A day in the life of a soviet city...I printed my own poster for this film about 15 years ago. By the way, two nights ago I just saw Marc Ribot in san francisco do the live soundtrack to Chaplin's The Kid. Just him. And it was great. (march 2011)
Currently writing a paper on the film so thank you for making it available. I've now seen it with two different soundtracks. What I would like to see is a version with some type of electronic music!
whats really interesting is that the woman we see cutting the negatives was Vertovs wife and also the editor, we are seeing the process of film making as a film within a film which the audience are watching. complex stuff for the early days of cinema. i think this is a masterpiece and a great thing to sit in the dark and watch with big speaks :P
Yeah, thanks very much for making this available, fennitch. I saw them performing this last Friday in the Roundhouse, London - very strong show, and even though I knew and loved the music in advance, it gains a whole new layer of meaning combined with the moving image.
Fascinating. I wonder if any of those people are still alive, maybe one of the babies we saw at the beginning?

The choice of repetitive music a la Philip Glass + the extra fast visual content is highly reminiscent of KOYAANISQATSI

That music is positively dreadful. Ruins a brilliant and daring film by making it wallpaper to kitsch jazz. Thank God for volume controls.

I too had to shut off the speakers after a few minutes. If only the music were a tenth as daring as the film!
