Freshman year of college is not easy to cope with due to fear of being the new person on campus. Word of wisdom is to attend class everyday, avoid classmates who like to party all the time, study , get plenty of rest with self-confidence and you will succeed. College is a learning environment, not a party atmosphere. Check out my video - Dreams Do Come True by Latosha Asemota and give me your input.
good for you. i plan to transfer this year from a commuting school to a university, and rather stay off campus than be with a group of immature drunkies. Last thing anyone wants is regret, regret that they party their brains out, regret that they have a low gpa, regret about losing their virginity, etc. I'm proud for you. Not many people can withstand peer pressure. Stay sophisticated !!!
I go to famu also and trust me Palmetto north is the hood! i know this because i live here.... i had bullet holes come through my ceiling and FAMU police did absolutely nothing about it... i wouldn't recommend ANY freshman to stay here their first year!!! FAMU does not take care of their dorms or on-campus apartments
Hey! I love your vids and have been watching you for a while and I had no idea that you went to FAMU. I'm a freshmen at FSU and I completely agree with you. Living on campus is one of the best decisions I've made so far. By the way, do you do hair?
OMG I LOVE UR VIDEOS!! And you are soo right on about everything you discussed. I go to an HBCU in Ga and i also stayed in a dorm rather than the apartment styled room. College is soo fun!!
LOVE LOVE LOVE your video!!!! I went to Alabama A&M and I wish more people would understand what you have learned your first year. There is nothing like staying on CAMPUS!!! NOTHING LIKE IT!!!! HBCU's ROCK!!!
you aint lying. I stayed in a dorm at USF for my freshman year and it made me sooo grateful to get an apartment my second yr. For every college we got our ghetto dorms cuz everyone cant afford the expensive dorms
I stayed on campus Fall 01 and I had the BEST time staying campus. Wheatley and Cropper Halls (but I spent alot of time in every dorm hall). LOL I had 3 roommates in the first room and several roommates the 2nd time lol. This video is on point, I would highly recommend that you stay in the dorms as a freshmen to find out whats going on. I also had friends who stayed in apartments and off campus and they knew NOTHING i.e parties, games (same things you mentioned).
I suggest those picky people visit the campus and the dorms before the apply to the school so that they know what they are in for. I am one of the picky people so I had a private room during my years in college cause I am an only child and I couldn't imagine living with someone. Thank you for giving this information out!
I stayed off campus but I basically lived there bc I was there all the time. I'd crash at my bf's but evrybody knew your business! I'd try to sneak in and out of his apt. and peep would still know. And, the grlz started so much mess. Around town, if u went to ABAC in Tifton, dudes would be like 'oh u a ABAC girl huh'? Didn't know what that meant til I discovered a lot of the grlz were frickin strippin! & there was a 40 yr old chk livin in the dorms, lol.
If I could it all over I PROBABLY would've stayed on campus IF we would've had dorms : ( but our school got hella damaged by Katrina and we're just getting our dorms...I know what you mean about the drama though cause girl let me tell ya those girls are a mess! but it's crazy cause the dudes worse smh
I completely agree w/ everything you stated!!! I transferred to FAMU fall of 08' I was still considered a freshmen... I was living off campus and I had no clue about anything that was going on, on campus... I wld definetly say stay on campus as a freshman...!!! I hardly knew anybody and I mainly keep to myself as a result of not living on campus!!! so yea GET A DORM!!!
i agree. & STAY FOCUSED!! it's sooo easy to get distracted from your schoolwork. like adri said there's mad parties & events on campus so there's lots of stuff to do besides your work lol remember that you are in college to get an education NOT drink ya self to a stupor or party as hard as possible.
@leashasacutiepie & if you slip in your grades, well at least my school, they WILL put you on academic probation and scholarship probation if you have a scholarship.
sorry to say something mean i dnt think its mean but VCU is not a HBCU but VSU around the corner or VUU is a HBCU i jus hadda say that kuz i go to VSU !!!
I loved my freshman year! I went to a mostly white school & there were times that I wished that I had gone to an HBCU. There were 4000 freshman & only 400 blacks. I rarely saw black folk and that meant I didn't know bout events. In the end, I think that it was a learning experience; After all, all colleges serve the same purpose. I made a lot of friends & I enjoyed the on-campus experience. I agree 100% when you say that people should stay on campus their first year. You meet a LOT more people.
LOL we have Fried Chicken Wednesdays at my school to and like all the black people go on that day {{im talking about people that stay off campus be up on college hill}} lol you don't see no black people in the cafe until Wednesdays... It's crazy cause I go to a predominently white school {{East Carolina University}} and all the white people be like "oh my" cause the chicken line be so long and they cant find no seats. **BUT THAT CHICKEN BE BANGING THOUGH!!!!** LMBO
@myzzjazz omg you killing me. i just graduated from a predominently white university and I actually saw a lot of them eating the fried chicken in the student center.
staying in a dorm was the best thing for me coming from staying with my parents that did everything for me.. REALITY CHECK. made me take care of myself and learn how to live on my own and take care of my own business. then my senior year i stayed in the on campus apartments.
LOL the Foote is TERRIBLE! i lived in palmetto south my freshman yr and i had a good experience. they didnt have cable in the dorms in my day, i wanted my own room (nudist lol) and my class had too many ppl for all of us to stay in the dorms so i opted for the apt.
Palmetto North is the ghetto one. Definitely! I stayed in Palmetto South my sophomore year. I stayed in Wheatley my freshman year. I loved the experience. Should stay campus first year definitely.
omg girl , u aint never lied about that age difference thing ( when you got a younger roommate) . i got the same thing goin on right now. me and my younger cuz are both in school and stay together...she can be so simple minded lol. we on two levels 4 real
ayeee i go to vcu but i always wanted to go to famu. out of state tuition is a mf if it wasnt i would be right down there.
