Being as obnoxious as I am, i want to project my obnoxious opinion. I want to preface this with: what you have is perfect. I want to suggest a variation. I would have gone for bigger. And I would would not have added the compost or woodchips unless I had lots of it to get rid of.
Skip the paper and for those that don't have all that stuff to put on top it is ok..it just takes longer to break down..this is all about the long run patience pays off here!!
but dont like the newspaper in the ground. It may seal off the soil.
and newspaper does contain mineral oil and pray your carboard does not come from china. Next there is no compost or leaves added over the logs, the manure to go over the woodchips.
The examples of Hugelbeets that originated in Europe have a "recipe"
deviating from this may not be a good thing.
More soil on top will help , you need a foot or so of soil on top.
@gurdonark - thanks for making the tunes available. It was a lot of work to match every picture to the beat, but worth it.
@pgm98387 - We're planning to plant it up with annuals, we've already got kale started. Winters here are too cold to grow year round without cover but we'll definitely get some more cool season crops in with whats left of the growing season. The first season might be a little less productive but later on it's going to pop!
I see a lot videos on building the beds but no proof it works.

Well, 2 minutes of photos, 20 people. Looks great but will take me 3 weeks to do by myself :)

Do you have to wait a season before planting. Is that for a winter crops?
Just curious what your going to plant in that pile?

great job matching image to beat. Hugelkultur looks like a great way to help deal with sporadic rain conditions.
