  • am i high?

  • now do it in minecraft >:D

  • What game is this?

  • @destrierofdark America's Army 2

  • @tonymyre311 Right. Thanks.

  • @tonymyre311 Lol. At least someone can find a use for this game :D.

  • Euclid will be so mad...

  • @columbus8myhw why would they be mad?

  • @MJDT11 ...because it's NON-Euclidean?

    And it's a "he" not a "they".

  • Awesome. I remember forging 5D maps back in the days of marathon. Good times :)

  • SIR ARE YOU A EXTRADIMENSIONAL WIZARD?

  • What kinda black magic is this!?

  • @Nwap00

    Portals.

  • Dammit, Portal messed with my perception of reality enough...

  • anyone played Prey?

  • talk about a MIND-FUCK?

  • is this consider new? the Q3 engine could already do this way back when it came out

  • @centercity1 I never said it was new.

  • YES! NOW WE CAN MAKE A REAL CTHULHU GAME! YA! YA! CTHULHU FTAGH!

  • It would be nice if they'd worked more on the warp zones in the engine. Perhaps allowing light blending and smoother transitions.

The new portals in UDK are quite nice visually, but the directions are backwards, making it a bitch to get them to work smoothly.

  • i swear this was in metro 2033

  • wtf with people talking about graphics ?! you can't be that dumb, no ?

    anyway, excellent video :)

  • Interesting how this concept is very old actually. Prey as far as games goes did it very well (though that game had other faults) But I remember playing an amazing level of Unreal Tournament 99 that cheated with this concept a bit.

  • laggy)) and i see where you put portals

  • Ooooh look. Flat surfaces with sharp edges.

  • @fruitsnacksrock Quaint, isn't it.

  • The mirror thing was already used in Prey^^

    awesome!

  • for something thats supposed to be better then the current system the graphics really look like halo 1 right

  • @unholysanta If you want better graphics, look at the first link in the description.

  • @unholysanta Kid, do you have any idea what this vid is about?

  • @unholysanta: Noob. This is obviously a test level with dummy textures without advanced shaders. I guess types like you would prefer a pre-rendered movie that would play forward with the W key and backward with the S key, as bling is all you care about, even when it’s entirely irrelevant.

  • Yeah, the first Unreal could do that, in 1998.

Though, it had a major flaw at the time - instant hit events were being lost at zone portals, so only actor-based objects could travel between zones.

The impact on the gameplay of such flaw makes the whole thing much less worthy when it comes to build a good action level. Nonetheless, it's still an attractive way to create some fancy zone-based teleporters.

I haven't touched UEngine2 and I'm curious if they managed to fix it somehow.

  • @CharonPL Nope, still the same. Hitscan weapons (like bullets) don't work, sound doesn't travel through them, and splash damage (from explosions) doesn't either. The only thing that does go through them, like you said, is actor-based entities like projectiles and players.

  • so its like a random level generator right?

  • what is this supost to be?

  • Great so now we have finally progressed to the same point we where at with the Build engine and Duke Neukem 3D. ill admit it looks a lot nicer but people where doing level designs like this in 1996, it's what made some of those old non linear levels so much damn fun. I hope someone remakes Tier Drops, best secret level ever.

  • I've been waiting YEARS for the ability to do that! In HL1, i couldn't do it (either that, or i was too lame), so i have given up on it.

  • @SeanDeigh13 Portal 2 is the first Source game with this ability.

  • @tonymyre311 is it possible to construct a closed square/rectangular corridor with only three sides? (AB, BC, CA) That was my initial idea

  • @SeanDeigh13 While I'm not sure what you mean, there's a limitation on how many portals can be seen on screen at once. I can't remember what Unreal's limit is, but in Portal 2 (Source Engine) it's 4. Once more than that are visible at once, it either draws the rest as opaque white squares (Unreal, like this video), or starts doing really weird things and starts drawing the contents of portals on top of world geometry (Portal 2).

  • are you a wizard

  • The game is Americas army I think?

  • @KennytheBboy Yep.

  • CTHULHU

  • Anybody can make many of those tricks with Tomb Raider 4 level editor.

  • what is this? game engine?

  • @MaxAmaSity No, it's just a level made with the copy of UnrealEd that's shipped with America's Army (which uses Unreal Engine 2).

  • @tonymyre311 o thanx im gonna try this.

  • this game looks like the next generation games of 2012. great graphics, sharp story, amazing gameplay, and extremely rich and detailed. the bottom line is: FAKE AND GAY.

  • @paradisegunshot Not fake at all :)

  • @tonymyre311

haha lolz... alright then... it's not ^_^

  • I want to have a complete non-euclidean game like this. Great concept btw.

