  • dude, that's a shun classic santoku right? 100$ knife right there. vg10 blade, damascus cladding 32 layers.

  • Lettuce or cabbage? Try making coleslaw with lettuce, tastes much better. Also add in carrots if its possible, adds a lil sweetness to the dish. Cheeeers!

  • I read the complaining about if this is cole slaw or not. Cole Slaw simply means cabbage salad. Yes we generally assume it means one specific type of food item. In the United States at least, cole slaw can be shredded cabbage with shredded carrot with the white dressing. That's what's served in most chain restaurants. But, mostly in the southern United States, often a vinegar and oil type sweet and sour dressing is used. It's a regional difference & is by no means an error.

  • Try adding just a bit of horseradish to this recipe. It's something my great-grandma has always done, and she ALWAYS takes home an empty bowl.

  • this is called tossing salad slaw.

  • thanks for this one jack.doesnt have to be covered in mayonnaise to be slaw y'all

  • is that a dish washer and dryer behind him?!?! LOL! this guys is awsome!, cooks great food GJ

  • This is the most delicious and filling thing EVER!! I will make it forever!!!

Cant wait to serve it with pulled pork sandwiches when it get hot out.....

  • what kind of cabbage

  • @doggonegirl12345

    white cabbage

  • lol, well check on that in 24 hours.

and well check on that in 24 hours. silly jack you repeated yourself.

  • Wow Jack. I was surprised by how excited you were about this coleslaw. I mean, coleslaw, how can it really be that amazing, but I tried it and I must say I am blown away by it! I cut this recipe in half just in case I didn't like it, but holy crap. It is absolutely fantastic!

  • Why not use a cheese or mayo dressing

  • In sweden we'd call that pizzasalad, it's served in pretty much every pizzeria around here.

  • I prefer it made with finely shredded cabbage, grated carrot, and mayo. Also use apple cider vinegar instead of white. Oh, and don't forget lots of fresh pepper.

Spot on with the sugar and celery seed I guess.

  • You are seriously delusional on the subject of cole slaw but help is close by. Go to the Original Pantry in downtown LA at 9th & Figueroa take a seat at the counter and the first thing they will do is put in front of you the best cole slaw in the world. And thick cut sourdough bread and pats of butter. Then they will take your order. Seriously dude, you need to go there.

  • Hi,

i agree with another viewer, this is similar to a german Krautsalad!

We put caraway in it instead of celery seeds, but i'll try Aunt Myrna's Version.

by the way, high class chefs sprinkle their veggies with sugar, it realeases more aroma and american cole slaw has to be a little sweet in my opinion!

Never doubt Aunt Myrna's recipes.... it's like in James Bond Movies...

"M" knows what to do... ;-)

    Joe from Germany

  • you should make and review bake pops (cake pops)

  • Looks yummy, never tried a slaw without mayo!

  • I never make any of these cause im 15.....But i LOVE the show. Keep it up Jack

  • @jakatak69 So true. When i was in the US this fall, i traveled from Chicago to New Orleans (stopped many places along the way) and i got all kinds of coleslaw served. All from this (big saladpieces and vinegar-based dressing to coleslaw with ketshup in it, and mayo and sour cream based cole slaw! So there you have it. A dear child bares many names, i guess :D

  • Looks great, I'm going to try this with agave syrup to cut down on the carbs and calories. I really her home style recipes.

  • @HOOLIGAN218 Coleslaw, sometimes simply called slaw in some American dialects, is a salad consisting primarily of shredded raw cabbage.[1] It may also include shredded carrots, and other fruits and vegetables (apples, onions, green onions, peppers), as well as various spices.

  • My mum has this amazing recipe for an asian coleslaw. It's not mayonaise based, so I guess it's more similar to this version that most :P

  • I use cabbage a lot, but am unfamiliar with celery seed. This could be a good introduction!

  • This is very close to our german "Krautsalat", which has the same type of dressing, but the cabbage is cut into very fine strips.

