Singapore Airlines welcomes Qantas' A380 into Singapore and onwards to London Heathrow but Qantas won't let Singapore Airlines A380 fly to Los Angeles via Sydney. Unfair!
@asianboi29 what? Singapore Airlines doesn't own Changi airport and Qantas doesn't own Los Angeles. Qantas is the only A380 service into the US because of federal restrictions on other airlines, not the airlines itself.
has any one been on a380 yet can some one tell me if it feels alot different then a 747 and whats the turbulence like on it does it have more or less or is it pretty much the same ?? cheers !
Your right abmyrrh, there is problems with the A380 at LAX because the airport is quite cramped, it has nothing to do with the plane or Qantas itself. The reason why EK pulled out of JFK with A380 services is because there wasn't as much demand as they thought to support the service, and also because markets where YYZ where they were only allowed 3 services per week on the route but not aircraft restrictions due to the Canadian governments restrictions made them operate DXB-YYZ with the A380.
Just a theory...all the horror stories about QF A380 seem to be on the ex LAX sector. QF flies the A380 to LHR via SIN, yet you don't often hear stories in the media about delays on those sectors. Perhaps the fault is not so much about the plane as it is about the ability of the airport (LAX) to facilitate the aircraft? Maybe there is a good reason why SQ does not fly their A380 to the US, and that EK has pulled their A380 from the DBX/JFK sector? Thoughts anyone?
Wow man, thanks for that! I felt like I was on that seat, seeing that wing in the air. Its beautiful to watch an aircraft leave the sky to ground. You gave the full experience, should of made a part #2 taxi to the gate, would have loved to watch that.
Shame that Thai don't use A380s. I live in Stockholm and often use Thai to Sydney because it is the fastest route (747-400 + a340-600). I would lose 5 hours if I travelled through London.
Actually, the amount of ships, it's little. In other videos, there's a battalion of them. From 5:35 onwards, you could see the shadow of the A380, at around 1000 to 1500 ft, is actually bigger than the oil tankers and ships moored below. That's freaky.
Yes, but with SIA you have to get off and change, not with Qantas, so therefore Qantas is the certain option between Sydney and London, but if you travel FROM or TO Singapore, this is a competition
@TheDokaDoka nope! Qantas work with BA on this route, and its very profitable for them since the OZs and the Brits prefer to fly with QF/BA rather than SQ. only SE Asians fly SQ.
It shows with Qantas deploying their A380s for both flights (QF9 and QF31) between SIN-LHR and BA's A380 to follow in 2013.
As an experience traveler A380 wise, QF wins in product design & comfort overall. The lounge in every classes R top notch, the "Y" & "J" R very comfy compared to SQ who wins only in "F" & services
@Chaialenor Were you in economy class? I really want to fly on the Qantas A380 but I've had bad experiences with Airbus. Could you lean against the wall to sleep?
Hey, yeah i was unfortunately... the overall experience is similar to other aircraft, but at the same time there's a novelty to it that means I'm going to fly it every chance i get, as for space to lean against the wall... outbound i leant against the wall a lot and had no real problems (and I'm reasonably tall) on the way back however i realized the head rest adjusted and i used that instead so down to preference, but at the end of the day economy is economy.
@Chaialenor Thank you. Qantas is going to upgrade their 747-400 fleet with new Economy seats and I fly often and lean against the wall. So thank you.
normally we called it spoilers tho.The reasons that they deployed the spoilers during decending is because to made the speed of the aircraft reduce(decrease) so that the aircraft easier to decend without overspeed limit and remain maintain the speed. If you realise when the aircraft is rolling touchdown and they apply the spoilers 100%(Fully up) and reverse trust too.this because to made the aircraft lands in stable conditon and more efficiently in stopping the aircraft. :)
ok i was sitting in 54 before so would have engines, but changed to 70 really want flaps, hope its close enough to the center, yeah wonder if u can see the wing from the top havnt seen any pictures from there
and yes im singaporean, just that im studying in aust at the moment......so singapore airlines.....wake up ur fucking idea and create a better first class product !!!
ive flown on the Singapore airlines A380 to london first class before. to be very honest, i prefer the qantas A380 product better than Singapore Airlines
When you say it is the inaugural landing into Singapore, did it not leave Sydney, stopover ifirst n Singapore enroute to London and then hop back....like a kangaroo of course!!!
Whoa, that really IS a lot of ships. Like a whole navy's-worth. I mean, I knew Singapore was a large port and all, but I would've never guessed THAT large.

I think Qantas made a bad choice to go to Singapore and London with a380, direct comp. with SIA.
TheDokaDoka 2 years ago 5
Hong Kong would've been a better choice. Its closer to the great circle from SYD to LHR, would've taken less time.
