This is a wooden barge on the Congaree River that was used to transport granite rock and gravel from the quarry at Columbia, SC down to Charleston. The Congaree had a lot of river commerce in the late 19th century. It even had a steam ship route from the Gervais street bridge at Columbia down to Charleston up until possibly the 1920's. The iron gates of the government locks just below Columbia were removed for scrap in WWII. The locks are still there as is the weir type damn.
thats an old river barge. they use to make them out of wood but found out that after years of use the wood would soak up water and would sink or go aground. and that one looks like it was used for moving rock at one time. it is not a ship but an old barge. great video though

It's a defletcor... they're made out of logs n all kinds of natural resources to deflect water around an eroding bank. Also, they work as habitats for any wildlife that needs it. Yes, they usually sink old barges like this for that reason... but that's my opinion on what it looks like. Not claiming to be a brainiac. lol
Is the tree growing out of the inside of the boat or from under it?

Its more likely a barge section. The wedge front and convex top (for water runoff and volume) hint at its marine past.

Its not a ship. It was not self powered, it never had steering, it had no bilge or pumps. It was just a tiny barge for doing some simple job.,

Slap on a little glue, some paint, hang a 40 horse Evanrude on her and off it goes.