I wonder how this amazing looking coleslaw tastes :)

  • @Vorkhan it tasted sweet and tangy. made my glands tighten up on the first bite. Great clean flavor

  • That is not cold slaw that is salad

  • @oldylox123 Coleslaw, sometimes simply called slaw in some American dialects, is a salad consisting primarily of shredded raw cabbage.[1] It may also include shredded carrots, and other fruits and vegetables (apples, onions, green onions, peppers), as well as various spices.

  • You rock Jack!

  • Just curious, is that your real Aunt Myrna?

    Thanks

    R

  • @JimAsian1 it's my wife's aunt myrna who is now my aunt by marriage.

  • @jakatak69 I see, thanks

    Wonderful Shows!

    R

  • yuum!!!! but id loooooove a product review!

  • I made this with red onions, olive oil and a 50/50 mix of white vinegar and apple cider vinegar. I substituted stevia powder for the sugar as I live with diabetics. Otherwise prepared as shown, turned out awesome! Thank aunty Myrna for me! :)

  • @Lacider nice changes. I will try splenda in mine. Great idea since the sweetness is only for flavor and not texture.

  • my mother used to put the cabbage through the slicing blade on her food blender

  • looks good

  • lol u call this a cole slaw? u need to visit Jamaica and learn how the real yardie make cole slaw... DWL salad dat man.

  • ima cabbage eating fool. gonna try this tomarrow!

  • have you ever done the soda stream product review that would be cool

  • @bulldogthebigdog unless it's changed a lot, the soda stream machines make your drinks too fizzy. I'd dilute anything that came out of one of those with still water/juice/whatever

  • Hi jaktak69 if you are intristed in esay to cook light snacks try a egg-n-a hole. They are very good for light snacks and such. Recipie: 1.1/4-1/2 stick of butter in large skillet.2.put bread in toaster til golden brown.3.cut hole in middle of toast.4.put toast in skillit along with extra peiece(s) and egg.5. let sit/flip often for about golden brown and egg stays intact(flip twice to make shur).6(.Optional let egg still a bit runny).7.cut and enjoy! Hope you enjoy!

  • I agree with jemremyc. Coleslaw is mayo based. My family also cooked Pennslyvania Dutch style. When mom would make egg salad she always added vinegar and sugar to balance things out.

  • @bekayezme Coleslaw, sometimes simply called slaw in some American dialects, is a salad consisting primarily of shredded raw cabbage.[1] It may also include shredded carrots, and other fruits and vegetables (apples, onions, green onions, peppers), as well as various spices.

  • i love coleslaw!!

  • meh I think I'll pass on this one. Never been a big fan of slaw

  • where the carrot ?

  • Jack, I come from Pennsylvania Dutch country, and we call that "pepper cabbage" rather than cole slaw. The term "cole slaw" is only used to refer to the ones with the creamy mayonnaise-based dressing.

  • @jemremyc Coleslaw, sometimes simply called slaw in some American dialects, is a salad consisting primarily of shredded raw cabbage.[1] It may also include shredded carrots, and other fruits and vegetables (apples, onions, green onions, peppers), as well as various spices.

  • @jakatak69 I wasn't trying to attack you. Lol. I was just telling you that in my part of the country we have a different name for what you made. No need to get defensive.

  • @JoeBros8 it's the episode with the miracle blades

  • Wish I had some cabbage on hand :( lol. for everyone complaining about the sugar...this is cooking not baking, recipe's like this are meant to be adapted to your own tastes & likes LOL. For mine, I always use mayo [& yes sugar]..but I LOATHE bell peppers & would never put them in my coleslaw...STILL, I'm not on here complaining about someone else's recipe. (:

  • God bless aunt Myrna!

  • Im not really a big fan of cooking... but your show is awesome!

  • if you woundt add sugar, this would be pritty healty meal. Fats (oils) would just bring up calories, but sugar is kinda killer here.

  • @sawN1337

The sugar balances out the acidity from the vinegar, unless you like your dressing ultra-sour. Oil is a main component of practically all types of dressing.

  • what is the video when you slice the pineapple in half?!?!?!??!?!? i cant remember! ive watched all of them and cant find it!

