  • looks like Xenia needs to start voting for other people. what a group of morons! I love how politicians worry about how SAFETY GEAR is paid for, but everything from the chair and table they are sitting at, to the gavel they pound is paid for by tax payers.

  • Comment removed

  • Who is the moron who says, "I have a hard time believing that the gear needs replaced every five years, that's just my personal opinion." ?????

Who IS that idiot? Since when did your F'ING OPINION MEAN JACK SQUAT about when safety gear should be replaced? Louderbeck? Is that the guy's name?

  • .....this shows how ignorant politicians are of the equipment we use. When they let politics get in the way of safety they need voted out of office! I wonder if the "fine" councilman rocking in the chair purchased that chair himself? Vote no on Issue 2, for leaving these issues in the hands of people like this is bad for the public and our firefighters!

  • Its been awhile for this but now is the time for change. These two council members seats are up in Nov 2011 and one new person is running. If you live in Xenia please vote for Josh Long.. Born and raised in Xenia he understands budgets and how to stick to them but more important he knows how important police and firemen are and will do what he can to ensure the city does what they can to keep them safe

  • Bet he'd wear new gear if it was his stupid ass going in ps 80,000 a year? his salary or the ffs he's trying to screw over?

  • I bet that council member didnt pay for that Diet Coke he's drinking.

  • These council members NEED to stop in the Fire House and LEARN what the hell goes on. OMG the idiots have NO clue.......

  • What a bunch of douche bags these coucil people are. Glad I don't live in this town. People of Xenia, WAKE UP, Vote these idiots out of office. Fireman & Police Officers put their lives on the line everyday. They shouldn't have to purchase ANY of their equipt. Next these nuts will want the ff's to buy their own fire trucks.

  • WTF!!!! I wonder if the councilman bought that chair he was sitting in or maybe the lights they had on so that his meeting wasn't in the dark. Maybe he should put on that 5 year old gear and sit in a burning room for 20 mins. I bet he would be crying like a baby. Just my opinion!!!!!!!!!! LOL I could only imagine what they would have said is they needed new SCBA!!!!

  • compare firemen to carpenter? that's comparing apples to oranges. bet if those 2 council members had their houses burn down and the fire deparment showed up and didn't go in because their gear didn't meet the standard, they'd vote for new gear then

  • I dont think these council members understand that through the use of the gear it gets worn down. The same thing could be said for a HAZ-MAT suit that is considered unuseable after so many hours. If there is direct contact to a flame or extended use in a fire, the gear is to be tested and replaced as needed. Mechanics and carpenters buy their own tools because they usually go into business for themselves. We dont own our own business. Gear is cheaper than a hospital bill or funeral.

  • I have wrenches and other tools that I bought over 25 years ago, I don't have to replace them every five years. Can't compare bunker gear with tools. These people are nuts. Hand me down gear, lol might as well go buy the gear at Goodwill. Why don't we cut the Council's salary better yet vote this current Council out. Your opinion, lol are you a firefighter? Blows my mind.

  • Firemen and police officers help keep order and keep people's homes safe, jobs most people won't do. To be stupid enough to actually compare being a fireman to being a plumber. Are you serious? Councilmen if your home catches on fire or your home is robbed, these people will come help you and this is how you repay them? You need voted out, you bunch of losers. Nice expensive council room, nice swivel chairs?? Cut cost there, with your fancy office stuff. Buy the firemen and cops safety gear!

  • My husband is a fireman and in the 17 years we've been married, there hasn't been one shift he's gone to work that I wasn't painfully aware that he may not come home in the morning. I'm doubting that a carpenter's wife has those same concerns. I'm just saying - there is a difference between a hammer and protective gear. Of course that's just my opinion.

  • oh my god

  • got some real smart council people in Xenia. Time to vote them all out of their high and mighty positions. That kind of attitude would be enough for me as an employee to attempt to find a job elsewhere. These people are sickening, I hope the citizens of Xenia tell them good ridance. Complete idiots.

  • This makes me SICK they would care when a firefighter cannot make a entry into their own home!! They dont give a DAMN about those men who depend on this gear this is not sompthing that can be put on hold!! how about they put fire calls on hold to these council members homes. SCUMBBAGS

Let these assholes put junk gear on and do entry work!! I dont think they would

  • This makes me SICK they would care when a firefighter cannot make a entry into their own home!! They dont give a DAMN about those men who depend on this gear this is not sompthing that can be put on hold!! how about they put fire calls on hold to these council members homes. SCUMBBAGS

  • There is also an OSHA requirement (§ 1910.132(h)) that the employer supply all necessary PPE. If one firefighter is injured, killed or disabled because budget cutting, overpaid, bureaucrats can't take a pay cut or find another source to balance their budget they should be held accountable. Remember YOU elected them. Be a responsible American and VOTE them out!

  • OMG....WONT BE LIVIN THERE.....LIKE I HAVE THAT KINDA MONEY TO BUY GEAR..I CANT EVEN AFFORD SOME OF THE "LITTLE EXTRAS I'D LIKE TO HAVE ...RIGHT ANGLE FLASHLIGHT ,BETTER HELMET FLASHLIGHT..BAILOUT ROPE SYSTEM....THIS WHATS WRONG WITH GOVT.......PUBLIC SAFETY ALWAYS TAKES THE HIT......MAYBE THESE GUYS ON THE COUNCIL SHOULD GO INTO THE BURN BUILDING WITH THAT OLD GEAR....THEN THEY'D KNOW...

