  • Wow, this is awesome! Thank you for sharing these with everyone!

  • Hell to the maker of this video. I work the grounds of the Otsego Golf Course and am wondering if you have any vintage history video of the course and or where I may obtain history video of the course. It use to be called Ryersons.

  • who shot the video? your grandma or your grandpa?

  • Good question. I don't know. Sometimes Grandpa shot it, sometimes Grandma, since Grandpa is in the shot or vice versa. I'm glad they shared and am impressed at the good camerawork throughout!

  • excellent footage

  • Interesting! In the last piece of the film I could spot my old house that I grew up in.

  • Monster Pierce Arrow at :45.

  • Thank you for sharing! As a native daughter whose family also owned a camp on the lake, I really enjoyed this.

  • Ah, Kingfisher Tower. Too bad it's never really used for anything. It'd be a heck of a house to live in, even if it is tiny... I'm gonna ask my grandparents if they have any old footage of Coops. We have a lake house there, and have plenty of current footage of the family and such. Would have to get it off the tape, though.

  • Remarkable video lipwak, it's a history book come to life.

  • The Narramattah is one of the twin boats that are still on the Lake, one is docked at the Busch docks at 3Mile Point, the other is at Sam Smith's (the only) marina for Jane's use. They're beautiful, modest-sized, gracious craft. Lipwak...contact me at

hotmail re help w/ the NYSHA in Cooperstown and your upcoming trip. Thanks again for

    the video!

  • Omg, i'm homesick now

  • So, do you think all the footage of people standing around and playing tennis is at Lakelands or could it be the CCC? Did both have tennis courts?

As for more video, I do have more but my mom wants to keep scenes of her family out of what I put on YouTube. She would be happy to give it to the NYS Historical Society though.

  • lipwak: That's understandable, but if you could upload all of the vintage videos that you have, do so, especially the ones with people in them. As modern technology has enabled us to have the privilege of having access to things one wouldn't have been able to come across before, these historical moments deserve to be viewed and appreciated.

  • Hi,

Thanks for the kind words. I am very happy that they have been so well received! I think I have uploaded about all that I can. The rest are personal scenes. I have given the source tapes to the NYSHA so they will hopefully share more of them in the best way possible.

    Cheers,

    John L

  • I do have more and want the NYS Historical Society to have it. I have tried to contact them.

AFAIK, they are not skeet shooting but shooting bricks! Mystified me but that's what my mom says they did! lol Shooting them out of the building? Wish I could ask them.

(And doesn't the shooting take place on a hillside whereas Lakelands would be by the lake, no?)

  • The NYSHA [in C-town at the Fenimore House] aren't overly responsive from past experiences. The hillside I assumed was near 'Star Field' or the old quary on Chicken Farm Hill - both are roughly adjacent to the original Lakelands property. [Lakeland Shores goes well into the woodside; "next door" is Lakewood Cemetery, Fairy Springs Park, and the aforementioned girls camp]

  • Hmm, I wonder if all the outside party scenes, tennis, etc are Lakelands rather than the CCC? Is there some CCC in there? My mom, daughter of the people who shot it (both Grandpa and Grandma used the camera), thought it was the CCC.

    Thanks.

John L, who's only been to Cooperstown once or twice, many years ago.

  • Lakelands was rather large in its acreage until the middle of the century when Lakeland Shores was developed. It is possible the skeet shooting was there. (That manor house is extant today and in perfect condition.) By any chance there is more video in the archives?

  • At time mark ~ 3:50 the manor house does not appear to be the CCC. It looks a lot more like Lakelands the Bowers estate which today no longer has the 3rd floor. In the speedboat the camera is filming the west side from the golf course onwards. You see the manor houses at Glimmerglen, Brookwood, Ann's Field, etc great stuff. Thanks for sharing!

  • The Chenango boathouse is around minute 6:16. It's 4 miles up on the east side of the lake. Footage right before that of the cliffs probably the same area. Nameburns and I went to camp there for many years (Chenango was a boys camp. We went to Camp Otsego, the Girl's Camp). The boathouse is no longer there, but to the right of the picture now stands a small cabin which used to be the Camp Otsego girls' lodge.

  • Thanks!

What's the Narramattah? And what's funny about the Chenango boathouse? (Which one is it?)

    Cheers,

    John L

  • great tour of the lake....the Narramattah? And the funny

    Chenango boathouse....thanks!

  • Really enjoyed this - hope your grandparents have a lot more footage!!!
