@MARK22MASS i do not have envy he is so overrated and does not do anything spectaclur he is too slow ,lacks pace and has poor ball control that is wh romario sucks fernando torres is even better
@andresiniesta1234567 .rofl you are obv a 10 year old twat hence you pathetic name.romario had one of the fastest accelerations in modern football.poor ball control?rofl.ust stop.maradona, sir bobby robsson, baggio, giggs, etc, etc, etc say otherwise.torress?who the fuck is he compared to romario you absolute idiot.how can you judge one player by seeing one game on fucking youtube? lacks pace.rofl see what sir alex ferguson has to say about that.just die already.
@andresiniesta1234567 Romario sucks???? My God, what a bullshit!!! He made more than one thousand goals (only Pelé score more goals), he won a World Cup, was chosen the best football player in the year 1994, and you came whit Fernando Torres???? Couldn't be more stupid that comparision. Do you have seen him playing alive, or are you too young??? Because I see him alive, and I know that he was one of the best players in the world.
@andresiniesta1234567 There are no comments and no doubts against facts. I'm not his "fuckin fanboy" as you said, I'm just too smart for you. I understand some things that you can't understand. And more: You're a fucking asshole.
@andresiniesta1234567 .no hes really not.could any striker finish a play as well as him?not a chance.his technique, ace and ability tot shott/pass without nay backlift while runnning made him unique moron.again shut the fuck up and keep playing your little fifa game instead.stick to watching overrated shits like andy carroll, torres and rooney.
Quins records!!
@andreyus08 ESO ES LO QUE TU CREES, ROMARIO ERA DELANTERO Y MESSI ESTA EN TODO EL CAMPO, MESSI DEFIENDE, HACE PASES GENIALES AL ESTILO MARADONA, ES MAS RAPIDO, CON GOLAZOS DE FANTASIA, ES TODO UN MAGO EN EL CAMPO, RECUPERA BALONES, ROMARIO NUNCA RECUPERABA BALONES MUCHOS MENOS SE IBA A DEFENDER SU CANCHA, ERA POCO SACRIFICADO, YO LO VI JUGANDO Y MESSI ES MEJOR Y POR MUCHO.
@acid1988100 sim, a melhor defesa atual é conseiderada pela maioria a do Man.
Good old days. I will never forget them. I've been a Barcelona fan in 20 years. In the season 93/94 they were very strong and won the League. Who does not remember, Ferrer, Sergi, Nadal, Koeman, Guardiola, Bakero, Laudrup, Stoichkov and Romario? They did it all excellent that time. I never really liked Cruyff their former coach, but he did a great job anyway. Lets hope Barca always will be one of the top teams in the world.
Who are you? Saying that Ronaldo was better than Romario just shows that you know nothing about this sport. In Brazil, we have no doubt. Romário was better. (Both won world cup) But Romario was genius. The best strike ever. If europeans doesnt agree, i'm sorry. Europeans are sick.
Tricks, skills, positioning, technique, with head, kick. Killer. In their prime, romario was faster. Thanks, Romario. p.s. Ronaldo was a genius too, world class.
A week before these match Romário received the terrible news that is father had been kidnaped in Brazil and close himself to the press in his hotel room. In the day of the game he does THESE?! GENIE! PURE GENIE! PURE TALENT!
The best Barcelona team voted in Catalunha Jornal Sport: Zubizarreta, Albert Ferrer, Puyol, Migueli e Sergi Barjuan; Pep Guardiola, Johan Cruyff e Diego Maradona; Lionel Messi, Ronaldinho Gaúcho e Romário.
@moraesscher1 Ok. Romario above ZIdane and Ronaldo? Explain.
Zidane was a master, and played world class for almost 10 years.
Ronaldo's talent was unbelievable, still he played good for PSV, Fantastic for Barca(1 season), and for inter(1,5 season). The level Ronaldo produced at Barca, Inter and Brazil from 1995 to 1999, was much higher then the top-level of Romario.
@totaalvoetbal Romário was much better. Ronaldo was great but durign his whole career in Euroep won just one league title, Romário was a winner. He won the first Copa America for Brasil after 40 years, he won the first World Cup for Brasil without Pelé. He had a long career being succesful wherever he went. In 2002, being 36, was the best brazilian striker in the world cup qualification. He is a genius and with Messi the best player i have ever seen (I still put Romário little bit higher though)
@totaalvoetbal Yes, I'm sure I speak on. The problem is that I am Brazilian, I can not speak English, I find it hard that I can pass all my arguments for you.
