@NYzwolf thats because your a noob. the first xbox360 i modded was broken by RROD. i bought it from a noob who tried to mod it too' i laughed my ass off when i first looked inside ., he even tried duct tape.,lmfao/ the fix was easy . 1remove the heatsinks , 2.add new paste . 3.leave the x- clamps off and use bolts to mount the heatsinks back. 4 add 2 small core fans on the CPU and on the passive heatblock of the GPU. 5 get a xcm case with x logo on top, its a great exhaust. done
@ImmortalUniverse These things always break, you could even slap water cooling on it, re-ball the shit out of it... and it still has a good chance of being back in the shop.
The boards are FoxCon slave labor garbage products.
Not saying they can't be fixed, just saying there is no such thing as a perma 100% fix for these POS boxes.
removing the drive and powering it externally with something like the ck3 would mean you can replace the gpu heatsink with the old massive cpu block, then you can install a fan on top to suck out the hot air from the gpu, leaving the cpu vent and fans as they are, replacing the back fan with a higher powered version like the whisper 2 would be good.
I would hook up both fans. the back fan is blocking some of the air flow.
On my sons' system. I originally removed ALL THE OLD COOLING PASTE AND PUT NEW PASTE ON the heat sinks. New ARTIC SILVER PASTE on both chips. Bolted down the heat sinks instead of the X clips. I also removed the plastic ducting so I get total airflow through my system. My son said its been 3 years on no RRoD. I took it apart the other day found a little dust on the heat sinks. blew it off . NO Prob.
Actually they are "n00bs" in this situation. They airflow layout in this console is absolutely horrible. The whole reason for the red ring of death is due to a lack of cool air flowing into the casing. Passive cooling for the heatsink is stupid. That's why the slim model has a large intake fan.
@Pandam0onium im was disappointment when i saw that the fans in the new xbox were not like the ps3 style fans, but the fact the the GPU and CPU are combined into 1 chip and one massive heatsink with a 180mm fan on top of it will be the best cooling in a console yet i think
@alex0enochs Well, that surely can be made, in the 90's Cyrix produced the MediaGX (combined cpu/video/audio...) and also by now there is AMD with their fusion technology, now, the gpu also is a CPU ( a more advanced one).
i actually did that same mod to mine awhile ago but i took a 7 volt AC adapter and connected it to the 120mm fan, works really good but theres so much dust that gets in it now
@HeadSh07zzz im doing the same thing with a 12v one, i actually found an adapater at radioshack you set the voltage on, so technically i can control the speed, you might wanna look into it
I have the exact setup but I actually tapped the wires from the 120mm fan into the wires of the rear fans. They all work just fine. I don't see the point of taking the rear fans off or make them not work.
dont seem like alot of air is being drawn out by that paper test with the 2 fans at the rear it draws much more air out why noit have top fan on and rear fans.
They already have a fix. You see when people got the RROD they could'nt do anything about it I think because everyone had their 360's already. So When I had mine turned in. What they did was move the parts around to keep it from over heating the heat sink and melting it. (I belive a year or a few months later they gave out fixed ones but never said which were it.
Yeah. I made a plan now. Its gonna be a acrylic 17inch Width im not sure how thick but its gonna be see through and im thinking using some etheir 2 big fans or 4 small fans or somthing. I haven't decided on the fans but I want to get one with led lol. What should I do. USb or Adapter or wjatever. I heard USB can short out ur pc or it dosent give enoght power
couple flaws I'd like to point out, first of all the stock xbox fan blows air out of the console not in so keeping it plugged in would improve airflow and if you are set on keeping it off then at least remove it, all it is doing is blocking air that wants to get out
@donnythepope i think hes trying to show the fan he added will help to blow it out along with the two exhaust fans, which I too am hoping he plugs back in lol
how did you connect that type of computer fan cuz i have the same one and i cant get power to it. it the 3 pin & 4 pin conector. can u please help....? did you u an adaptor or?? help....
the only thing that might be a problem with your set up is youre drawing power from xbox 360 thus make it work harder that it should be, external power is good!
very nice mod look up mine its awsome to CIA360MODS / xbox 360 cooling mod wach and coment let me know what you guys think!!!!!! yours is very nice mod to
I did the same thing on my Xbox 360. BUT I left the rear fans connected (Talismoon). Air flow is from the top fan (120mm) down into the Xbox and out the rear fans. It runs way cooler, and my games don't freeze up anymore . You also need to consider the CFM of both fans so you have proper matching.
What tool do i use to cut the top of the Xbox case to embed the Fan? and is there anything internal, like a piece of card i need to put in to allow the air to direct itself onto anything, Thanks.

