After doing the Math...I've determined that the work involved and the cost of the materials to do the job myself would only provide me with Max $40 in savings..I'll just buy one from Stormcrow...I was hoping for at least 100 in savings.
I'm going to order my own cuben fiber and attempt to build one of my own...before spring..following SGT Rock directions and a Little help from my pops!!!
hey shug! i do alot of winter camping (down to -30c) normally shelter and on the ground, but I have started into the hammocking thing and quite like it. I have yet to buy under quilts and such, and haven't purchased a roof as light weight as cuben.
just curious what your full pack weight is with food, under quilt etc. on a sold hike. I am heading out for a few days and I just weighed in at 45 lbs.
@simsghost It depends on the particular trip and weather and length of time....but I would say 25 to 28 pounds for a winter trip. I have invested in a good deal of lightweight gear. Weight would go up a bit in sub 0º...
ha! Another excellent review, Shug! Love the quick spanish skit. nice! how many times did you have to throw the tarp to get it to land in the hammock at the end??? ;-)
i was interested in this tarp because you can see through it, but 300 bucks is a bit steap for a student. anyone know of a tarp i can see the canapy thru that doesnt cost so much?
Shug, I don't know how many times I have watched this vid. Love it. Its been awhile since a new vid. How bout a report from Sector 7 ... Whoooo Buddyyyyyy.
"Sector 7, report ..... report in Sector 7. ....... Copy Sector 7 ?" " Darn, he must be in his hammock again." " Controll - over and out." ;~)
My husband and I did buy those tarps! We are big fans of Adam and he made all our quilts too. Gonna change that ridgeline we had. How much cord do you leave for each end of the tarp to tree so I dont shortsheet myself?
Whoooeee! Love yer videos Shug! Hey I got a question...I emailed this company twice to ask questions... never heard back. Got any idea why this might be so?
Yes Summerfest, though they had to duck out yesterday due to the heat. I'm off with him today though so you never know, maybe we'll end up down there again
Great review! I've been looking into just carrying around one of these with my hammock I use for just lounging around camp. I mainly use a tarptent and haven't fully converted to hammocks yet but the more I see these video's, the more I want to. I found this toilet system by applebyoutdoor. love to hear a review!
@shugemery I hear ya on that... when nature calls, you go a run'n. I emailed him about the weight, just the ticks factor alone makes me want one of these things, but not sure if it constitutes the added weight factor...
Hey Shug,Still aint got hammock hiking yet. Found an affordable one that will fit my budget. Thanks for teaching us bout' all this. After my hammock comes I'm gonna watch your hammock for nubes video, its gonna come in handy I'm betting.
.....he's a ginger.....the ginja ninja of hammock awesomeness!!!!!!!!! Good Vid! Not sure about the translucent nature of the tarp, i like to sleep in, don'tcha know!
I have watched many many tarp video reviews. Most of them on this channel. Shug ... I think you have found the perfect tarp. Something only a dedicated hammock hanger could have designed. Excellent. And he is a ginger!
Love all the videos! I got my first hammock (Blackbird Warbonnet) a little over a month ago. I love it. Just had to get another one for my son. I also just got the Maccat tarp and can't wait to use it. The cuban fiber looks great but it will have to wait. Keep the videos coming!
hey Shug, I always wondered how u ended up in Minnesota? There's so many other great outdoor's states like colorado or wyoming. What made you choose Minnesota? Don't get me wrong I love going up to the superior hiking trail for a weekend too though!
Is the process of making cuben fiber labor intensive?...is that why its so expensive. And how hard of rain can it withstand?...that you have encountered.
Any community would be lucky to have you Shug. Somehow, it ended up being the hammock guys. Well, I guess I will have to join. Picking out my first hammock as we chat. Reading your posts on the forums also. Thanks and don't stop.
to be honest Shug 300 is not out of line . There many Cuben fiber tarps smaller than the one u have that are more money. Z pac I must say i do love your Videos silly but also not A good balance and help full to any one lookeing to lighten up there load . So how much would you half to spend to get started in using a hammock set up to lighter than a tent and do they take less room in your pack?
@kcdan1 Well....I watch a lot of backpack videos and just wanted to do them my way. silly it is then.
Cost...depends on the rig. Grand Trunk skeeter Beeters are 60. They have cheaper as well. Or you can spend more depending. My rig takes up around the same as my old tarp tent....not much room though plus they compact.
looks a great tarp but at 300 bucks plus seems mighty expensive for that extra shaved ounce or two of weight, well too expensive for my tastes anyway, dont get me wrong as i have said seems and looks a great and very functional piece of kit but in todays times is $300 asking a bit much?
First off, nice shot. How many takes? // I do know what is light; your wallet, about 300 simoleons. Yeouch! For the present, I'll have to stick to carrying my umbrella and keep sleeping standing up. // It's hard for me to buy anything these days unless I hear the phrase, "But wait, that's not all. If you order in the next..." Wonder why that is.
@lowclasshammock It is like spinntex...more fragile than silnylon or rip-stop. Very tough on the pull but it may poke easily. I'll see I guess. good thing is duct-tape sticks to cuben.
I do not need to watch this video because of the hi tech tarp, I simply like how crazy are you...Best guy on Youtube...Yes better than failblog...Take care Shug...
You were really feeling the announcer voice in this one : )
Believe it or not this is the closest I've come to a cuben fiber tarp. I've never looked at one, mainly because of sticker shock. I wouldn't sleep for a week if I burned a hole in it. Love the superUL weight & the "frosty" look of it.
Wow, Shug, great review. If ALL reviews were done like you did this one, I would gb broke in one day buying everything I saw, having need for the item or not...
Heehee...how many throws did it take to nail that one buddy ? This very informative but funny video is making me want two of them now :o( When does the spending end?...haha ;o) It may be cheaper to continue lifting weights :o) "LIKE"
@Ggreenvideos ... spending never ends, you know - it's a never-ending circle: you earn, buy stuff (e.g. the new Mora butcher knife), you make a review on it, you go broke and back to the start :o)
I want one just because Shug has one . :-) How long are the guide lines using the no tangle? I see you had shock cord on them. Is no tangle slipper like zing it? Love the video. A video Idea is a closer look at your camp chair that everyone had on your trip to the gorge and your pillow.
LOL.... Seriously?.... LOL.... No Seriously?.... I bought 8 blue tarps different sizes and come with gromet holes. 200 plus feet of propolene 1/4" cord.... want to see the water / wind proof ----> What I have named the "White Rhino Tarp House" or WRTH for short.... I'm not kidding..... Cheers.
Nice one Shuggity, Shug, Shug, Shug! I'm all high and I appreciate the new cuban professor character. Find a spot for a lil Pink Floyd and this'll be a masterpiece. ...He's a TALL ginger...
After doing the Math...I've determined that the work involved and the cost of the materials to do the job myself would only provide me with Max $40 in savings..I'll just buy one from Stormcrow...I was hoping for at least 100 in savings.

Nice one Shuggity, Shug, Shug, Shug! I'm all high and I appreciate the new cuban professor character. Find a spot for a lil Pink Floyd and this'll be a masterpiece. ...He's a TALL ginger...
