  • Thanks for the video. I just got a Kindle 3 and I was looking into the non-light version of this case but I was worried about there not being and kind of holds on the other corners of the case. The only thing that seems to be holding it into place are the prongs, how decent are they? Are they pretty stable and keep the Kindle in place?

  • thanks for the video!

  • do they send THIS cover also in the shop?

    I love it

  • This is a great unboxing and demo video. You spoke well and the quality was great. Bravo.

  • What Editing software do you use ?

  • @Andres95chava In this case I used iMovie.

  • It would be better if you had a white background, but the demo was good!

  • I DO NOT recommend this case. If you drop it over 6 inches the pieces that hold the Kindle in.

  • reminded me of the bit in avatar where all the animals connect tails or something

  • @MrPenguinPerson LOL, Kindle's version of "Tsahaylu

  • jesus christ are you chillafrilla or something

  • @kaneissik No, why do you ask?

  • @DetroitBORG you two sound very similar!

  • @kaneissik I get that often ;)

  • If you type 'Kindle cover' into Google you will find dozens of models not made by Kindle. Amazon sells at least a dozen different models including the Kindle offerings. I own one of these and it is a nice cover - I suggest anyone who owns a Kindle to get a cover - but the light is a joke. I would have got one of the covers that you slide the kindle into versus this model. Look at the reviews on Amazon. It ain't worth the money, especially at half of the price of the Kindle itself.

  • Would you say that it is worth it to buy the cover? Do you think it's worthwhile in general to own an e-reader? I've been debating on buying one for some time

  • @Muffinzeshlongun If you are a frequent reader than I think the e-readers are the only way to go. I would buy the Kindle and try it out for yourself before buying the lighted cover.

  • @smarthead409 yeah Just saw the eink in person would be way better for reading books thanks

  • Cool

  • Kool

  • Very helpful and well done. Thanks!

  • Great review!

  • cool video thank you!

  • Got my lighted case brand new never opened at Dirt Cheap for $20.

  • @MrTeamJacob09 online? or in a store? im trying to find a cheap one also(under30$)

  • @quanta412

Look on Amazon under Kindle accessories.

  • Where did you get these screen savers?

  • ive got the lighted cover and it totally rocks !! yes it makes the kindle a bit heavier but the light is great in a darkened room no problem at all in reading ...yes the battery goes a bit quicker but what do you expect ? buy one ..its a good way to protect your investment .

  • I love this leather lighted cover , you can read all the words on the kindle perfectly in the dark with no strain !! . Yes it's a bit pricy but it's worth it . Trust me .

  • I got one of these a few days ago and after this little while the Kindle slides around on the lower tab as if it isn't held on tightly. I wonder if it is the cover or my Kindle.

Though the cover is nice it isn't built for those who are on the go and I doubt it will last the life of your Kindle. The light is basically a novelty as it is basically useless in a totally dark room. I will return it due to the fact the tab isn't secure and look for some other cover that includes a zipper.

  • thanks for your great reviews - i am impatiently waiting for my new kindle and cover!!! your review made my decision on what reader to purchase far easier than expected. appreciate the time you took.

  • Great tutorial but honestly I don't see the point in wasting your money for the one with light when all you have to do is flip a switch

  • @tvxxlover1867 A lot of people like to read in the dark. I do at least, I usually go in my room around 9PM with the lights off and the TV on really low volume and just read :p. Strange but i like it like that lol

  • @tvxxlover1867 That's fine if you have control over your overhead lighting. I for one like to read in areas where I don't' have light right behind me.

  • @tvxxlover1867 Well, I like to read in bed at night, and a light/lamp would keep my husband awake. I also read when he drives in longer car trips at night. You can't turn the overhead light on while you're driving. I've also used it to read my corresponding lecture notes in PDF form while in a darkened lecture theatre at university. With no pun intended, your comment makes you seem really dim.

