I was a Russian Orthodox Christian when the pastor (Pavel Fokin) of St. Nicholas Cath here in San Franciso (in the Castro no less) threw me out of parish for being gay. He too is a homosexual, but I quess when you are hiding another homosexual is a threat to you. Fr. Fokin has been transfered to St. Catherine's Russian Orthodox Cath in Rome. I do Buddhist practice now which is far more fulfilling than Christianity has ever been. So continue to make your pronouncements so you get your paycheck.

@edoardoruggeri1 I'm a Christian and we believe in the same God as Islam and Judaism; its not a matter of who's God is better. Same goes for Catholics, Protestants etc.. Tis true, religion is used as a political tool in wars but so is nationality, ethnicity, class type or any sort of common thread of identity. Christianity claims that salvation is offered to all equally, without distinction - and like you, I don't believe you need to be religious in order to be good, or even saved.

It does differ when it comes to spiritual life - that although evolutionary process is true - we are not merely an accident of evolution. We differ from other animals: we can control our primal urges, we are rational self-conscious beings, and because of this we can try to understand a rational universe; otherwise science could not predict anything at all!

And for most of history, religion and science were guided hand in hand (with a few bumps). People believed science was a way of knowing God's mysteries, that He had provided us with an infinitely beautiful universe to explore. Including William of Ockham, Copernicus, Galileo, Francis Bacon to Isaac Newton, Gregor Mendel.. even to Einstein, who believed there had to be a creator.

Science as a discipline feels it can solve everything - religion, other complex subjective matters including art, love, loyalty, empathy, benevolence, sacrifice etc., are more or less burdensome obstacles (Ockham's razor) or will be scientifically resolved in the future. I feel this, similar to religious fundamentalism, is very arrogant.

Including Francis Collins (Human Genome Project), John Lennox (Oxford mathematician, philosopher of science, and an amazing debater), Martin Nowak (Harvard evolutionary biologist) etc. Anthony Flew, leading scientific philosopher and popular atheist (and Dawkins mentor) recently reversed his view on God because of the enormous complexity of DNA.

@edoardoruggeri1 The universe is likened to a cake. Its governed by a rational set of rules; laws of physics, gravity, etc. It has distinct chemical/physical properties; salt, eggs, flour, milk, etc. We are capable of knowing what the cake looks like, tastes like, feels like, reacts etc. However, we will never know why it was made; it wasn't created purposelessly, or by accident.
We can know if the creator reveals/tells us why - but this is why a relationship with God is important.
@teahouse100 Some say that there was nothing, some say other things.. i dunno what's true... but i know that AS NOW we don't yet know with certainty what created it. We, rational people, don't, but you as well religious people, don't. Cauz you don't really any prove that God created the universe. And actually, there is not any proof that god even exists. It's all about faith, and faith is personal. The quantity of people that have that faith doesn't count, numbers don't make truth.
@edoardoruggeri1 In my experience I've always heard the church refer to life as the great mystery. I don't think it claims to have all the answers and its certainly not trying to control people - a central idea in Christianity is free will, and we all make our own choices for better or worse. God isn't a "god of explanation", He's the god of love (though He is proven rationally, absolutely); He is learned by building relationships with others and with God - by good deeds, prayer, scripture etc.
@edoardoruggeri1 Agreed. But please remember that religion is rational. There are very good reasons for believing in God; this isn't a blind faith, after all. There's no proof God doesn't exist either; religious people can equally argue this to an atheist, and claim they are the irrational ones.
@teahouse100 I do not say that religion and science are totally incompatible, because they can be compatible, as long as they stick to their own function. And actually, the probability that a planet like Earth (i.e. where life is possible) exists in the universe is quite high, counting the fact that there are billions of billions of galaxies. And we weren't talkin bout medicine anyway, medicine doesn't interfere with religion in any way (except for some that are forgotten by ages).

Religion can be rational if taken well, with ease. But the world is full of examples of how religion can make you irrational. I personally had direct experience with this a couple of days ago.

I am gay and have also dealt with being unaccepted for who I am. I am now 23 and have never given up my faith in God. I pray to God all the time that Jesus, you know who I am and I cannot be anything else other than myself. I am in a relationship with a man that I love so much. @Cannee18 That verse in Leviticus was mistranslated from the original Hebrew text. What it really says, is a man should not lay with another man in the bed of a woman. Because in Biblical times, a woman's bed was sacred. It was only for her and her husband. So, the verse doesn't condemn homosexual behavior, it just condems having it in a woman's bed.

@Beenkah Jesus never addressed the issue of homosexuality..When we look at scripture we have to look at what Jesus is reported to have said about certain issues as well as what his response was. This is so true ! I'm only 16 and I know I have been gay for as long as I can remember. Coming to terms with it and excepting who I am has actually strengthened my Christianity ! Instead of getting hung up and frustrated over something I can't change, all I want is to live my life with a good and strong faith, hopefully find the right man and get married , maybe even raise some kids:D . Wrong. Bible clearly teaches that marriage between a man and a woman is of God. Even to lust after a woman (or, obviously, a man) is a sin. There is NO room to condone homosexual activity. There are clear condemnations of homosexual activity in the books of Genesis (Sodom and Gomorrah), Leviticus, Deuteronomy, 1 and 2 Kings ("sodomites"), Romans, 1 Corinthians, 1 Timothy, and Jude.7. Homosexuals will need to try finding another argument to support their disordered ways.