  • gayest game ever -_-

  • what is the point of this?

  • @2583060 It's an interesting concept and kept me entertained for a while.

  • @tonymyre311 no I mean whats the concept? sorry that I am do dumb to see...

  • Prey has done that years ago.

  • That is absolutely amazing! But do bullets work with the portals and warps? If yes, then this definitely has a lot of potential.

  • @Nixitur Sound, explosions, and hitscan weapons (bullets) do not travel through them, but physics-based projectiles such as rockets and grenades do. Also, this was all removed in Unreal Engine 3 (this is 2), so there's not really much potential anymore unless you want to use an old engine.

However, the Source engine now supports it as of Portal 2, so if they ever allow source mods using that version of the engine, some interesting stuff could happen.

  • I wish we could make things like this in the real world.

    That would be crazy

  • Choppy

  • Trippy...

  • I smell a TARDIS

  • This would be good to make a StarGate game lol

  • I wish UE3 has this feature... UE had it, UE2 had it but it had some bugs and UE3 don't has it in any way :(

  • F*CKING INCEPTION!

  • Oh no.... You're opening the digital realm to Yog Sothoth.

  • @Link6746 Yeah, well said...

  • That rhythmic footstep noise is really starting to get to me.

  • This idea was already done over a decade ago. In 1999, a level designer named Wayne Young released an Unreal map based on the space station from 2001: A Space Odyssey using Zone Portals, and you could walk the entire ring with gravity staying relative to the player in each segment. In reality, each segment of the ship was it's own room in the map. I think even the retail Unreal release featured deathmatch maps that used similar tricks, although I can't remember with perfect clarity.

  • the same thing with metro 2033....

  • 1:10 think with portals

  • This is actually really easy in Marathon's engine, due to it's extremely weird 2.5D design...

  • It is a room inside a room O_O

    MAPCEPTION!

  • Just a few portals... :) It is used to create illusion of rotational stairs in mods in first Doom for example.

  • pointless and stupid. graphics look like dog dung.

  • What would noclipping through that look like?

  • @xXStormtrooper117Xx You'd be flying around in mostly empty space, seeing the various pieces of the level floating around unconnected. I'd take a screenshot if it didn't involve reinstalling America's Army to do it :\

  • its bigger on the inside!

  • WITCHCRAFT!

  • LSD the video game

  • Now add a portal gun to this map, just to take it up a notch.

  • This is how the TARDIS works.

  • This was the first thing I did with UnrealEd once I figured out the controls.Just a big. relatively simple "cube" room with no floor, filled with a tangle of walkways, piping, and a solid column of water stolen from Turok, and the walls were covered in holes that lead to the other side of the room, out of the ceiling, and so on. No floor at all, you could jump "down" to any point on the map.

  • *head explodes*

  • This situration just like the ending of the game metro2033, good jub

  • am i the only one thinking tardis

  • Mindfuck.

  • wtf is this portals 2

  • Time and relative dimension in space?

  • Argh mah brain

  • Anyone else thinking "House of Leaves"?

  • DAMN YOU EUCLID!!! IF IT WASN'T FOR YOU AND YOUR STUPID GEOMETRY, WE'D BE LIVING IN AWESOMESAWSE HOUSES!!!

  • @TheRealMGN001 Do you even know what you're saying?

  • @TheRealMGN001 He was Euclides.

  • In the Portal 2 Commentary, the designers talked about 'impossible spaces' by placing portals in doorways, allowing, say, a room larger on the inside than on the outside (He claims there's only one impossible area left in the game). This made me see the importance. Also, your movements through to the other rooms are a bit jumpy.

  • @P0RtalMan Yeah it's because "behind" the portal is the end of the hallway or whatever you're walking through, and you see that for a split second before it teleports you to the opposite portal.

  • @tonymyre311 This would be an awesome map to play on. Absolutely full of OH SHIT moments.

  • @P0RtalMan Portal: now with 100% more Tardis.

  • TARDIS ^_^

  • I declare this the ultimate definition of (positive) nerdism: creating computer game levels based on advanced math...

  • It's like a TARDIS...

  • My mind isn't full of fuck, it's made out of it now...

  • 1:10 Holy Snap Mind Fuck

  • Okay who the fuck divide by zero again ?

  • lol, Tardis.

  • The train station in Harry Potter has non euchlydian geometry

  • So this is how they came up with narbacular drop!

  • What happens if you break one of these walls? The world will collapse?? :D

  • I want to play some actual matches in levels that are messed up like this.

lol, better yet, try implementing a version of Portal with levels like this. SO MINDFUCK.

  • MATRIX..not lol

  • OWWW!!!! MY EYES! MY EYYYYYESS!

