The difference is plain and simple. Travis Barker is like Transformers: a lot of dumbasses go to the theatre to see a big blockbuster shitty movie that impresses them because they care about special effects and other bullshits. Dennis Chambers is like a Orson Welles movie: seems boring to whoever doesn't know jack about movies, but true fans know it's a lot better than Transformers. Barker gets the money, Chambers gets the appraisal.

Barker is like a a shit stain compared to Dennis ... good drummer but there's a difference. Between good and out of this world... any one can lay down a cool groove over a click track but not many out there like Dennis. Or even close.... other great drummers would be Billy cobbam buddy rich Dave weckyl Chris Coleman Teddy cambell... many others.. I can't comprehend why you would even think about Travis Barker while watching Mr. Chambers play. They are in 2 different universes. His solos are amazing & his beats are complicated and groovy as hell at the same time. Most pop/rock drummers like Mr. Barker can't do 1/2 the stuff he does & that's why most of them look up to Chambers.

@KurdtKobain09 I don't think you'll find too many people out there agreeing whith that statement. This guy is all about speed. There's no actual feel to it. Peart is a much more musical drummer, whose solos are more about melodic playing than hitting everything on the set as fast as you can.

@Oxpost Well, it's a solo. If you listened to his work with ToP and other bands you'll see he has a deeper more complex pocket than Peart and a better understanding of snare technique.

He plays musically all the time, don't see the harm in busting out chops once in a while. Peart's solo's are more "percussionist" than anything, and yes they are more "melodic," but imo, it's just a solo. It's playing with the music that matters and I believe Chambers is better at that.

Yes, this is sped up in parts. If you look a the screen closely, it seems like it's taken fron an old VHS video tape and run through fast. This only occurs in the beginning part. The rest is pure drumming; phenomnal.

No that's not sped up, it's possible to play that fast. If it was sped up, the tempo would change and the pitch of the drum

would change. He's a true musician who plays musician gigs, not just a drum star. He's got better things to do than fake being fast. That's your hangup, not his.

@Twaddles7845 Yes I know who he is. I am a professional drummer myself. But still, I've seen his other solos/play live and I swear this is sped up a bit. It's that I think he can't play that fast, rather that his body movements are literally too quick. Watch it again, but pay attention to how his arms skip around and the cymbals stop moving really quickly, then look at the other vids and I promise you you'll see that this is sped up a bit!

as drumsolos go, this was mesmerizing! and not just from the technical standpoint, either. nice pace changes, left me wondering "what's he gonna do next?!" It moves quite well the way music is supposed to. it starts out simmering, heats up a bit, simmers some more and then boils over. awesome!

lots of speed on the grooves, i like to play latin and funk grooves at lower speeds because they sound better, some rythms are meant to be played at certain tempos, but he's definitly good, for a first impression, id like to see him playing along with a band.

That depends a little what you look for in a solo. If you only are interested in chops then i guess chambers is the guy. If you're looking for musicality in solos than i think you should check out dave weckl, joe morello, horacio el negro for example.
