i think much of the magic in this song really lies in the interplay between waters and gilmour's voices. if you look at the " waterless" performance from pulse, or the times this song has shown up in solo tours ( whether " on an island " or the other " wall" shows, their is something missing when compared to this or the album or the original wall shows. the interplay of their voices is crucial to the impact of this song

We have got home from seeing The Wall at Manchester 28.6.11, the lastUK show of the tour and was blown away by the whole thing, it was wonderful. I have longed to see this performed ever since I first heard it in 1980 as a boy of 12. The whole thing was emotional and moving, it must have been amazing to have Gilmour there actually playing.
