Yeah, michaelj, two best harp players in rock! Not only Danko, but you can hear Levon, and Garth too! Great time in their careers..nice transition into Heaven's door....I can still see a gut-shot Slim Pickins....
My brother, in need and my love, bobb, dylan forever in the stars, in our hearts, forever fly....fly so high, i can forever touch that sky in your eye call love its here its here to stay we should all kneel to the king of kings lord of lords our savior jesus christ can do all things for those who believe. Thank u God for everything.
WE WANT OUR MUSIC BACK ! Not souless moronic rappers or dead behind the eyes false teen idols am not going to let my kids listen to that horrendous shit if bob dylan was a young artist today we'd never have heard of him all forms of popular music have now been nutured to send out the corporate politically correct mesage
@19babyjack55 Two greatest rock song writers of the 20th century. Don't take my word for it, look it up. Not great performance but it's pretty cool to hear them together. Sorry you can't dig it.
Neil Young is royalty I bow down to him. He inspired me to learn guitar and mouth organ at 16 I am now 52 and can still play his early music all night. Thank you Mr Young
@spooks27 I'm with ya ... I learned harp and git at 13 listening to Bob and Neil .. I'm now 53 and play in an acoustic trio ... with " knockin" and " needle" on the playlist... I'm never without my git and still play everyday.. it keeps me sane... thanks guys
@spooks27 Hey spooks I did the exact same thing! Started at 16 an I am 52! strange . Neil is my hero. Been playin pro for 30 some yrs, thanks to Neil!!!
Once upon a time Zimmy heard a guy on the radio playing harp and guitar in a voice like his and said "who is this guy"? Stealing his thunder! LOL! Two of the best harpers in the biz and great to see them together! Again thanks people for all the humorous human comments, my sides hurt! HAHAHAHA!
Can't believe I did not have enough $ to go into this concert -- but > it was not bad outside the walls of the stadium either -- sounded about like this stream .. they had a great sound system
One thing to think about for all music lovers- this was 1972. Just 13 years after 22-year old Buddy Holly was tragically killed. Holly would have been an elder statesman to the 3 future icons on this old clip, and at only 35 years old surely would have appeared with younger musicans from time to time. They all revered him, too. In fact, it's well known that Dylan saw Buddy play in Minnesota just a couple of days before the plane crash took Holly's life.
3244gorilla, you forgot to mention the, in my opinion, 3 top American-born bands ( in NO particular order by any stretch of the imagination (1) Lynyrd Skynyrd, who was such a better band than commercial radio would lead you to believe (2) Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers and (3) the quintessential American band, the good ol' Grateful Dead.
There will always be young people who listen to "new music". There will always be old farts (like me) who will bitch, moan, and complain that today's music sucks compared to the music of "my generation". So as it was, so as it shall ever be.
Boonskee: If ya' have 2 LOOK 4 good music today, that - in and of itself - speaks volumes. In (55-76), it was PERVASIVE. There's sum good stuff now (Radiohead, Beck) - Beck's "Volcano" would be revered in my day -but where's the prollific excellence of Beatles, Floyd, Stones, Dylan, Hendrix, Doors, Zepplin, Young, Steely Dan, Marley, Walsh, ZZ Top, Allman Bro's., King Crimson, Robert Fripp, both Elvis', Simon & Garfunkel, Joplin, ETFCKNGCETERA?
@mrfailford no your not! there's always comments on here saying "im only a foetus and i love this....", age doesn't have anything to do with preference and realisation of brilliance. i'm 17 by the way!
@mrfailford i know EXACTLY what you mean. and when people that call this 'shit' listen to shit like LMFAO or dubstep, its the most frusturating thing in the world...

It's stuff like this that makes me happy to be old. I got to know music this powerful in it's time. Memories are what are lives are made of. I am superbly lucky to have memories like this as the foundation of a life...for better or worse.
sheez... talk about about some rough looking dudes. looks like they're all coming down hard from that trip they started back in the tour bus.... ahhh, and the wheels weren't turning.
WOW! I was at this concert! It was a fund raiser for bay area schools put together by Bill Graham and dubbed SNACK: Students Need Athletics, Culture, and Kicks. What a show ......
Shivers when I hear Rick . Greatest Rock and Roll singer of all time . Just one mans opinion. It Makes No Difference is my favourite song of all time .
What key are they playing in? I've been trying to figure it out. From what i remember, helpless is originally in D and Knocking on heavens door is in G. So F seems like a logical choice.
@telecasterman081095 You are correct, I noticed the Key change after I had posted that comment. I agree though, that would have been incredible. Bob and Neil are easily two of my favourite harp players.
@gillfordc you are absolutely right. It seems as if the young people have missed something we really got in the sixties and seventies, the real music.
@laulimor Nah theres hundreds of good bands. Maybe the young people you know are just misinformed. Anything on the radio is trash but if you truly appreciate music you'll find the good stuff. Music today is more original and diverse then it's ever been. You just have to look.
Everyone knows these two songs and performers. Just great. Seeing a photo of them together is beautiful. Strange though, Neil with a Fender and Bob with a Gibson.
@magda95lena NEVER wish to be older,,,:-) I used too as well,, enjoy the time you live in and make the best of it. some time you will look at 19 year old as kids and be like WOW ,,, but you can still enjoy music from all ages anyway that is the great thing

@pieman420 Man I wish I lived back then...Todays music is crap, my generation is shit. I'm 15 years old and I feel bad now that everyone dresses like prettyboy faggots and listens to this gay ass new music and wear all these fancy colored clothes and you have to live in this time...Do you miss living back then? lucky you lived back then in those times :)
@LUCKYJ3SS3: Lucky (heh) for you plenty of the great music from the '60s and '70s was widely recorded and has been seeping out of tape vaults into the digital realm, and continues to do so at a great pace. As you did here, find it and play it because it's just as good now as it was then.
@LUCKYJ3SS3 -- I miss it every day. I was about your age when this happened. It was glorious. There were also bands who sucked, but there were oh ...so, SO, many more who shined like the sun. The gods stepped down from Olympus for a generation. I feel privileged to have been young then. Rock on, young man.
@LUCKYJ3SS3 Hey being a pretty boy fag doesn't keep me from loving Neil as the greatest musician that's ever lived. And I know he wouldn't like you talking about other people that way so be cool dude.
where'd you get this picture of Neil Young, Bob Dylan and Rick Danko? Is it possible for you to send me this picture? I'll leave you my e-mail in your inbox if that's okay
This must have been part of the memorable Rolling Thunder Review tour where Bob had so many musician friends along singing songs of their own.Tour regulars included Joan Baez, Joni Mitchell,Ramblin' Jack Elliot,Bob Niuwirth,Roger McGuinn,Mick Ronson,Ronee Blakely,T Bone Burnett..
Bob invited local musicians to join in too when playing their towns.Ronnie Hawkins&Gordon Lightfoot did RTR Toronto sets.Bob intro-ed Gord calling Lighfoot: "one of my favourite songwriters in the world".
@Bobjb999 nope it was during tour with bob dylan +the band called "the big money tour" which both bob n the band both badly needed. i have a vinyl album with these two songs on it, neil young never sang on the rolling thunder tour. believe it -djw
@SuperJohnnyv lol, nice. What a combo! Thanks @spooks27
