the youngstown area isnt that bad of a place... as long as you stay in boardman, or dont get out of your car in the actual city. and the majority of people are not in poverty. in fact, there are quite a few millionaires, and the college here is great!
Tigerpuffer. Love that you noticed the guitar sounds like a Steel Mill. Then it quiets down towards the end. That is EXACTLY what it sounded like "here in Northeast Ohio" One day the mills were up and running. The next they were shut down and all was quiet.
When I die I want no part of heaven... I would not do heaven's work well, I pray the devil comes and takes me to stand in the fiery furnaces of hell... Incredible riff, Nils...touchin' the strings just with your fingers ('didn't realized of that point last time I heard this gorgeous song!!)
@MST720 Nils has played some lead guitar in Rising, Magic and Working on a Dream. Bruce himself has played most of the lead guitar parts in studio albums.
I bought that live as soon as it was released, have listened to this song at least twice a month since then, and still repeat Nils' solo over and over every time !!!
In my opinion, one of the best rock solos ever !!! Pure magma energy, it just fits the song so damn well !!!
@1bmarek Well, that is a really nice comment. My first time to see Bruce was 1974, just a Rockin Teenager....ready for some good music...Last year was my 299th concert for Bruce. I had hoped for 300, but I will be happy for all the times I got to see him live. You don't have to be from the US to love Bruce. He is pretty amazing and I am glad you know good music when you hear it. Peace :-)
Damn! Never knew Nils could play like that. The whole band vamps off his energy, Never knew he had that kind of stage presence, either. Kick fucking ass, man.
goddammit, i'm working my fingers off trying to figure out this solo by ear, since there isn't a tab of it anywhere.. and it's the first time im figuring a solo out without tab.. my god its hard....
Damn Nils you pulled off one of the best solo's ever, amazing.
This is in my all time favourite guitar solo. This is the opposite of the cold calculated technical guitar solos you can get from the Malmsteens of this world. This version of this song is much better than the folk one on the original album (albeit very good). Would have been a big hit had it been recorded like that in the first place.
I really think this album was underrated. These songs are so good, but recorded in a way that most people can't appreciate. This version just shows how good this song actually is.
Don't know what all this bickering is about, all I can say that this is one of the best songs ever written and performed by the best band ever. So if you don't like this song, you really have no understanding or appreciation for real music. Bruce is the BEST!!!

This whole concert is one of the most captivating things I've ever seen in my life...and I wasn't even there. A truly brilliant performance caught on camera, and I don't think I need to say anything, but the Nils solo in this song is BY FAR one of the greatest guitar solos I've ever heard, and should be more well-known. All the artificial harmonics and everything, he has such a unique style, and he knows when to play and when not to, or maybe Bruce tells him that. Either way, great performance.
EndeavorLeadGtr's: I believe You would be CORRECT, Sir!!! You being a Musician, I am betting that you know your Music and what you are talking about.THANK YOU!! for sharing with the less educated, informed and just down right hard headed on what fits the definition of GREAT Music. I cant say i like Bruce Springsteen, quite the opposite actualy (but he is a great musician (just as the guys from the E-Street band) dont get me wrong) Tough this song live is astonishing! And the solo from nils lofgren is the first solo wich nearly brought tears in my eyes.
SharpWalkers: Then don't say it. Educate yourself on His Music and then say you Love it. It won't take long if you pay attention.