Romario was the most regular player I've ever seen play. He stopped playing with 41 years playing in the first division of the Brazilian championship playing at a high level.
With 39 years was the top scorer of the Brazilian championship.
@totaalvoetbal If assumptions were worth something, I would say that if Romario attend the three cups that did not participate, he would be the highest scorer of all World Cups in place of Ronaldo. I could also say it would be world champion with the others in 2002. And with him on the field, France did not win easily in Brazil in 1998. I can say that he would resume in at least one more world cup. That is, I want to show what assumptions are not part of an analysis on the players.
@totaalvoetbal You're picking up pieces of Ronaldo's career to compare with pieces of Romario's career. You do not do so. We think they did in their entire career.
Romario And it has a large advantage. If it lasted much more pro football than Ronaldo was on his own merits. Romario had the highest average of goals in Europe as I have shown, had the highest average of goals in the Brazilian team, and has the highest average of goals in Brazil.
@moraesscher1 Pieces? No, i compare there time for the national team and the same teams, that is the best comparisation ou can make! If you want to compare Ronaldo & Romario, then compare Romario with the Real Ronaldo(before his inyuries).
Romario played at a great PSV(they had won the Europa Cup 1 in 1988) and a briljant Barca(EUropa Cup 1 winner 1992), Ronaldo didn't, that is the main difference.
@totaalvoetbal Romário scored all the important goals and assits until the Worl Cup final and he only disputed one World Cup. Scolari called him only 2 times to the World Cup. 2002 Qualifcations AND HE SCORED 7 GOALS!
@totaalvoetbal They played together in 1997, the year Ronaldo was in his best physical form and technique, Romario had 31 years, and even then Romario was the biggest highlight of the selection. Has more goals and again proved very decisive.
* Romario has only 7 years in Europe and still has more artillery than Ronaldo who had 15 years of her career.
* Even with more time than Europe Romario, Ronaldo could never be a scorer Champions League => Romario was twice.
@moraesscher1 1997, the year Ronaldo was in his best physical form and technique. in 1997 he was not even 21 years old. Still, Romario scored 4 goals more, ronaldo diliverd 7 assists more!
@totaalvoetbal Romario was more technically gifted than ROnaldo, and a more complete striker. He did all the things that Ronaldo could do, but was a better header and finisher, as well as being able to shoot decent free kicks and having a better positional sense of the field. Ronaldo was a futsal player in his pre-injury prime, able to dribble at high speed during his explisve runs (better than Romario, btw)... but that was it. As a futsal player, he relied heavilly on physical form.
@fdief ''he did all the thing Ronaldo could do.'' Are you serious? Ronaldo's dribble and technique was far better. Romario did have a better finish. ''Better position sense of the field.'' Who Romario? He was a genius in the box, unlike Ronaldo wo could play also great out side the box. Romario a more complete striker? Ronaldo was a better: passer, allround play, dribbler, technique & skills. Romario had a better finish, he waited for his chance in the box, where ronaldo was all over the field.
@totaalvoetbal Yes he could. Check his early years at Vasco, when he was very much prone to dribble at high speed against 2,3 or 4 defenders. He wasn't as spectacular as Ronaldo though, and had a physical disadvantage, being short and not that strong (Ronaldo would very frequently use his physical strengh to wrestle through defenders). Romario had to avoid contact, so he became an even more objective player. And, yes, he had a better positional sense than Ronaldo, PERIOD. This is a fact.
@fdief I watches the cames, and still his dribble isn't at the same level of Ronaldo, not even close.
''And, yes, he had a better positional sense than Ronaldo, PERIOD. This is a fact.'' No that isn't a fact, that is just you're opinion! Yu can't give me proper arguments, so you say these childish things...
@totaalvoetbal It ain't childish. I'm giving you facts you didn't even know, but this, obviously, this is my opinion. I've been watching football since the late 80s and have watched Romario and Ronaldo's entire careers, not only their european ones, so I guess I have a fairly decent understanding of the facts. I'm not the sort of superficial fan that looks for isolated individual plays on youtube and creates a conclusion from them. I've been there, I've watched entire games...
@fdief That is great (i have watched far before the late 80's), and i respect you're opinion. I just don't agree. When you compare Real Madrid Ronaldo to top Romario, romario would be the better player. But when you compare them both in there prime... Ronaldo was just to good (for Romario).
@totaalvoetbal .lol ronaldo >romario?lol please. ronaldo relied on direction and speed changes, look at him after h couldnt do that. even before he didnt have the technique or finishing genius of romario.
@laudrup90 Yess, look at him at the WC'2002. Look at him at Real Madrid. All those inyuries, overweight, and still he was one of the best (with Zidane). Thanks for the reminder!
