Such an amazing performance! Really inspiring to anyone who likes yoga. It is unbelievable he performs with so much easiness in a regular carpet and not even on a sticky mat! So true.. mind and body has to connect. BKS is still alive at his age of 93. I have read in the book of swami Parmahamsa yogananda on his Autobiography of a yogi that the more lengthier the breath is the more lengthier the life span! That is why giant tortoise has life span of over 150 years with the their longest breath!

@heikg It's a holy marking called Tilaka usually worn by holy men or devotees of varying Hindu religious sects.

@heikg It's sandalwood paste or some kind of clay. If you look at other videos of him teaching or giving lectures you'll notice that sometimes he isn't wearing any or it's a different color. Usually red or white.

@OmtaThien I think that's because those chicks you say are already famous due to the body they were born with, and yoga is not but a simple plus. Intead, serious yogis are not necessarily born with great or beautiful bodies.

search for "kundalini yoga GURMUKH", she looks impossibly young for 58 years old. Also I think B.K.S.Layengar has a female student who was quite old but she looks very fit.

@OmtaThien Good question. The gentleman in this video looks slightly odd shaped compared to surgically enhanced and photo-shopped models because at the time of the video, he was 58 years old (born in 1918 and this video was recorded in 1976). Also, today's models consume perfectly balanced diet high in proteins with ~zero fat, however I know that Hindu yogis are vegetarian and the diet is usually high in fat (ghee) and carbs with very less protein which limits muscle growth.
