle. There is power in numbers, and they all start with one.
Love this song man. Very, very cool. The type of song you listen to after a long day...bottle of guinness, maybe a joint and just mellow the f*ck out man.
@ClovisYutz I keep forgetting, it's a new century. It's only been ten years, gimme a break! In my last post, I should have written "there was smooth jazz back to the turn o' the [20th] Century". All apologies.
@ClovisYutz true that.... but this is a truly great jazz piece.... i was in a navy brig when this came out.... i had my father send me this album... and the pointer sisters... first album....
To the musicians out there what are the last two chords the the distorted organ plays at the end of this, at 5.53 and then the last chord at 5.57. Man that is just awesome and I have to play it ( know it) I even bought a guitar pedal to get that sound however I am thinking it just might be a few amps hooked together I remember this solo from 71 and look I am just now getting to it. In my research someone said it is a Farfisa but they didn't know the distortion path.
@justedd1 It sounds too much like a wind instrument to me, like Chris Wood put his sax or an oboe through some wicked distortion, or he was playing some uncredited instrument with a electrified reed. I've heard the same instrument sound in songs as varied as "Black and White" by Three Dog Night and the theme to the game show "The $10,000 Pyramid". That said, if it is indeed a Farfisa organ or whatever, I'll be satisfied to know definitively.
@chemicalcarlos the web site song facts has this:In answer to - Carlos, Chicago, IL: the instrument on the closing of 'Low Spark'is a Farfisa organ. From The Farfisa brand name is commonly associated with a series of compact electronic organ, and later, a series of multi-timbral synthesizer."That distinctive sound was heard on a lot of albums at the time. Probably like the mellotron- an instrument of it's time. I haven't heard it on anything in recent years.

@justedd1 That dissonant chord at the end is haunting. If anyone remembers this song at all they will remember that chord.
