  • i....i......i NEED

  • Ah yes Kashmir, one of the most iconic songs in the world by Led Zeppelin... and a complete moron in my Music class during a Melody Test was certain it was Bulls On Parade by Rage Against The Machine

  • that is one jacked up cello/ guitar

  • Perfect for the new age of instruments. Tell me the name of it, Stress the benefits of how an artist can switch or play with sounds musically....Then I am sold! By the way, I'm a music lover, poet, and co-producer. Bring that all to the table when I see this product.

  • *Meanwhile in the booth beside this*

  • SLAPTARD IDIOTS - YOU NUCK FUCKS WOULD FALL FOR ANYTHING!

  • soulful..

  • it does sound somewhat cello-like. The tone is really thin, though. Either way, it looks like a fun crossover for people who play the guitar, but don't want to learn a new tuning system. Every musician needs goofy instruments like these in their homes.

  • It's a TogaMan GuitarViol.

  • So is it a cello or a guitar?

  • I want one of these... Kind of reminds me of Sigur Rós' famous instrument combo, though this one would be nice to try out.

  • Oops, nevermind

  • Where can I get one of these?

  • so its pretty much a greel lira?

  • so basically, it's a viola da gamba?

  • It´s just a modified guitar -.- Copying a violin / cello

  • I thought this should be quite possible and have spent the last week imagining designs of my own for something similar, I am relieved to see I am not as crazy as everyone told me I was, lol.

I was told a guitar played with a bow would sound like a dying cat...

  • It's a modern viola da gamba, an instrument from the classical period that eventual was developed into the guitar. Very cool!

  • @rootesrefuge I think it was mainly used during the Boraque period, if I'm not wrong.

  • Kashmir!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • It is actually a modern viol, the bowed guitar of the past.

  • could the same thing be achieved by just raising a guitars action (alot) and buying a cello bow?

    please respond

  • @e5h8x3 not really, you'd have to outfit your guitar with a cello or bass bridge or build you own to raise the strings and curve them to allow you to have the same kind of positioning on the and allow the bow to hit the stings in the same way.

  • so... it's a guitar shaped violin...?

  • I'm quite happy with my 4-stringed cello ... :-)

  • That is a sexy Viol, but it is no guitar sir.

  • Some sort of an Arpeggione

  • I wanted to build an electric version of this with a normal electric. How feasible is that?

  • This extremely similar to a Baroque Viol.

  • DUDE, this is just like the modern version of ERHU which is a chinese instrument.

it is not a new idea guys, give credit to the chinese who made it

  • in spanish the name is viola da gamba it means something like legs viola

  • its awesome

  • Violin and guitar! Brilliant

  • i think that is an archtop guitar.

  • OH PLEASE! All you need is a modified bridge(with an arch) to put on a guitar and Probably a sound post on the inside of it from the potential increased pressure so the guitar doesn't cave in. Then there you have it! OF COURSE his looks fancy shmancy!

  • @celloprof You would also have to raise the neck and tilt it back to bring the action down and still clear the body while bowing. A little more development and he'll have a very nice Lyra Viol.

  • Looks like an ulgy viola da gamba, it is a god idea, but it is not new nor better than the original viol.

  • Awesome instrument, thanks for filming this!

Hey what is the song that he plays, starting at around @2:27?

  • Its like the chellow, combined with the violin, combined with the guitar look =D

  • @TheHellz0r Cello ;)

  • @Valcarion THx for correcting =D

  • That instrument was an ABOMINATION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • that's what she said

  • Looks like a version of the shamisen

  • OMG way too tight of a bow if its anything like a violin bow. also, what is the chords at 1:15? that few measures sounds amazing!

  • i like the kashmir just made me love it

  • :/ i had an idea of an instrument like that. too bad he invented it before i did :p

  • It's called a VIOLA DA GAMBA.

    They've been around for centuries

  • yes! thats what I was thinking xD

  • @guitarcapo actually it's a bowed guitar , it's more closely related to an arpeggione , but yeah it also looks and sound somehow like a viola da gamba

  • hm so basicly a bigger violin with guitarr stuff. I kinda like it :3

  • the electric version of this is the raw essence of cool... i'm thoroughly surprised these aren't more popular

  • Me too.

  • lol at 2:18!

  • SPARTANS! TONIGHT we sell all of our armor and pitch in for one of these things IN HEELLL

  • @StopTheMoti0n best comment ever!

  • its like a asian /italian cumquat

  • LOOK AT THAT BOW GRIP!

  • maaaan i want a guitar-viol so much... too bad i don't have $4,400 to just blow off

  • what a stupid title!!!!

  • quiero uno asi!!! mueroo TT babeoo

  • where can i get one??!?!

thats amazing! I love it! what is the web sight to order one at?

  • Fretted, bowed instruments with 6 strings called Viols have been around since the early 17th century. If anything, a 'Cello is a jacked up Viol.

  • Well cellos sound a heck of a lot better than this queer thing does. Cellos have also been around since the early 16th century. I don't give a flyin' flip about this jacked up crappy thing.

  • Then why are you fussing so much?

  • lol who cares? it sounds fine first of all. second, Paulthewalrus is right, a similar instrument has been around for a long time. third, whats wrong with it? if anything i makes it more versitile of an instrument.

  • @PaulTheWalrus68 Plus, there's the arpeggione. ;)

  • haha that should cost a lot... its a pretty cool instrument n he plays it good

  • wow thats like a fretted cello! thats kool xD

  • So what is it? The illegitimate love child of a cello and guitar?

  • lol

    hahahaha

  • Things like that were all over during the baroque period.

    like 400 years ago.

    pretty awesome

  • Looks like a similar concept to TK Instruments' 'Vicellotar' - shame Todd doesn't have any videos up of the custom instruments, but he made my cello (videos coming - it's the purple one in his custom shop pictures). Freakin awesome video!

  • That is soooooooooooo cool I want a cello but no is that thing cheaper?

  • yo i was the guy in the black shirt!

  • lol rock! how awesome is that instrument!?

  • sadly he wouldent let me play =(

but the bow is sweet =D

when i get the cash ill get one!

  • @CarlosvsGodzilla haha cool

  • @CarlosvsGodzilla was as in you are someone else now :O

  • Love it. Not a great fingerstyle guitar but it's not meant to be. It's a great opportunity for guitarists to take advantage of the expressive possibilities of a bow. Pluck a viola or cello and you'll find it's muffled, too.

  • Hell, pluck any of the classical bowed instruments. They have very limited sustain, and don't sound their best when played pizzicato. Even electric guitars tend not to sound that great when played without a pick.

  • I really don't care for the muffled tone. The worst of both worlds!

  • No offense Alamo, but, to me, anyone that allots what little brain space humans have to 'not caring for' or describing things as 'worst (insert whatever)' aren't living up to their fullest potential. Life is to short and precious to not like things, especially things that rock like Jonathan's instrument. Since the First Amendment rocks, however, I'm not demanding an apology. I'm just saying, try to expand on ideas rather than belittle them. Thank you for the comment though, keep rockin'!!! : ]