  • @tvxxlover1867 I go camping a lot and the lighted leather cover really helped me.

  • Can you change the language of the books or magazines ?

  • @dgveiga No, you would need to purchase a different version of the book.

  • Very informative! Thank you so much :) I felt like I had the cover sitting in my own living room and looking at it and playing with it. Personally, I was a little disappointed that you didn't get pink- haha! Thanks a lot for the great demo.

  • Warning--if you look at the 1 star ratings of the kindle, you will find that people were returning their kindles because the shorted out due to the light that was powered by the kindle... this is the $59.99 leather case-- SO DO NOT GET THE CASE WITH THE LIGHT THAT PLUGS INTO THE KINDLE!

  • But is it worth the price? It seems like a lot of money for the function it provides.

  • im debating whether to get the case with the light or not.. im planning on reading a lot and i don't want the light to drain the battery, but the light seems really convenient. I'm also going to be travelling, so can I read the kindle in the airplane without the light?

  • very well presented, just ordered looking forward to receiving it! Thank you for the great overview

  • Great Demo!!! Thanx!!!!

  • @IMAX3dLOVER You don't really need a cover for the Kindle, in fact I'm sure the designers would prefer you didn't use a cover at all because it adds bulk to an otherwise slim and lightweight reader. As for back-lighting, the e-ink panels cannot be lit from behind, unlike an LCD panel.

  • @IMAX3dLOVER I would not have bought a Kindle had it been backlit. Backlit screens can cause eye strain after extended use.

  • @IMAX3dLOVER The whole point of e-link reader is no back lit screen, no damage to the eye, my dear Watson.

  • @IMAX3dLOVER Do you know what e-ink is? No? Okay.

  • @IMAX3dLOVER bc backlit screens strain your eyes bc ur staring at a light and the purpose of the kindle is to be as much to a real book as possible

  • @IMAX3dLOVER lcd/ backlight causes eyestrain

  • I have the unlit cover, but it's basically the exact same thing. Just let me tell you, don't step on it!!! My kindle just broke! Luckily I still have my warranty!!!

  • Great review. Do you have any comments as to how this effects the battery life of the Kindle 3? Especially with wifi/3g in use as well. I should also note that this cover (at least in black) seems to pop up on the used section of Amazon for about 25 bucks about twice a month. They go fast though so you have to keep your eyes open for them. Thanks again!

  • @MontyMcMick I don't think that it would affect the power at all, as the kindle has amazing battery life. But the case itself may restart your kindle frequently. What I did was put some seran wrap over the hooks to stop it from doing so.

  • @MontyMcMick The light will definitely drain your battery much quicker, I'm not sure how long your battery will last with the light on, but I figure could lave it on for 10 hours if fully charged.

  • Thanks for producing a professionally done and in focus video! Nicely done. Birthday coming up in two weeks. Now I know what I want.

  • Thanks

  • i've order it today

  • Nice review. I myself do not have a K3 yet, but didn't this case originally cause issues with the Kindle shorting out?

  • @boxinsideabox It's not this case that caused the problem, but the non-lighted case.

  • Fantastic explanation of how the Kindle Lighted Cover works with the Kindle. Great voice.kindle lighted covers dot com

  • great video thanks for posting

  • The light may not be spread evenly, but notice the light is flexable, so you could adjust the angle, simple, also they will be led lights, so 100,000 hours usage

  • @denodan It's bendable, but not maliable, so you can't permanently change the angle of the light. I don't think the light diffusion issue is a concern in practical use.

  • Good review, but boy are these things ridiculously priced! $60 for a hunk of imitation leather and a cheap LCD light? That's insane.

  • @gmdinformation It is pricey, especially since it's half the price of the Kindle 3 itself...but it's a nice product and good design.