am a pc game but my lil now 13yr bro B-DAY was yesterday and he wants a xbo360 and I was thinking of doing the same objective with a 140mm fan dead right in the center hmm
I have the same setup on my 360, plus a whisper fan max running at 12v. I also used aluminum tape to tape up the air vent holes on the right side of the metal frame inside the case, because instead of the air leaving as soon as it enters the case, the air is forced to exit through the back of the system. Nice video, but next time you should use a tissue, it would have a greater of effect.
with out the back fans it will overheat fast. The back fans use ducts which pull air through the heat sinks. That fan just pushes air and goes out the side vents. If u used this with an intercooler it would work because an intercooler would replace the back fans.
yea an u might ruin yer xbox to.... thats a lot to run.... w/e chip u have they all made to run at max power so u wud need to match up v with the new tx
with the dvd on top of it no it is not cooling the GPU that is a problem that microsoft should have taken care of years ago. it can not cool with the dvd reflecting heat back no matter how many fans you put
i say this cause either the fan is blowing towards the heat sink casing (not good) or blowing on the xbox other ports(the holes) and the back; all r not working! the best fan mod is to get an AC (<-easiest) fan on the back were the fans on 360 blows out and use AC fan to suck that air out faster cause everything else is built inside to direct air flow and if u want put fans on sides to blow in, careful will add alot of dust
Anthony83090, you do not know what you are talking about. Custom cooling case mods are the only way to go (period). Who cares about DUST, you can clean that out easily, besides, with forced air induction, you don't get much build up of dust because it does not have time to hang around because the air is being force in then out.
shut you ass up ive work on many 360s i have two modded ones and i know what im talkin about it sucks air out of the case so the cpu and gpu dont over heat i even the blaue tailsmoon fan does it to but with that you can have it eithter way
??? your a punk who has never even opened, worked on, or modded a 360 let alone any electrical item fuck off dick head and if you wanna back yourself up fight me
yea i just opened mine cuz i found out my warranty expired. i have this costco mini fan that i put on my "opened" 360 and it blows air on the heatsinks and out the rear fans that suck the air out. So far it keeps my 360 cool, cool enough that the heatsinks feel lik room temp. Anyways have u dont any cooling mods to ur 360? im thinkin about water coolin but i dun feel lik paying hundreds for it.
true that air is being introduced either way but pulling dust and junk away from the mother board and components is a smarter decision than putting more dust inside.
Whether pushing or pulling, the effect really is the same. You're moving air into the console, which flows across your internals, then exhausts. I've studied convection current effects on electronics (computer science) and you really will be pulling in a negligible amount of air particles/dust either way.
do you think that instead off pumping air into the console...if the fan went the other way and sucked the hot air out of the console... do you think that would work??
I have noticed that the bottom of the xbox (when placed horizontally) gets pretty toasty and that's where the GPU is. I haven't modded my 360 yet, but will a laptop cooler work temporarily? It's powered by USB and it shouldn't draw too much power right? I just don't want my 360 to catch on fire or melt or even RROD on me while I'm gaming. hehe
if its usb powered and youve got something like a ps3 or portable batterie charger id reccomend you plugging it in one of those two, so your 360 will basically get free air!
Dude, could you upload a video of this same mod without the DVD drive? I have a bathroom exhaust fan mounted on top of my unit which I use as an intake but I just can't find a way to guide the air to the GPU. Lemme see how you did yours.
I put a fan mod on my xbox 360.....I took the NYKO intercooler casing...took out the inter fan replaced the fan with standard computer fan. so far from what i can tell it hasn't froze and it has not given me the RROD...but when my warrenty runs out...i'mma mod the hell outta my xbox 360....I got the standard 3years warrenty...
the freezing is in mos cases resulted because of the power supply or the power brick ty connecting it directly into the wall and try placeg it above the fround on an open box to keep it as cool as possible
no no, he is directing air under the dvd drive if you look closely which is where gpu is located, just because the fan is in front of the cpu doesn't mean thats where the airs going.
yeah i put a filter on it. you are right about the dust issue, a simple filter that you can buy on ebay will fix this problem. well my xbox was already voided because microsoft said i had no warantee so i opened it myself :) fun stuff!
the big 120 mm fan on top ,kills the look of the xbox360.
i cant believe you did that.
its damn ugly ,and still loud.
but it was humor for me to watch .
so thanks anyways.