@totaalvoetbal .world cup 2002?lol rivaldo was the best brasilian player not ronaldo, and at real madrid he did nothing after the first season.nothiing.so yh best player?no.
@laudrup90 Did i say that Ronaldo was the best at the WC'02..? No. He did nothing after his first season? you are a joke: wtach ronaldo 2003-2004, watch 2004/2005, watch 2005/2006.
You are right he did nothing... Nothing but playing excellent!
@totaalvoetbal .yh and what did he do that was productive for the team.even c ronaldo who doesnt even compare to onaldo has been better for real madrid.
@987costa He was productive, but he was not in his best shape. And he still did amazing things. Just watch the videos, i haven’t seen that close controll, dribble on c.ronaldo.
C ronaldo can play 89 minutes terrible, and score 2 goals. His physique is amazing.
It is not just about goals. Otherwise G. Muller would be the best player!
@totaalvoetbal .also he was a brillaitn player before his injuries but a good striker doesnt need to dribble through the entire team to goal.its all about positioning, technique, finishing and geniues which romario ahd in drves. ronaldo dribbled his way to retirement aged 34.
@laudrup90 You are right, because Ronaldo could do it all: positioning, technique, finishing, genius plays, and he could dribble the whole defence. (watch ronaldo all goals barca).
@totaalvoetbal .do it all?and yet oliver bierhoff outscored him in his peak year in 1998 in seire a for udinese lol udinese.regardelss of his amazing dribbles, and skills, there are farmore effective players i would rather have.
@totaalvoetbal Bergkamp was a good player but never managed to take the selection of their country is one of the world cup final or win it, the real idol play against all the difficulties and shines in moments when his team needs more then I can say strongly that romario Bergkamp was better than
You disagree? so what Bergkamp won the tournament important?
@milkerloko1 If you read my posts well, you will understand that i took Bergkamp as an example. Just to make it clear: Romario is a much better player then Bergkamp.
@totaalvoetbal .besides he didxnt deserve wolrd player of the year in 2002 just like zidane didnt deserve it in 2003.henry was the best striker during 2001 to 2005.
@987costa I don’t take the world best player elections serious, from thw late 90’s. And Henry indeed deserved at least 2 world player of the year awards.
@totaalvoetbal .hardly.romario ahd better technique and was THE FINISHER. ronaldo was great but the number of chances he would blow in a game was just too much.
@totaalvoetbal Romario, beisdes being a great finisher, was also a great, amazing passer, and had great vision of the field. He would set spectacular goals to his teammates just as well as scoring ones. Romario would also come back frequently to get the ball and set up attacks. And his technique and skills were WAAAAY better than ROnaldo. This is somenthing that can be checked by watching Ronaldo at 30, in 2006, and compare it to Romario. Romario was a clearly superior player at the same age.
@fdief Dumb comperisation. Ronaldo was well over his prime. Romario had a longer carrier. But if you compare the players on there prime, then romario isn't close to ronaldo.
I never saw or heard someone say that romario ws a great passer, with vision. So in my opinion that is just not true.
@totaalvoetbal Romario, due to his great technique, was able to adapt his style as age came, becoming less a striker and more of a supporting player. Ronaldo, after losing his physical form, was finished as a top player. Today, at 33, he is not playing as well as Romario was at 40. When age comes, all you can rely on is your technique. Ronaldo never played that well in his end years, though still being a classy player. Romario, instead, was a powerful force during almost his entire career.
@fdief Because ronaldo had the belly of the king of mc'donalds. He has at least 20 kg's to much. Every romario fan (in this context) is saying the same: 'Romario was better when 40, then ronaldo at 33(or something). Whell it is irrelevant, because where talking about who was the best player, you rate that in the players prime. A period of plus minus 5 years.' Yess romario had a longer carrier the 1000 plus goals confirm that, and that is great, but that doesn't make him better then Ronaldo.
@totaalvoetbal .ronaldo was a brillant player before his injuries but you have to realise the media hype with him, even though he deserved it more than people like beckham andc ronaldo.oliver biehoff outscored ronaldo in the 98 season when he was is inter milan.
@laudrup90 I don't believe what the media says, i saw him play with my own eyes. My judgement is baised on that, not because of the media hype. Stupid argument!
@totaalvoetbal .people raise their opinion on what media says, thats not stupid.whether you do or not, i dont really care,i was just stating.romario is regarded better than ronaldo in brasil for brasilian football.
@987costa That is the opinion of other people, i do respect them, but don’t agree. And maybe over a decade the Brazilians will appriciate Ronaldo more, he stopped playing last season. But that is just a guess.