@idaman12345 There is a marked distinction between Jewish social law, and the purported absolute moral law according to the Bible. In the New testament of the Bible, it clearly explains that Jesus fulfilled the law, thus Christians are not bound to any of the regulations of Jewish social law. If you had knowledge of said religious text, in historical context, you would easily make the distinction.

I was a Russian Orthodox Christian when the pastor (Pavel Fokin) of St. Nicholas Cath here in San Franciso (in the Castro no less) threw me out of parish for being gay. He too is a homosexual, but I quess when you are hiding another homosexual is a threat to you. Fr. Fokin has been transfered to St. Catherine's Russian Orthodox Cath in Rome. I do Buddhist practice now which is far more fulfilling than Christianity has ever been. So continue to make your pronouncements so you get your paycheck.

And for most of history, religion and science were guided hand in hand (with a few bumps). People believed science was a way of knowing God's mysteries, that He had provided us with an infinitely beautiful universe to explore. Including William of Ockham, Copernicus, Galileo, Francis Bacon to Isaac Newton, Gregor Mendel.. even to Einstein, who believed there had to be a creator.

Science as a discipline feels it can solve everything - religion, other complex subjective matters including art, love, loyalty, empathy, benevolence, sacrifice etc., are more or less burdensome obstacles (Ockham's razor) or will be scientifically resolved in the future. I feel this, similar to religious fundamentalism, is very arrogant.

Its governed by a rational set of rules; laws of physics, gravity, etc. It has distinct chemical/physical properties; salt, eggs, flour, milk, etc. We are capable of knowing what the cake looks like, tastes like, feels like, reacts etc. However, we will never know why it was made; it wasn't created purposelessly, or by accident.
We can know if the creator reveals/tells us why - but this is why a relationship with God is important.

I don't think it claims to have all the answers and its certainly not trying to control people - a central idea in Christianity is free will, and we all make our own choices for better or worse. God isn't a "god of explanation", He's the god of love (though He is proven rationally, absolutely); He is learned by building relationships with others and with God - by good deeds, prayer, scripture etc.

Secondly: if it went against god's plans why was Jesus gay?
Thirdly: let's assume that the book is real...isn't it a bit out of date? 2000+ years seems like a lot to me and times have changed.
In conclusion, obviously being gay goes against nature (for obvious reasons) but they do not hurt anyone so let them do.

@Cannee18 That verse in Leviticus was mistranslated from the original Hebrew text. What it really says, is a man should not lay with another man in the bed of a woman. Because in Biblical times, a woman's bed was sacred. It was only for her and her husband. So, the verse doesn't condemn homosexual behavior, it just condems having it in a woman's bed.

@Beenkah Jesus never addressed the issue of homosexuality..When we look at scripture we have to look at what Jesus is reported to have said about certain issues as well as what his response was. Paul and Jesus don't have the same authority..Jesus is greater according to the Bible. You would think that since homosexuality is such an issue for our time that Jesus would have given us clarity but he doesn't and leaves us with only love. I think he did that for a reason and in my opinion..tolerance.

This is so true ! I'm only 16 and I know I have been gay for as long as I can remember. Coming to terms with it and excepting who I am has actually strengthened my Christianity ! Instead of getting hung up and frustrated over something I can't change, all I want is to live my life with a good and strong faith, hopefully find the right man and get married , maybe even raise some kids:D . Who knows!? What I do know though is that even though being gay might be a sin I can still be a good Christian

Seriously, it would be socially acceptable to go dutch on dates (or alternate between who pays for whom), I would have a completely rational partner who could communicate with me logically and rationally, be strong enough to help me move furniture, and wouldn't hold grudges for petty happenings. Wrong. Bible clearly teaches that marriage between a man and a woman is of God. Even to lust after a woman (or, obviously, a man) is a sin. There is NO room to condone homosexual activity. There are clear condemnations of homosexual activity in the books of Genesis (Sodom and Gomorrah), Leviticus, Deuteronomy, 1 and 2 Kings ("sodomites"), Romans, 1 Corinthians, 1 Timothy, and Jude.7. Homosexuals will need to try finding another argument to support their disordered ways.

I would say the high spread of disease amoung those participating in unnature, disordered, homosexual behaviour is one reason, and another is that if you are going to allow two men to marry, why not a man and his daughter (after all, marriage is ONLY about love right?) why is one ok to you but the other isnt?

Because if you condemn sodomy, then you must also only have sex to have children. That means if you don't want to reproduce, you can't use a condom or birth control. Also pregnant couples couldn't have sex. Because she is already pregnant.

In the New testament of the Bible, it clearly explains that Jesus fulfilled the law, thus Christians are not bound to any of the regulations of Jewish social law. If you had knowledge of said religious text, in historical context, you would easily make the distinction.
