@MrGlassAddict Majority of the LED units are "rubbish" that you can find on the market. They think that just any red or blue lights will work, but its the color spectrum and wavelengths that matter. You have to have Leds that around 660nm for veg state and blues around 440 nm for flowering. Of course it is a smart idea to have some in between. AndI agree the prices of already put together grow lights are outrasgeous, but you have to keep in mind they last approximetly 5-8 years without dyin.

you need a new light after it starts getting bigger, are you using grow flourescent bulbs? cause if you dont its the wrong spectrum. what strain is it? if the plant at anytime develops anything that looks like a seed or nuts get rid of it

plants only use two colors of the spectrum true red its like 450-470nm which is like summer and true blue which is 660nm which is like winter he needs to move the lights farther down so they dont stretch led wont singe your plant i personally would start with less blue and a month and a half before flowering (estimate) gradually add more blue with little red than completly blue

plants uses the amount of red light available to regulate flowering. the more red light there is, the closer to winter the plant thinks it is. the blue spectrum is used for the vegetative growth and is needed in smaller quantities throughout flowering, not the other way around.

and plants dont use only red and blue. they use orange as well, just not that much of it. the only part of the light spectrum that plants dont use is the green/yellow. everything else is used, some more than others

Completely safe. The only thing you have to worry about is the heat from the lamps, which is minimal, actually burning the plant.

Wait, do LEDs produce the same spectrum of light and heat that plants need? I know the High Pressure Sodium lights do indeed work, but they take up lots of power and make lots of heat.

Christmas tree lights?!Jesus! Right. You ideally want 100 watts of L.E.D.light per m2in a ratio of 4 red to 1 blue. 1w led's currently deliver the best lumen/watt ratio at 35-40w per diode. Expect to have to pay between 3 and 4 dollars/£1.50-£2 per led. Hi power led's have very specific currant needs, DC led drivers are needed.The cheapest i've yet found is from 'Besthongkong' on the i-net. Outlay is high but the reward is derisory power bills and negligible heat and condensation problems.

leds dont penetrate very far. Therefore you have to put the lights right up to the leaves. It is not currently a good source if you soley rely on the leds. It is good to add leds with a more high powered light such as a hps or MH.