@totaalvoetbal I mean, romario was still the main striker of the team at 36, during the qualifying to World Cup 2002. He didn't go to the Cup due to a falling out with the coach, not because of his on-field performance (which was fantastic, btw). At 33, Ronaldo is a retired player. And, trust me, at least half of the goals Romario scored were not inside the box.
@totaalvoetbal Romario was much more technical than Ronaldo. So much so that when age was coming he was able to adapt his football, so he played until 41 years of being extremely goalscorer.
Ronaldo always relied heavily on a physical form. So now it's over pro football.
Retires next year, he is fat, and this has nothing to do with her injuries. He's 34 years old and over. At this age Romario was still the world's most powerful center forward 36 years and would play the World Cup as a starter.
@moraesscher1 Being a extremly goalscorer has nothing to do with technique. Look at Inzaghi(37 years old and still scored 2 goals against real madrid). Those goalscorers have a unhuman instinct in the box. Afcourse Romario is a better footballer then Inzaghi.
Look at the stats i gave you before his inyuries, compare that, same national team, same clubs! And Ronaldo has the better stats, even though Romario is the better striker, Ronaldo is the better footballer.
@moraesscher1 The all-round play of Ronaldo was muc better then that of Romario. Romario was a better striker, better in the box. But that's it. The things Ronaldo did, romario couldn't do that. The technique, speed, dribbels, even passing, Ronaldo was the better footballer with a difference.
@totaalvoetbal Also, Ronaldo missed the sensibilities that Romario had. Romario was a street player, a 'várzea' player, and therefore learned improvisational skills that a futsal player normally does not. You see, futsal is played on a verys smooth pitch, and focuses heavilly on fast dribbling skills on the ground and fast reactions, which Ronaldo excelled in doing. Romario, instead, was a classic brazilian player, that learned his play in uneven pitches that demanded great air control.
@totaalvoetbal No, it's not untrue, this is the story. I'm talking about creation of your own footballing identity. Romario was a 'várzea' player, he was not and academy player, did not build most of his conditioning in smooth pitches. This is very much what characterizes his play, improvisation and quick solutions. Ronaldo was a futsal player as he once attested himself, and that was very clear in his early play. This is not a bad feature, it's only different.
@totaalvoetbal Upon seeing a line of three defenders, Ronaldo would try to pass through them using his great fast ground dribbling and devastating pace, in order to get closer to the goal. Then he would either dribble past the goalkeeper or shoot the ball throught him. Romario, instead, would have a different perspective. He would look at the defenders and the goalkeeper and try to lure them to open a space so he could have a clear view of the goal or, maybe, simply lob the ball.
@fdief So Ronaldo could do things on his own, where romario was relied to the situation. Ronaldo could create on his own, because he was a great force. Where romario had to wait untill the defence made a mistake.
''Ronaldo would bring the ball from behind and Romario would set the goal, always with great flair.''
Seems that Ronaldo did the most difficult job and still delivered more goals plus assists...
Romario is a Legend, a wonderfull player, but not better then Ronaldo.
@totaalvoetbal To say that Romario relied on the situation or had to wait until the defence made a mistake is, quite frankly, ridiculous. If this was so, he wouldn't have scored that many goals and certainly wouldn't be considered the great player he was.
And while they were playing together at the Brazilian National team, ask anyone who watched those games: who was the brilliant player of the team? Who scored more goals and set up the greatest goal chances? Romario was the king, baby.
@fdief No, he still scored so many goals because he was a genius in the box. Ronaldo was a one men army, but his passing was also great, so complete. Where romario indeed relied to much to the situation.
I saw most of those matches, and my opinon is that Ronaldo was the best player, even then. Ronaldo gave more assists, the stats is also on this page, in another discussion, so you can look it up.
@totaalvoetbal I usually don't do this, because I don't think it's a fair example of a player's prowess, but you just have to ask yourself who was most important: Romario at WC 1994, or Ronaldo at WC 2002? Romario was called up to save Brazil on the last match of qualifying and instantly set up a new standard to an otherwise unconvincing team. He really added bite to the attack, and made a huge impact to the way the team played. Suddenly Brazil became a force to be reckoned.
@fdief In WC'94 romario was amazing. Same for Ronaldo at WC'98, exept the final, but that wasn't Ronaldo's fault. That was higher power. Romario also failled in the final, but that was true the best defender: Baresi.
In 2002WC Ronaldo was over his prime, still he scored 8 goals. For me Rivaldo was the best player of the tournament.