  • thats is so cool i think the only time i have ever come across non euclidean level design is batman arkham asylum during the scarecrow boss fights

  • My head is full of fuck!

  • Portals

  • @tonymyre311 seriously man, this is a REALLY clever idea.

Take the gameplay idea to a publisher, and they may like it.

I like the idea of puzzles requiring multiple paths in the same location in space. don't know how to say it better. Also, I don't know the right term, but you would definitely need to keep spin 2 as a maximum (i.e. it takes 2 rotations for things to appear the same) any more would just mess with people.

  • @42connorzielinski42

    Waitwaitwait......

You want us to limit the amount of Non Euclideness (totally a word) because players MIGHT find it confusing, and it MIGHT mess wit them?

Sir, how many dimensions do you live in?

  • TARDIS!

  • this totally messed up my mind, would be so much fun to play on once you got the basic layout down pat

  • You sick bastard! What have you done with regular spacial dimensions? lol amazing.

  • Some combination of Portal and this would be mind fucking blowing

  • the 5 th dimention lol

  • quite clever, i like this sort of thing, keep working at it.

  • Good stuff man. Portal meets CS?!!?!

  • Great place to spend taxpayer money.

  • @goose1212343

...making custom user maps like this one? Or did you mean the game itself?

  • Can you shoot through all this portals?

  • .... I want to play this so bad

  • What geometry is this? Hyperbolic?

  • Now you're thinking with Portals.

  • I've got a couple questions. Which AA is this, 1 or 2? Also, is it still possible to get AA1?

  • @cobian91 This is AA 2.8.5. You can get 1.9 on Filefront.

  • This is dildos.

  • I dont get it.

  • Now your thinking with portals!

  • They should use this in FEAR 3

  • R'lyeh has risen again, but this time the star gods didn't count a little thing called AMERICA!

  • Oh this is that new game from Activision called: STUPID CUNT

  • 神奇!!!!!!!!!!!

  • House of Leaves: The Video Game

  • @This2x4Skeleton

I've always wanted to explore the five minute hallway. Now's my chance.

  • It's bigger on the inside.

  • Looks like someone is Tesseract Jumping. You do know you can damage yourself on the cellular level by doing that. Good thing it's only taking place within a video game.

  • Apparently this is what happens when the Army designs game engines...

  • I N C E P T I O N

  • 1:09 - It's bigger on the insde :)

  • INCEPTION

  • WE NEED TO GO DEEPER

  • @tonymyre311 For hitscan weapons, couldn't you do the "Pac-Man level wrap" effect, and just take where the vector path and endpoints on one side of the portal hit and project them outward on the opposite side of the portal?

  • @ligaa9mm Possibly but as all this is is a single level for an unmodified game you'd never be able to do that, in America's Army anyway. Maybe someone could start making an Unreal 3 mod (and U3 already has better zone portal support) and make it into something decent though.

  • @tonymyre311 Like "Hazard: The Journey of Life" made with UDK

  • @tonymyre311 You could do this no problem with the first Unreal game patched to 227.

  • WWWWWAAAAAAAAAAATTTTTTTTTTT IS GOING ON!!! I thoroughly enjoyed this, thank you.

  • "that don't make no sense at all!"

  • This isn't CS?

  • Timelord's Army.

  • Just one (compound)word: Hypercube

  • if you were gonna do something in an FPS like this, why couldn't it have been a good game?

  • preparing america's soldiers for the battlefield of the future, M.C. Escher World!

  • @spartante83 Fuck dude, just knock that off. Nobody cares.

  • @spartante83 son i am disapoint

  • You need to make a TARDIS with this map design.

  • @sw2de3fr4gt I can't say man, I was just playing around with it and uploaded it because I thought it was interesting :P

  • @tonymyre311 OK, fair enough lol.

  • Neither of you see how "more confusing" could be "more fun"?

    @tonymyre311

  • @WakeTFU Exactly. I don't want a "win now" button in games.

  • Horror game + this type of shit in a fucked up haunted house = you being confused, shitting your pants and wondering what in the fuck is going on.

If done properly it could turn a scary game into sheer terror.

  • @duda202 Actually a few horror games have done stuff like this - the most notable example being Fear, which included a few hallucinations where hallways shrunk when your back is turned, etc.

  • @sw2de3fr4gt what the hell is the point of playing a video game anyways.

  • @sw2de3fr4gt what the hell is the point of playing a video game anyways?

The answer is just for "fun," in both cases.

  • @sw2de3fr4gt now we can have 'unreal' gameplay

kinda what i've been wanting, omething abstract & messed up... sort of creepy but not shock horror type

though i wouldnt want that in battlefield or something