cause the xbox360's ive fixed are still alive after years ,i even fixed for friends.
if you cant fix a broken xbox360, its probably cause the previous owner did some noobish actions.
i had 1 that i couldnt fix ,because the previous owner had destroyed the circuits on theboard.
i still sold it for parts and made profit:)

@codyxcaution What I don't get is that we get a giant block heat sink for the cpu and a tiny short heatsink in a tight space for the gpu?
Does that really make sense....
ShadowxMaker 1 year ago
@ShadowxMaker Honestly I have no clue...
Even in my own Desktop, my GPU demands -MUCH- more cooling than my CPU.
There is however a heatpipe filled with a gas to better transfer the heat off of the "smaller heatsink"
The heatpipe doesn't sound like much but it makes a HUGE difference, they conduct a lot of thermal energy. And I mean alot.

Anthony83090 3 years ago
lol finaly some 1 making sence
feddei111 3 years ago 2
Anthony83090, you do not know what you are talking about. Custom cooling case mods are the only way to go (period). Who cares about DUST, you can clean that out easily, besides, with forced air induction, you don't get much build up of dust because it does not have time to hang around because the air is being force in then out.

good job. can you show us where you hook up the wires?
toxicfrost123 3 years ago
to fix the dust problem you can just put a filter :)

osamaoj2 3 years ago
why do they put the 360 in so they suck air out of it instead of blowing air in, micrsoft= retarted
saleenxxx 3 years ago
UYmm your retarded because the xbox doesn't blow air out, NOT IN! the fans just dont move as much air as people would like
Rexars 3 years ago
shut you ass up ive work on many 360s i have two modded ones and i know what im talkin about it sucks air out of the case so the cpu and gpu dont over heat i even the blaue tailsmoon fan does it to but with that you can have it eithter way
saleenxxx 3 years ago
u r a dumbfuck the fan is just not fast
batild 3 years ago
??? your a punk who has never even opened, worked on, or modded a 360 let alone any electrical item fuck off dick head and if you wanna back yourself up fight me
saleenxxx 3 years ago
yea saleen is right it sucks air out.....
Its like putting a bowl of soup behind your fan...it doesnt really get cooled
now if the soup was in front of the fan, the heat is somewhat dispersed
Intimidatorx31 3 years ago
thank you, these other dicks think they know all about a 360 with out opening it yeah right haah
saleenxxx 3 years ago
yea i just opened mine cuz i found out my warranty expired. i have this costco mini fan that i put on my "opened" 360 and it blows air on the heatsinks and out the rear fans that suck the air out. So far it keeps my 360 cool, cool enough that the heatsinks feel lik room temp. Anyways have u dont any cooling mods to ur 360? im thinkin about water coolin but i dun feel lik paying hundreds for it.
Intimidatorx31 3 years ago
dude just get the wisper fans my shit never over heats with that its only 20 bucks online
saleenxxx 3 years ago
blowing air in would cause more problems with dust and junk getting blown inside. just make your fan run at 12v and you will be fine!
ghostoftheunion 3 years ago
yeah i got a whisper fan blue and a extra on tha top of the heatsink
saleenxxx 3 years ago
Not true. Whether air's being blown in or sucked in, you're still introducing air into the console.
And the problem with the 12v fan mod is the NOISE. They're pretty loud when running at 12v.
tanbrolo 3 years ago
true that air is being introduced either way but pulling dust and junk away from the mother board and components is a smarter decision than putting more dust inside.
ghostoftheunion 3 years ago
Whether pushing or pulling, the effect really is the same. You're moving air into the console, which flows across your internals, then exhausts. I've studied convection current effects on electronics (computer science) and you really will be pulling in a negligible amount of air particles/dust either way.
tanbrolo 3 years ago
good point its good as well because it sucks the hot air away