@totaalvoetbal Ronaldo in 2002 added bite to a team that lacked confidence and an attacking reference that should have been centered at Romario, who played 3 qualifying games and scored 7 goals. With Romario out due to (again) a falling out with the coach and NOT for technical reasons, Ronaldo had clear ground to assume the title of main striker of the team... with a little help from Ronaldinho and Rivaldo (the backbone of that team). Which he did quite well, btw...
@totaalvoetbal now, you must consider that the two played differently enough to complement each other. When they played together in the Brazilian team from 1996-1997, it was simply the most devastating attacking force in world football: Ronaldo would bring the ball from behind and Romario would set the goal, always with great flair.
@totaalvoetbal Romario in the only World Cup that could compete effectively gave the title to Brazil in a sensational way. After 28 years, Romario proved that Brazil could be a champion without Pele, one of the weakest teams of Brazil in World Cups, Romario stood out and made miracles.

Romario>Ronaldo.

@acid1988100 sim, a melhor defesa atual é conseiderada pela maioria a do Man.

GabrielGaliano 4 months ago
Good old days. I will never forget them. I've been a Barcelona fan in 20 years. In the season 93/94 they were very strong and won the League. Who does not remember, Ferrer, Sergi, Nadal, Koeman, Guardiola, Bakero, Laudrup, Stoichkov and Romario? They did it all excellent that time. I never really liked Cruyff their former coach, but he did a great job anyway. Lets hope Barca always will be one of the top teams in the world. Visca el Barca, Visca el Catalunya.

both had different style,, go ask a goal keeper who do you want to face romario or ronaldo then you will know who is better
bebars747 10 months ago
Who are you? Saying that Ronaldo was better than Romario just shows that you know nothing about this sport. In Brazil, we have no doubt. Romário was better. (Both won world cup) But Romario was genius. The best strike ever. If europeans doesnt agree, i'm sorry. Europeans are sick.
Tricks, skills, positioning, technique, with head, kick. Killer. In their prime, romario was faster. Thanks, Romario. p.s. Ronaldo was a genius too, world class.

@moraesscher1
Di Stefano, he was complete to be compared. He is underratted because he never played in the world cup.
totaalvoetbal 1 year ago 3
@totaalvoetbal Ahh ok, I do not know football from Di Stefano. Romario was the best I've seen play. But always speak well of Di Stefano.
Ranking of the play I saw: Romario, Zidane, Ronaldo.
moraesscher1 1 year ago
@moraesscher1 Ok. Romario above ZIdane and Ronaldo? Explain.
Zidane was a master, and played world class for almost 10 years.
Ronaldo's talent was unbelievable, still he played good for PSV, Fantastic for Barca(1 season), and for inter(1,5 season). The level Ronaldo produced at Barca, Inter and Brazil from 1995 to 1999, was much higher then the top-level of Romario.
totaalvoetbal 1 year ago 3
@totaalvoetbal Romário was much better. Ronaldo was great but durign his whole career in Euroep won just one league title, Romário was a winner. He won the first Copa America for Brasil after 40 years, he won the first World Cup for Brasil without Pelé. He had a long career being succesful wherever he went. In 2002, being 36, was the best brazilian striker in the world cup qualification. He is a genius and with Messi the best player i have ever seen (I still put Romário little bit higher though)
kikinozka 1 year ago
@totaalvoetbal Yes, I'm sure I speak on. The problem is that I am Brazilian, I can not speak English, I find it hard that I can pass all my arguments for you.
Romario was the most regular player I've ever seen play. He stopped playing with 41 years playing in the first division of the Brazilian championship playing at a high level.
With 39 years was the top scorer of the Brazilian championship.
With 34 years has 73 goals in 74 games in 2000.
moraesscher1 1 year ago
@totaalvoetbal Romario did more than double the goals from Ronaldo.
Ronaldo is already finished 34 years and retires next year.
Ronaldo stopped being called to national team after only 29 years.
Romario stopped being called with 36.
Where the two played, fans prefer Romario.
Romario for PSV's absolute idol.
A few years ago, research was done with the Barcelona fans.
The best striker of all time was chosen by fans Romario and Ronaldo did not.
moraesscher1 1 year ago
@moraesscher1 ''Romario did more than double the goals from Ronaldo.'' -- Well he played more matches, because of the inyuries of Ronaldo.
''Ronaldo is already finished 34 years and retires next year.
Ronaldo stopped being called to national team after only 29 years.
