Lived round corner from grafton, loved since housemartins. Read last orders at liar's bar, and think Paul Heaton is a musically gifted genious. No wing near Pearson peirdo or stalker but last I knew he was living near Pearson park [may explain a lot ie stone island]
love love love this song. when people hear it they think i could write this, but they didn't think of it. they do it brillantly, everyone knows someone like old red eyes
Totally agree with alternatereality85.This is an great example of both Paul Heatons songwriting and his skill in producing hardhitting personal vidoes.Same with A Little Time.Awesome.Its hard to imagine todays wannabees producing gems like this, because its all done for them.Very sad for music
great tune, great lyrics, good message - and yes, a bit autobiographical from heaton, no doubt. Also, makes you check yourself for overindulgence - cos it's essentially a sad story.
Paul Heaton should have been an actor, too. I think this video, combined with the video for "My Book" proves that he could have successfully filled any part a director threw at him.
Great song, along with 36D which I just watched. Forgot about them for a while and was watching The Housemartins Caravan of Love and saw their Beautiful South's name on a can of soup in the video. Funny that.
I read an interview with Paul Heaton years ago in which he said he realised he wasn't really going to the pub for beer, he was going for the social interraction with his mates. I assume this video, and maybe the song itself too, is about what would have happened had he not quit the booze.
Autobiographical maybe? You can fool some of the people all of the time and all of the people some of the time. But if you're an alcoholic you ain't foolin' no one...
obviously someone was let down by the education system and can't spell. That would be Thatcher, meant and perhaps cleanse for a bit of rhyme but I get your drift!
What a great tune. Video doesn't give the song justice but agree with alternatereaility85 in that its a great piece of songwriting. Speaks to me about so many alkis I have met in my time in the world.
i disagree with you about the video. I think it's very good. it's a shame the volume of this vid is so low, because it is REALLY very good. he does drunk VERY well, don't you think? lol
Old red eyes probably has given a few songwriters green eyes of jealousy. Genius just doesn't cover this great piece of songwriting. The band were a national treasure and I don't think the nation realised it.
my mates mum looks exactly like paul heaton

They are only red from all the years of growing up under thacthers fascist regime.
They are only red from from being let down by Blairs fucking mess. From which Brown was ment to clean.
So when you look into these eyes, i hope you realise they will still never vote blue.