GREAT IdeA
lebron5000 3 years ago 2
do you think that instead off pumping air into the console...if the fan went the other way and sucked the hot air out of the console... do you think that would work??
footballla911 3 years ago
i think that would make more sense.
linfan853 3 years ago
no i doesn't
yellownapeamazon2 3 years ago
wat about both, pumping air in on top and sucking out on the side(if its standing horizontaly)
DaChallenger 3 years ago
I have noticed that the bottom of the xbox (when placed horizontally) gets pretty toasty and that's where the GPU is. I haven't modded my 360 yet, but will a laptop cooler work temporarily? It's powered by USB and it shouldn't draw too much power right? I just don't want my 360 to catch on fire or melt or even RROD on me while I'm gaming. hehe
xienxien2001 3 years ago
if its usb powered and youve got something like a ps3 or portable batterie charger id reccomend you plugging it in one of those two, so your 360 will basically get free air!
JayhawkertillIDie 3 years ago
they should make an xbox 360 out of ice. Then no more overheating problems will occur

will this be ok if i do the same but have my wisper max fans running aswell ?
number1sexmachine 3 years ago
yes.
but try not to get anything running off of the xbox360's power.
as Microsoft reccomended you not to.
x1ofakind1x 3 years ago
Dude, could you upload a video of this same mod without the DVD drive? I have a bathroom exhaust fan mounted on top of my unit which I use as an intake but I just can't find a way to guide the air to the GPU. Lemme see how you did yours.

bathroom fan geez that must be loud

I put a fan mod on my xbox 360.....I took the NYKO intercooler casing...took out the inter fan replaced the fan with standard computer fan. so far from what i can tell it hasn't froze and it has not given me the RROD...but when my warrenty runs out...i'mma mod the hell outta my xbox 360....I got the standard 3years warrenty...
betatestersrule08 3 years ago
Haha, yeh I'm going fuckin all out when my warranty expires. One week after expiration my xbox is gonna look like space shuttle component
xBeauVx 3 years ago
ehm, you didnt cool the video card, you cooled the Processor ;) the Large heatsink is the GPU, and the small one is the CPU ;) check my vids :), grtz
Globox360 4 years ago
think its a nice design but the should be conected to the wall insted
puertorricanstar 4 years ago
really? interesting consider my system was freezing every 10 minutes, i add a small heatsink fan to the gpu and it stops freezing? Hmmmmmm
timetopaythepiper 4 years ago
the freezing is in mos cases resulted because of the power supply or the power brick ty connecting it directly into the wall and try placeg it above the fround on an open box to keep it as cool as possible
Ado501 3 years ago
ehm, actually globox hes right and your wrong.the large hs is cpu and the gpu sits under the dvd drive.
TheMagicNumber1337 3 years ago
no no, he is directing air under the dvd drive if you look closely which is where gpu is located, just because the fan is in front of the cpu doesn't mean thats where the airs going.

Whats the Xbox Live status of this box?
ShaXdow5 4 years ago
yeah i put a filter on it. you are right about the dust issue, a simple filter that you can buy on ebay will fix this problem. well my xbox was already voided because microsoft said i had no warantee so i opened it myself :) fun stuff!
ekapsalis 4 years ago
yea guys this is a good way to void your warranty why not just put a fan next to it
predator666ultimate 4 years ago 2
but whats the fun in that?
tipoomaster 4 years ago 4
yeah it will realy suck many dust into the console.. you should place a filter on it, like some pc's have.
Globox360 4 years ago 3
What about the dust that tHis fan could introduce to inside?