Romario stopped being called with 36.'' -- again the inyuries, and it isn't even a proper point.
totaalvoetbal 1 year ago 2
@totaalvoetbal If assumptions were worth something, I would say that if Romario attend the three cups that did not participate, he would be the highest scorer of all World Cups in place of Ronaldo. I could also say it would be world champion with the others in 2002. And with him on the field, France did not win easily in Brazil in 1998. I can say that he would resume in at least one more world cup. That is, I want to show what assumptions are not part of an analysis on the players.
moraesscher1 1 year ago
@totaalvoetbal You're picking up pieces of Ronaldo's career to compare with pieces of Romario's career. You do not do so. We think they did in their entire career.
Romario And it has a large advantage. If it lasted much more pro football than Ronaldo was on his own merits. Romario had the highest average of goals in Europe as I have shown, had the highest average of goals in the Brazilian team, and has the highest average of goals in Brazil.
moraesscher1 1 year ago
@moraesscher1 Pieces? No, i compare there time for the national team and the same teams, that is the best comparisation ou can make! If you want to compare Ronaldo & Romario, then compare Romario with the Real Ronaldo(before his inyuries).
Romario played at a great PSV(they had won the Europa Cup 1 in 1988) and a briljant Barca(EUropa Cup 1 winner 1992), Ronaldo didn't, that is the main difference.
totaalvoetbal 1 year ago 3
@totaalvoetbal Romário scored all the important goals and assits until the Worl Cup final and he only disputed one World Cup. Scolari called him only 2 times to the World Cup. 2002 Qualifcations AND HE SCORED 7 GOALS!
GabrielGaliano 1 year ago
@totaalvoetbal They played together in 1997, the year Ronaldo was in his best physical form and technique, Romario had 31 years, and even then Romario was the biggest highlight of the selection. Has more goals and again proved very decisive.
* Romario has only 7 years in Europe and still has more artillery than Ronaldo who had 15 years of her career.
* Even with more time than Europe Romario, Ronaldo could never be a scorer Champions League => Romario was twice.
moraesscher1 1 year ago
@moraesscher1 1997, the year Ronaldo was in his best physical form and technique. in 1997 he was not even 21 years old. Still, Romario scored 4 goals more, ronaldo diliverd 7 assists more!
totaalvoetbal 1 year ago 8
@totaalvoetbal Romario was more technically gifted than ROnaldo, and a more complete striker. He did all the things that Ronaldo could do, but was a better header and finisher, as well as being able to shoot decent free kicks and having a better positional sense of the field. Ronaldo was a futsal player in his pre-injury prime, able to dribble at high speed during his explisve runs (better than Romario, btw)... but that was it. As a futsal player, he relied heavilly on physical form.
fdief 1 year ago
@fdief ''he did all the thing Ronaldo could do.'' Are you serious? Ronaldo's dribble and technique was far better. Romario did have a better finish. ''Better position sense of the field.'' Who Romario? He was a genius in the box, unlike Ronaldo wo could play also great out side the box. Romario a more complete striker? Ronaldo was a better: passer, allround play, dribbler, technique & skills. Romario had a better finish, he waited for his chance in the box, where ronaldo was all over the field.
totaalvoetbal 1 year ago
@totaalvoetbal Yes he could. Check his early years at Vasco, when he was very much prone to dribble at high speed against 2,3 or 4 defenders. He wasn't as spectacular as Ronaldo though, and had a physical disadvantage, being short and not that strong (Ronaldo would very frequently use his physical strengh to wrestle through defenders). Romario had to avoid contact, so he became an even more objective player. And, yes, he had a better positional sense than Ronaldo, PERIOD. This is a fact.
fdief 1 year ago
@fdief I watches the cames, and still his dribble isn't at the same level of Ronaldo, not even close.
''And, yes, he had a better positional sense than Ronaldo, PERIOD. This is a fact.'' No that isn't a fact, that is just you're opinion! Yu can't give me proper arguments, so you say these childish things...
totaalvoetbal 1 year ago
@totaalvoetbal It ain't childish. I'm giving you facts you didn't even know, but this, obviously, this is my opinion. I've been watching football since the late 80s and have watched Romario and Ronaldo's entire careers, not only their european ones, so I guess I have a fairly decent understanding of the facts. I'm not the sort of superficial fan that looks for isolated individual plays on youtube and creates a conclusion from them. I've been there, I've watched entire games...
fdief 1 year ago
@fdief That is great (i have watched far before the late 80's), and i respect you're opinion. I just don't agree. When you compare Real Madrid Ronaldo to top Romario, romario would be the better player. But when you compare them both in there prime... Ronaldo was just to good (for Romario).
totaalvoetbal 1 year ago 3
@totaalvoetbal .lol ronaldo >romario?lol please. ronaldo relied on direction and speed changes, look at him after h couldnt do that. even before he didnt have the technique or finishing genius of romario.