  • @gmdinformation Look in the used/refurb section. You can get ones that are practically new direct from Amazon for much cheaper. I just bought one for $25. Much better than $60

  • @mongomondomongo Well, I already broke down and bought a new one at Best Buy. I'm not too crazy about it, but it does do the job. I put a clothespin across the bend in the lamp's arm to make it bend back a little, thereby exposing the bottom of the text page to more light. It's still not really enough though. And boy is this Kindle a lot heavier now! I lay on my back to read in bed, so I'm holding the Kindle (or a book) up in from of me from a horizontal position, and it gets pretty heavy.

  • @gmdinformation Ha, I gave up on trying to read it in bed. I could never get it in a really comfortable position. I just read it at my desk or couch.

  • Great review, thanks!

  • Thanks for the great demo! I had a hard time attaching the clips to the Kindle, and the diagram in the packaging wasn't very helpful. Amazon should point out that the plastic part of the top clip is supposed to stick out a little.

  • @tunghoy My pleasure, glad to have helped!

  • For my kindle the light doesn't work and when I switched cases with my friend my case worked with his kindle but his case with my kindle doesn't work

  • @32bullboy There must be something faulty with the connectors in your Kindle 3.

  • Wonderful! You provide a great service. When are the Kindle people going to pay you!

  • @sckvevrbdy Thank You, don't I wish! ;)

  • The Kindle and Lighted cover, does their combined weight become a bother?

  • @yellowpadify it does add weight and I prefer to hold the kindle without a cover, but it's not bad and I use it with the cover about half the time.

  • @DetroitBORG I see. Thanks for replying :D

  • @yellowpadify I find it doesn't bother me at all. I haven't taken my kindle out since I got it. The burned orange color is fantastic.

  • Nice review!!! At first I wondered why the light did not work (you have to have the kindle turned on). I am very pleased with both the cover and the kindle.

  • At highmindlunacy

The light works off your kindles battery

As when you turn off the kindle the light dosent work :)

Therefore nothing has ever to be replaced simply the kindle has to be charged :)

  • now I want this leather cover >.<

  • Will this light last forever or will bulbs need to be replaced eventually etc. ?

  • @HighMindedLunacy They are not replaceable and should last well beyond the life of the Kindle 3.

  • I love this case, but I don't think it's worth $60 at all.

  • It isn't the official cover

But it is one made by amazon for the kindle as you can easy use any other cover

    Like the iPhone

I have the same one but in burgundy and it is amazing mainly due to the good quality and built in light

If you was going to buy one I would strongly agree with this case :)

  • @IslaMinBabes Yes it IS the official cover!

  • Good video but us this the official amazon cover for the kindle ?

  • @bringthetechon Yes, this is one of them. They sell a version taht is non-lit as well.

  • I am discouraged from buying this lighted cover, because (1) it is made of leather, and (2) the illumination produced by the light is noticeably uneven, which I think would be very distracting to me and detract greatly from the enjoyment of reading in the dark.

  • @AudioVideoSlave I actually don't find fault with the illumination, in a real world setting the light works perfectly for me.

  • Good video, thank you.

  • thanks for the vid. I was actually watching this to see if the case has a plastic covering the actual screen. I see it does not. Does anyone know of a cover that has that feature. This way I won't have to buy a screen protector separately.

  • like the case but the light is not effective enough, you can get clip on lights that are the same from shops, but lighting across the screen would be better if it was evenly spread.

  • @darkelf1000 This is a more elegant solution to clip-on lights IMO. If I had to rely on clip-ons, I am less likely to use the Kindle.

  • This was a very clear, helpful presentation. I was concerned about the angle of the connections, so I wanted to see it on video rather than in a user's manual. Your presentation did the trick, quickly and easily. Thanks for taking the time to do it.

  • @wisereyes Excellent, thanks for the feedback!

  • I wish it wasn't real leather... I'd probably buy it then...

  • I would have like to have seen the wallet completely seal the kindle inside all the edges are still exposed and for what reason I fail to see, the instructor said all the devices at the bottom are still accesable, but for what reason the wallet needs to be open before they are of any use,I shall look else where!!!

