I actually prefer this to the original...yes, it was a great film for the 70's but I found it just plain dull and drawn out. The 2006 remake was just so much more realistic to me. People who saw the original first will say the opposite because they could tell it was cgi...but I who wasn't even alive in the 70's look back say that model ship and cheesy acting just didn't grab my attention.
In fact, the sound of people drawing is something I cannot describe to you, it's the most dreadful sound, and there's a dreadful silence that follows it
As much as comes to rogue wave, since I am a diver, I can only theorize that tsunami must have hit a reef or something like this to go up prematurely at an open sea, directly into a cruiser.
That's a pretty big wave.... Is that even really possible? I mean cmon, be honest. Maybe if the water level was low then yes, but if they're far out at sea than the wave wouldn't be more than a few feet high. Movies I guess...
@RegistrationCop its called a rouge wave and they can reach up to that hight, its very possible. i'm not sure of the possiblities of it turning a ship that large over like that, but rouge waves can get huuuuge
the explosions were back draft from the engines most likely or the propane used in the kitchen to cook ... even on a ship there is still things that can cause explosions to happen including if the ship is struck by a rogue wave causing it to capsize the possibilities are numerous to what may have caused the explosions
Yay for random explosions at 3:22. What disaster movie would be complete without explosions? Even on a ship, at sea, with no reason for such massive explosions?
Since the special effects were so expensive they had to make sure to reduce the number of survivors to minimize actor costs ;-) (And they knew they would have a hard time breakin even at the box offices.)
To think, this is an actual simulation/guess of what would happen to a modern day cruse ship if a rouge wave were to hit it........I pray this never happens in real life...............
This is only favorite scene in the movie!:) A lot of great special effects in it!:) Oh btw, what language is the subtitle? It looks German, but then and there I could be wrong.
this is like, my biggest fear. i can't imagine dying by drowning. it just sounds sooooooooo painful. and the fact that the boat capsizes... o god........... thats not good
me either...imagine you holding your breath with absolutely no air that you know you can always come up to..brave people in this movie....well...i guess the cruise is out for vacation this year lol
You do have a point...drowning MAY not be painful....but...it'll be quite unconformable before you body decided s to give up. but yea burning...I think is on the list of most painful deaths :P

LOL it looks so fake or is it? Hmmm
Maybe it happened at the right time when they had cameras

Inspite of all the great effects and choreography the 1972 version just blows this movie away.

If only they said "like a good neighbor, statefarm is there." they would've probably teleported to the statefarm building! :)

Tip of the day: See the original 1972 version tonight (or whenever; just see it). Best disaster movie of the '70s hands down.

Unless there were on a shallow water, clearly a fiction- tsunami at open ocean is no more than 30 cm tall.

why didn't the wave turn the ship up back again? Like it did in The Ideal Storm.
dAvrilthebear 2 years ago
Isn´t the wave a tsunami or poseidon, the sea god, considered the ship as an insult to his name don´t you think that´s the reason for the wave