Muller would be the best player!
totaalvoetbal 10 months ago
@totaalvoetbal .also he was a brillaitn player before his injuries but a good striker doesnt need to dribble through the entire team to goal.its all about positioning, technique, finishing and geniues which romario ahd in drves. ronaldo dribbled his way to retirement aged 34.
laudrup90 10 months ago
@laudrup90 You are right, because Ronaldo could do it all: positioning, technique, finishing, genius plays, and he could dribble the whole defence. (watch ronaldo all goals barca).

In 91 bergkamp and romario scored the same number of goals.
In 92 Bergkamp scored more goals.
In 93 Bergkamp scored more goals.
So based on your conclusion bergkamp is better than romario...!?
Especially when you consider Bergkamp was not in his prime, he was arround 22 in those seasons.
totaalvoetbal 10 months ago
@totaalvoetbal Bergkamp was a good player but never managed to take the selection of their country is one of the world cup final or win it, the real idol play against all the difficulties and shines in moments when his team needs more then I can say strongly that romario Bergkamp was better than
You disagree? so what Bergkamp won the tournament important?

@totaalvoetbal Romario, beisdes being a great finisher, was also a great, amazing passer, and had great vision of the field. He would set spectacular goals to his teammates just as well as scoring ones. Romario would also come back frequently to get the ball and set up attacks. And his technique and skills were WAAAAY better than ROnaldo. This is somenthing that can be checked by watching Ronaldo at 30, in 2006, and compare it to Romario. Romario was a clearly superior player at the same age.
fdief 1 year ago
@fdief Dumb comperisation. Ronaldo was well over his prime. Romario had a longer carrier. But if you compare the players on there prime, then romario isn't close to ronaldo.
I never saw or heard someone say that romario ws a great passer, with vision. So in my opinion that is just not true.
totaalvoetbal 1 year ago 3
@totaalvoetbal Romario, due to his great technique, was able to adapt his style as age came, becoming less a striker and more of a supporting player. Ronaldo, after losing his physical form, was finished as a top player. Today, at 33, he is not playing as well as Romario was at 40. When age comes, all you can rely on is your technique. Ronaldo never played that well in his end years, though still being a classy player. Romario, instead, was a powerful force during almost his entire career.
fdief 1 year ago
@fdief Because ronaldo had the belly of the king of mc'donalds. He has at least 20 kg's to much. Every romario fan (in this context) is saying the same: 'Romario was better when 40, then ronaldo at 33(or something). Whell it is irrelevant, because where talking about who was the best player, you rate that in the players prime. A period of plus minus 5 years.' Yess romario had a longer carrier the 1000 plus goals confirm that, and that is great, but that doesn't make him better then Ronaldo.

@totaalvoetbal .ronaldo was a brillant player before his injuries but you have to realise the media hype with him, even though he deserved it more than people like beckham andc ronaldo.oliver biehoff outscored ronaldo in the 98 season when he was is inter milan.
laudrup90 10 months ago
@laudrup90 I don't believe what the media says, i saw him play with my own eyes. My judgement is baised on that, not because of the media hype. Stupid argument!
totaalvoetbal 10 months ago
@totaalvoetbal .people raise their opinion on what media says, thats not stupid.whether you do or not, i dont really care,i was just stating.romario is regarded better than ronaldo in brasil for brasilian football.
987costa 10 months ago
@987costa That is the opinion of other people, i do respect them, but don’t agree. And maybe over a decade the Brazilians will appriciate Ronaldo more, he stopped playing last season. But that is just a guess.
totaalvoetbal 10 months ago
@totaalvoetbal I mean, romario was still the main striker of the team at 36, during the qualifying to World Cup 2002. He didn't go to the Cup due to a falling out with the coach, not because of his on-field performance (which was fantastic, btw). At 33, Ronaldo is a retired player. And, trust me, at least half of the goals Romario scored were not inside the box.
fdief 1 year ago
@totaalvoetbal Romario was much more technical than Ronaldo. So much so that when age was coming he was able to adapt his football, so he played until 41 years of being extremely goalscorer.
Ronaldo always relied heavily on a physical form. So now it's over pro football.
Retires next year, he is fat, and this has nothing to do with her injuries. He's 34 years old and over. At this age Romario was still the world's most powerful center forward 36 years and would play the World Cup as a starter.
moraesscher1 1 year ago
@moraesscher1 Being a extremly goalscorer has nothing to do with technique. Look at Inzaghi(37 years old and still scored 2 goals against real madrid). Those goalscorers have a unhuman instinct in the box. Afcourse Romario is a better footballer then Inzaghi.
