the real point about female oppression is about it in the middle east, under sharia law. Where women are stoned to death for being raped, sentanced to death for allow children to call a teddy bear muhammed. I don't think anyone with any sense thinks muslims in western society are being forced to wear the hijab. Saying that western women wearing make up is the same as middle eastern women wearing the hijab is just insane, I don't think a father ever killed his daughter for not wearing makeup.

Yes, Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was an orphan, but we know the family history of the prophet, I think a 5 year old kid can recite the name of prophet Muhammad's parents, grandparents, uncle, etc. He is definitely an Arabic. Besides, Islam does not belong to a culture, ethnicity etc. It's the religion for all. It's the soul & teaching of Arabic that's matters.

Interesting film although it did not present the issue of hijab in an objective manner. Once again, hijab is being portrait as the one an only way by which a woman can attain an inner beauty. That those who have chosen to wear the hijab are the enlightened ones and those who have not are exploited and victims of consumerism. There are women who wear the hijab who are rabid consumerists and in contrast, there are millions of us unveiled women who see consumerism for what it is!

For a Mill or more, I would not act if I do not believe in the cause of a film.. Though the message is healthy. How many women´s face, I did witness before and after wearing the Hijab, the difference in the appearence was substantially obvious. Hijab makes a woman look more elegante, attractive, and respectable.

Sadly it was not but until the end where I noted the two were one. There were some well raised points, and, at another, methinks, an ironic one pertaining to the word smithy - or perhaps it was meant to be as such - to this end I refer to the comments on extremism, where neither side of the discussion seem to raise a particular potent claim.

the true question is why do women in islam cover their bodies at all? the answer has nothing to do with modern commercialism. the true reason is that the image of a womans body excites and mans senses. That view of a womans body being wicked began as Islam converted arabs who still worshiped Ishtar, making attraction a vice of evil when in fact it is only natural. the sexual repression and the demonization of sexuality is the cause of islams abuse of women, violence and hatred to others.

Actually there is a verse in the Qur'an calling for all believing women to wear hijab. If you are a Muslim woman you hijab because Allah said to, not for any other reason. Just like the video points out, everyone is a slave to something whether it's the media or the belief in a higher being. A woman wearing hijab oppresses a man's "right" to objectify her and that's why there is such a big deal made about it. If no one is forcing me to wear hijab how am I oppressed?

There is somethingt in English called Chastity, though it has become an archaic term now. The impact on a society where people prefer chastity is vert positive since I have seen both types of them. But here in west for anyone to want to remain chaste does not fit in. In anyway people are forced to follow how the society is.

when the women heard the verse that told them to take the Hijab or headscarf to cover their beauty, the first thing they did is head to their homes and started cutting fabric to make their headscarfs.

This is not an equal footing. Yes. I do agree even, women are treated poorly in the west. But much of that is their own decision making. In the Islam, supposedly they are protected by men. Women don't need protection from themselves.

You sound like my mother. I don't know what country you are referring to but of the Islamic countries I know, there are women who wear hijab and those that don't. I have friends that travel to Iran and Pakistan and don't cover and never got stoned. In UAE half the society is in hijab, the other half in mini skirts and bikinis.

you dont quite understand the concept of hijab yet. Hijab is to protect women from being treated like sexual objects. Islam teaches that women are not to be seen like sexual dolls but to be treated as a rightous and spiritual queen. The hijab is simply her crown. Even the bible encouraged all women to wear hijab calling it a sign of authority for the woman's head. Infact in the 7th century not all women were allowed to wear hijab, the prostitutes walked around bare chested without hijab.

that is usual, why muslims women look this, that? this shows that western women are primarily image oriented, and dont say its not, i am a graphic design major, and i know why those advertisements have those images, so women=sex, thats the formula, so when westerners see women they are expected to be sexy and showy, look at your clothing stores, and go to adult stores, see resemblance? but to see a women covered is hard to accept if you are used to seeing clevage, and legs all the time.

There is huge lack of logic as far as Islam is concerned. They are so afraid of being 'sex toys' although there are not that many people in western countries who refer to others as 'sex toys'. Interesting, isn't it? We see humans first. Islam creates a sex phobia which ends in Muslim heaven, full of sex slaves. Can that be good? It is jumping from one exaggeration to another, clearly showing sex obsession. I would recommend a psychiatrist.

I STRONGLY DISAGREE WITH YOU!! islam is in fact referred to as the "COMMON SENSE RELIGION" we are not affraid of being sex toys the idea is not suppose to reduce our sense of humanity to a wild beast, only desiring sex, food, etc. We are human beings so don't forget that. There is not sex phobia the concept is control sex is scientifically and psychologically proven to be a powerful desire, disagree porn and sex can be JUST ADDICTIVE AS CRACK, HEROIN, ALCHOL AND NEEDS THEAPY FOR TREATMENT.

Islam is not for the mentally ill or perverted people. It is a way of life where everything is not simply allowed, there is always a rule of law to follow. Islam doesn't create a society which naked in everything that they do. Sexual relationship requires legal marriage so the women will have security, protection and an identity for their children. Free will and free choice are simply basic human rights, superrnovvva. Choices done out of fear and imposed restrictions, even if good, are not much worth if you compare them with the right choice of an individual being an act of his or her free will.