  • Thanks! I just bought it in pink. It looks very nice

  • THank you for the review, i just bought this product in apple green!

  • I'm not allowed this because it is ridiculously expensive - I'm not made of money, I guess. I would KILL for it to be even £10 (obviously not gonna happen), the colours steel blue, hot pink and apple green look seriously amazing. Steel blue especially. ;)

  • @blugal102 You can buy the non-lighted covers which are similar in design with the same colors.

  • @blugal102 Just keep an eye on eBay. I found one without a light for $16 the other day. $60 is way too much imo.

  • thank you i didnt know how to take it out

  • I just need a cover under $30 that will keep it from breaking....

  • @mardfet They sell non-lighted versions of this same design for much less.

  • Gay

  • Excellent review. You provided enough detail to convince me to buy one of these. Thanks!

  • @calharding Glad to hear it :)

  • I know this isn't really related, but are you using a Mac? I thought i heard the new mail message tone on the Mac at the start of the video? If indeed you are using a Mac how well does the Kindle work with the Mac?

  • @Lachlant1984 Yes, I'm using a Mac, iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch etc... so the mail tone is coming from one of thsoe devices. It works just fine with the Mac, no different than a PC..which is to say it mounts as a drive just like it does on a PC.

  • Very nice review. I'm thinking about buying a case and this has helped me a lot.

  • Does this case reboot the kindle. I was having problems with the case that doesn't have a light. It kept freezing the kindle when it was in sleep mode so then the only way to turn it on was to reboot the whole thing. So I called customer service and they said the case with the light will fix this. Have you experienced random reboots with this case?

  • @ipodtouchsweet No, that is a known issue with the non-lighted case. Hopefully Amazon will issue a recall on them.

  • @ipodtouchsweet nope not at all its very handy to have the intergrated light to read at night i love reading at night its just enough light to read with

  • Just what I wanted to see before dropping $60. Thanks you very much.

  • @pjingersoll My pleasure, love this product.

  • Perfect review.

  • @RobynHode8 Thanks :)

  • I just received my new Kindle 3 and the lighted leather cover. I will be taking this to my trip abroad for 3 weeks. My new Kindle will be my perfect travel companion esp. for my 22 hr. flight. Thnx for the review.

  • @cyberhdc Excellent, have a great flight, you must be going FAR!

  • dam that light sucks :/ it has potential

  • Not sure if this question has been asked already. If so, amuse me. :) If you push the light inside the case, and still have the kindle attached to the case, does the light use up the battery power or did they design it intelligently so that it stops using battery power? Thanks!

  • @TheTripletTube There is no "vampire draw" when the light is retracted, the light completely powers down. Essentially, there are simple switches and contacts in the case, once the light is pushed in the power source is disconnected.

  • Very nice review!

According to some reviews on Amazon it seems that some people are experiencing shorter battery life (I've read anywhere from 3 days to 2 weeks battery life) even if they never use the light. Is this true, or do they have defective units?

    Thanks.

  • @MrEcted My battery lasts a month with the case always connected, I'm not sure what the story is there but I assume it's unrelated.

  • Does the case still draw battery if the light isn't pulled out? I guess my real question is, is this supposed to function as a case/cover you'd keep on all the time, or just mainly for using the light?

  • @KNSCproductions No, the case draws no current when the light is retracted because the light does not make a physical electrical connection unless it's pulled out.

  • has anyone tried to see if this works with kindle 2 even though it says its for the kindle 3?

  • @demonstar3 it will not fit.