Look at the stats i gave you before his inyuries, compare that, same national team, same clubs! And Ronaldo has the better stats, even though Romario is the better striker, Ronaldo is the better footballer.

@totaalvoetbal I make it clear that I respect all their opinions. Just do not agree.

I respect your opinion!

Romario, instead, was a classic brazilian player, that learned his play in uneven pitches that demanded great air control.
fdief 1 year ago
@fdief Nice story, but it is untrue. Ronaldo also played on poor pitches and still had a magnificent trap.
totaalvoetbal 1 year ago
@totaalvoetbal No, it's not untrue, this is the story. I'm talking about creation of your own footballing identity. Romario was a 'várzea' player, he was not and academy player, did not build most of his conditioning in smooth pitches. This is very much what characterizes his play, improvisation and quick solutions. Ronaldo was a futsal player as he once attested himself, and that was very clear in his early play. This is not a bad feature, it's only different.
fdief 1 year ago
@totaalvoetbal Upon seeing a line of three defenders, Ronaldo would try to pass through them using his great fast ground dribbling and devastating pace, in order to get closer to the goal. Then he would either dribble past the goalkeeper or shoot the ball throught him. Romario, instead, would have a different perspective. He would look at the defenders and the goalkeeper and try to lure them to open a space so he could have a clear view of the goal or, maybe, simply lob the ball.
fdief 1 year ago
@fdief So Ronaldo could do things on his own, where romario was relied to the situation. Ronaldo could create on his own, because he was a great force. Where romario had to wait untill the defence made a mistake.
''Ronaldo would bring the ball from behind and Romario would set the goal, always with great flair.''
Seems that Ronaldo did the most difficult job and still delivered more goals plus assists...
Romario is a Legend, a wonderfull player, but not better then Ronaldo.
totaalvoetbal 1 year ago
@totaalvoetbal To say that Romario relied on the situation or had to wait until the defence made a mistake is, quite frankly, ridiculous. If this was so, he wouldn't have scored that many goals and certainly wouldn't be considered the great player he was.
And while they were playing together at the Brazilian National team, ask anyone who watched those games: who was the brilliant player of the team? Who scored more goals and set up the greatest goal chances? Romario was the king, baby.
fdief 1 year ago
@fdief No, he still scored so many goals because he was a genius in the box. Ronaldo was a one men army, but his passing was also great, so complete. Where romario indeed relied to much to the situation.
I saw most of those matches, and my opinon is that Ronaldo was the best player, even then. Ronaldo gave more assists, the stats is also on this page, in another discussion, so you can look it up.
totaalvoetbal 1 year ago 2
@totaalvoetbal I usually don't do this, because I don't think it's a fair example of a player's prowess, but you just have to ask yourself who was most important: Romario at WC 1994, or Ronaldo at WC 2002? Romario was called up to save Brazil on the last match of qualifying and instantly set up a new standard to an otherwise unconvincing team. He really added bite to the attack, and made a huge impact to the way the team played. Suddenly Brazil became a force to be reckoned.
fdief 1 year ago
@fdief In WC'94 romario was amazing. Same for Ronaldo at WC'98, exept the final, but that wasn't Ronaldo's fault. That was higher power. Romario also failled in the final, but that was true the best defender: Baresi.
In 2002WC Ronaldo was over his prime, still he scored 8 goals. For me Rivaldo was the best player of the tournament.
totaalvoetbal 1 year ago 3
@totaalvoetbal Ronaldo in 2002 added bite to a team that lacked confidence and an attacking reference that should have been centered at Romario, who played 3 qualifying games and scored 7 goals. With Romario out due to (again) a falling out with the coach and NOT for technical reasons, Ronaldo had clear ground to assume the title of main striker of the team... with a little help from Ronaldinho and Rivaldo (the backbone of that team). Which he did quite well, btw...
fdief 1 year ago
@totaalvoetbal now, you must consider that the two played differently enough to complement each other. When they played together in the Brazilian team from 1996-1997, it was simply the most devastating attacking force in world football: Ronaldo would bring the ball from behind and Romario would set the goal, always with great flair.
fdief 1 year ago
@totaalvoetbal Romario in the only World Cup that could compete effectively gave the title to Brazil in a sensational way. After 28 years, Romario proved that Brazil could be a champion without Pele, one of the weakest teams of Brazil in World Cups, Romario stood out and made miracles.
