To all of you who says this is "crap." Do you understand that this, like many fanfilms out there, generally doesn't have millions of dollars to spen on their projects?
The people behind Starship Exeter is a studio where people are trained to do this stuff professionally. It's a media production school. They can afford a budget for actual sets. Hidden Frontier, which produces Federation One, can't.
Yeah; this is CRAP. Bad sets and makeup can be excused to an extent. Nonexistent acting and black marker lines on "aliens'" faces cannot. "YOU suspect sabotage? (dramatic eye roll)" Also I love these original lines: "We stand upon the brink of waaahr!" and "Fire at will!" LOL!
A critic's job is not to do better than any given artists, it is to critique said artists according to objective criteria. This production is pure garbage, and as I've said, the ridiculous visuals could possibly be excused if the acting was good, but the acting isn't even passable. Giving a negative critique is not "hating."
A critic is suppose to find the good and bad though. I've written movie reviews for the last six/seven years, and try to write about the good and bad about the movie i'm reviewing.
Okay, fanboy, keep justifying your love affair with garbage. The sets aren't that great because they're greenscreened? Greenscreening doesn't have to be *that* bad. The acting has dramatically improved? So now it's marginally watchable, in a B-movie way, as opposed to utterly unwatchable? The makeup's pretty good, for the budget? Is that supposed to excuse the fact that it's terrible? Some of the actors have credits to their name? Well, now, that *really* means something. I'll stay with quality.
True the acting is a litle off and over the top but there not real actors so we can't expect professional acting levels straight away. Fanfilms are like a good Port they get better as they mature.
Though I would like to see more reality in regards to the politics, there is the potiential there to make Vindenpawl a truwly unforgettable character that breaks the evil with no humanity mold that Trek villians have become. And there's a lot to draw inspiration from: Jeffery Archer, Claude Destain
Look at Starship Exeter - their productions are a hell of a lot more watchable than this shit they do at Hidden Frontier... The acting on Exeter is actually acceptable! So's the writing! and the sets are GOOD!
Comparing Exeter and Hidden Frontier is like comparing apples to oranges. One has the backing of a media production school (Exeter), the other doesn't (HF).
Totally agree, Exeter is good enough to be the next Star Trek TV series, and when the brilliant episode "The Tressaurian Intersection" is completed and shown at Trek conventions, I hope Paramount sit up and take notice and feel the same way.
Helena was good.
Odyssey was good.
Federation is fucking awful!
This is just Rob Caves pandering to the hypocrites that don't want Gay Trek.
I bet you hypocrites didn't know that Gene Roddenberry always wanted a gay character on Star Trek he just never got round to it.
There stick that in your pipe and smoke it!

I hope that was Robs intention cause that is how she comes across.

I do have to say that this is the best Star Trek fan made stuff that I have seen until now. Respect.

Actually, this was their second or third production. They've done other shows, many of the characters/actors come from those.

Yeah, I know. Trekkies with no taste will take anything they can get now that Trek is off the air for the foreseeable future.

Again, if you think you can do better, than by all means, do so. If not, stop complaining hater.

Looks like you're the one with the problem. Nobody really cares if you have a problem with it.
Yes, the sets are not that great. That's because they're green screened into the scene.
The acting has dramatically improved over the years.
For their budget, the make-up is pretty good. Don't expect anything elaborate.
Some of the actors have acting credits to their name. Mostly independent films.

I am no fan boy. If you actually went to their website, and watched their stuff, you might change your mind on calling this "garbage."
This is a low-budget project. I bet the stuff Hollywood produces would try to save money by drawing lines on an actor portraying an alien.
The special effects (space and ships shots) are actually really good.
It's just not your thing, which is fine. Why not go watch something from another YouTuber you'll actually enjoy.
TheManiacOnWheelsUSA 2 years ago
The acting feels much better then the "star trek phase 2" project. At the very least they were able to take the "tiny" sounds out of their voices.

The whole basis of Star Trek is that it is about the characters their lives, their differ opinion, their trials and tribulations. Not the technology.

The "actors" can't act! Whatever Star Trek is about, it's still supposed to be Drama.
This ain't. This is little more than a meme.

Their acting has improved a lot over the years. Unfortunately every shot seems to be at the exact same angle.
ellianth 3 years ago
It's because the series is shot on a green screen background. Unfortunately, there is no way to vary the angle.
TrainingThespian 3 years ago
I know how the series is shot. I've seen other things shot in front of a green screen before. You can vary the angle. Just takes a bit more work.