  • I LOVE Aunt Myrna's recipes

  • Jack, if your ever in Pittsburgh, PA, you have to stop at Primanti Bros. They make a coleslaw like this that they put on their sandwiches and it is delicious!!!

  • Do I have to use the whole 1/2 cup of oil? That seems like a lot.

  • @naerials adjust dressing how you like it. I didn't use all the sugar. do what you like. there are no rules.

  • your greeeeeaaat.!!

  • Jack that recipe is called Harvey's coleslaw and is best if it set for 48 hours before you eat it. Tossing 3-4 times over the 48 hour period!

  • I dont really like cole slaw but always enjoy Aunt Myrna!

  • Finally a slaw without globs of Mayo and shredded carrots! Wonder if red cabbage would change the flavor too much though.

  • @TonixTech red cabbage would be awesome in this dressing. very good.

  • oh yeah!

  • "We will check on that tomorrow morning."

(Jack decides he can't wait that long.)

And we will check on that later."

  • nice editing. lol

  • thank you :)

  • Almost all vinegar-based slaw recipes need some sort of ingredient to balance out the acidity of the vinegar, hence the sugar. Try and make the same recipe w/o sugar and it's gonna be awful.

  • @Rocky1115 Thanks. You are absolutely right.

  • I'm going to try this today...My husband makes the best "mayo" base coleslaw...its his mothers recipe... I'm going to try this b/c we like to change things up a bit. :) I love watching your show!!!

  • I've never seen coleslaw like that, I've always seen it with mayonnaise in it. I'll have to try this!

  • er unless uk coleslaw is diff wheres the onion wheres the meyo kind of testure

  • @ishaycallie and carrot

  • Jack.... Ive been watching since how you cut a pineapple. Yes your shows are great and I love the show. But I was wondering can u make gumbo or anything with crawfish. Much love from New Orleans

  • 1) I swear cole-slaw is suppose to contain mayonnaise because it is doesn't then it just a slaw

    2) a good cole-slaw has shredded carrots & red cabbage (in my opinion)

    3) YOU PUT SUGAR IN SLAW!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

  • anyone else notice at 4:38 he didn't edit the video?

  • I like more of a savory coleslaw, can you make a good recipe without sugar? c:

Or would this one be fine if I just omitted the sugar?

  • Please don't put sugar in coleslaw. If you need to do that to make it taste good, something went wrong with your other ingredients.

  • The cole slaw I make only has mayo, carrots and salt with the cabbage

  • No offence Jack but your knife skills are pathetic. You tottaly should take some lessons and maybe make some episodes of that.

  • @SuiciderLT He already did that. And he filmed it.

  • Hey Jack, I'm really curious about how likely it is that drizzling the dressing over the slaw while it's just off the burner would wilt the cabbage. I was a bit surprised you didn't let it cool first. I am pretty uneducated when it comes to cooking, but I just figured a hot liquid like that would wilt any leafy greens.

  • Editing fail he said we will come back in 24 hours twice

  • Interesting, I was taught to use mayonaise in coleslaw, may have to try this without the celery seeds. See just how different it is.

  • This is AUNT MYRNA'S recipe.

You don't have to make it.

They put sugar in it if they want to.

ANYWAY, I love your videos, Jack!

Keep doin' what you do, brotha. :D

  • is that basically a salad?

  • @Bruhryeen Yess, but it's a type of salad.

Although he made it with sugar, like fastfood places do...

  • @Bruhryeen i hear you looks more like a salad then a coleslaw

  • @Bruhryeen Cole slaw IS a salad.

  • Someone got shot with a silenced pistol at 6:04

  • Sugar!? Gross.

  • never, put sugar in cole slaw! :s

  • @Glittergirlz4eva1 Tell that to KFC

  • @jakatak69

    That's why I hate their coleslaw !

  • @Glittergirlz4eva1 We always put sugar in our cole slaw.

  • @Glittergirlz4eva1 LOL about sugar. It's hiding in Spaghetti Sauce, too! You don't know much about cooking, do you?

  • 4th

  • I love coleslaw

  • Nice! love her recipes!

  • meh salad is for rabbits

  • Am i really first?

  • @pudidotdk Yes.