  • @tryceo aw

  • Ok I am about to drop the hammer on a buying a new kindle and this little piece of tech has sealed the deal. Great review thank you

  • This looks like a really nice peace of kit has any info been released about battery consumption ?? I just want to know if this is gonna decimate my battery life and also does the kindle have an sd card slot ?? Please reply if u know cheers :)

  • Comment removed

  • @Hullspawn The K3 uses a 650 mAh 3.7 v Li battery. The K3 cover uses about 12 ma when the light is on. The K3 has excellent power management. The battery will run the light for 40 hours with the WIFI/G3 off. That is better then any cell phone or laptop. The battery can be replaced by removing two screws.

The K3 has an SD card and slot inside to hold the unix operating system, but there is no user SD slot.

  • @fiddlerJohn Excellent info, thanks!

  • ITS GOT A NICE GROOVE !!!!!

  • Thats pretty sweet!

  • I enjoy your reviews a lot. Your extremely detailed which is excellent, and your voice isn't annoying like some other reviewers in the YouTube community.

  • @justace123 Glad to hear it, thanks :)

  • do you know the life span of the three light bulbs installed?

  • @MarudeAho LEDs can last decades, well beyond the lifespan of the Kindle.

  • @DetroitBORG how long is the lifespan of the kndle???

  • @freebird887 Well, probalby as long as the non-removable internal battery, I would say no more than 8-10 years at the most optimistic.

  • @DetroitBORG The Battery is no worse to change than the average iPod battery.

  • your tutorials are very good, my only sad face that happens when you're talking in the tutorial is... 'cover ITSELF' that word really annoys me!!! Sorry to be so picky, but very good tutorial :D

  • @stephbird1 Sorry, bad habit ;)

  • Woo great demo, very thorough! I just ordered myself a cover in apple-green :) Unfortunately my Kindle won't ship till 5 weeks :( *sadface*

  • @bettenoir87 Wow, that's a long delay. Are they on backorder now?

  • @DetroitBORG Looks that way - I've been put in a queue so they're shipping them out on a first come first served basis and a limit to only 3 per customer. Oh well, I'm sure it's worth the wait.

  • @bettenoir87 It doesn't surprise me, demand is extremely high, especially with the holidays.

  • i'm glad i got the cover without the light because i barely ever use the regular leather cover that i bought for my kindle 3. i only put the cover on my kindle when im not reading it and when i'm taking it somewhere. when im reading it, i find it more comfortable to take it off the kindle and read that way.

  • @bubblemuffinxp It's a durable and inexpensive device, i wouldn't be too worried about keeping it covered when in use...but it's nice to have a light and cover when you need it.

  • If you regularly use a clip-on light with your traditional books, you'll like the lighted cover. If you never use such things, why add cost and bulk?

  • Are the gold contact clips hinged? It looks like they aren't, which makes me worry that any movement of the Kindle (ie. its right-hand edge lifting from the back cover) would place enormous stress on the lips, ultimately damaging either them or even the sockets in which they it on the Kindle.

  • @elainewithnail That's a legitimate concern, they indeed are not hinged. It's something that gave me some initial concern, but ultimately I find that there is virtually no movement to worry about and I've had no trouble.

  • @DetroitBORG Thanks!

  • Super job! Thank you for this informative vid. Have a great day!

  • @bhardecker Thanks, my pleasure!

  • What Is Thu Whole Point Of Thu Kindle?

  • @rdbli It's primarily a very affordable e-ink based e-reader that conveniently serves books from the Amazon bookstore.

  • @rdbli It's primarily a device which allows you to read enough material so that you can get to the stage in life where you can spell "the".

  • In the UK this cover costs pretty much half as much as my WiFi Kindle 3, is it worth it?

  • @mahchymk93 I think it's the reason to buy the Kindle, so yes!

  • @DetroitBORG I'm pretty sold on it already, I guess I'll buy it.

  • very neat vid, GJ

  • the cover probably would have been better if the light was in the center of the cover so it would have spread the light more evenly.

  • You mentioned in a previous comment that you personally prefer the Nook. I am trying to decide between the two right now. Can you quickly summarize why you prefer the Nook?