  • email these council people.

  • The council members that suggested firefighters purchase their own gear should be ashamed of themselves. My favorite part is the council member who says "I have a hard time believing they need replacing after 5 years". He goes on to admit it's just his opinion.....why open your mouth when you have no factual basis for your statement? None at all. Pure opinion....and these are the types of people that we elect to run our governments.

  • Remind me not to move there. If they don't stick by their safety departments they won't stick by you as a resident.

  • That guy needs to be voted off that board. I would tell the residents we are going to stay out and fight your fire because we don't feel safe in our gear to come get you and they will not spend the money on new gear. That chief should stand more ground for his guys and let that man know how damm stupid he is.

  • Wait until the first time a Fire Fighter gets hurt, the city won't have to worry then as it will be bankrupt from the subsequent lawsuit. WOW!

  • Good God voting no on a safety issue? i hate potiticians who have NO GRASP of safety for firefighters. The chief should have done a presenataion instead of just a request for replacement. if the standard is 10 yrs and replacement 5 say it that way that this is required every 5 years. thats the standard and the truth

  • this is like a bad dream, do the councilmen understand no tool maker is coming to save his ass in a fire with the tools that he has to buy, so if firefighters have to buy gear why should they use the tools they would have to pay for to save his ass, HELLO it's call doing right thing in the name of SAFETY!!! if i was a tax payer in Xenia maybe it's time to look at the council and see if they maybe should pay to hold that seat

  • Wow... What's the motivation for such hate and contempt by the city councilmen? You've gotta love the one guy who tries to make his point and doesn't even know if the city buys bulletproof vests or not.

  • Unbelievable. I never thought I would see the day when politicians across this country would attack the fire service like they have. Every day you hear another horror story. I guess it won't be long until we see LODD's on the rise again.

  • these people need to be voted out. horrible horrible politicians

  • Last time I check the roll of Government was to protects it's people. That means Moneys should go to fire departments and police departments foremost. The luxuries should come second.

  • It seems like in the last few years local politicians have completely lost there mind. It seems like our history is repeating itself. If you read some of the history of how fire departments started out, you read stories of people would bring it too the attention of elected officials and they would vote it down and say its not needed. Then a fire would burn a house or barn down and the money became available to start a local fire department.

  • wow these council men and women are a bunch of fucktards that have no business being on council!!!! take notes before you make a decision you assholes! having gear for 5 years is a long time, especially when you actually run fire calls! What a bunch of fucking idiots...hope they remember their decision when they themselves have to call the firefighters for help!

  • wow these council men and women are a bunch of fucktards that have no business being on council!!!! take notes before you make a decision you assholes! having gear for 5 years is a long time, especially when you actually run fire calls! What a bunch of fucking idiots...this video has made me so happy that I wasn't hired by Xenia and that I'm now working for a department/county that takes care of their firefighters!

  • speaking of bullet proof vests. perhaps a few of the councilors should purchase thier own. protective gear isnt a tool! comparing a carpenter to a firefighter is assinine. whats next soldiers buying thier own ammo? Id love to know what those cowardly jackasses on council do for a living. backwoods and bush

  • . A life is something you can not replace. so keep that in mind when you use the emergancy services the next time. It is the councils JOB to provide safty equipment ( gear ) to the firefighters. per the state of Ohio.. google it, On the other hand your ignorance is unwarranted Pararib 1 so.enough said.

  • @jewel43 i second this :)

  • Pararon1 I would like to address you, I do not know what you do for a living.(if anything) but I a sure you dont run in a burning building, you are one that is running out when they (firefighters) are running in to save others BUTTs( being nice) so think very hard before you open your mouth.. SAFTY IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING. I am sure you want them(firefighters) to save your FAMILY and your HOME ,

  • I hope you don't need the FD at your house. Your opinion that is good for longer then 5 years? Did you design the gear? Let them wear the gear from those you laid off, that's like sharing under ware. Those who voted not need voted out soon. What's next not buying bullets for the police? MORONS gear wears out with use how can you stand by the date issue

  • I live right outside of Xenia and I have a lot of instructors and co-workers that used to work for that department, and have friends that live and work in Xenia. This just makes me SICK!!

  • How in the BLANK can you compare a firefighter's gear to the tools of other trades?! Firefighters put their lives on the line to protect everyone. The ones on the council that want to vote against the new gear are idiots! Not only should the people of that town vote them out of office, they should also run them out of town. I just wish I could have the opportunity to call them braindead morons to their face. Rocks are smarter than these people.

  • this is complete bull shit! i bet these councilmen and women will be wishing they approved new gear when their house is on fire and the firefighters refuse to enter the structure.

  • I think its funny how the one joker throws "$80,000 a year" as a salary for an average firefighter. I know that I've never made 80K. Maybe I should move to Xenia.

  • @medic319

    not just you

what kind of bs stat was that?

  • In Delaware we have a day where politicians are invited to visit the State Fire School, go through the smoke house, and get a small taste of what we do. They've said it's an eye opener, sounds like some politicians in Xenia would benefit from a similar program.

  • Funny how these guys make 100's of thousands of dollars a year and they want the people who only make in the 40 - 60 thou a year range to furnish their own gear. Call OBAMA when your life is in Jeopardy..... Bet I'll know what answer you get....

  • @Pararon1 Dude, Obama... really? WTF? You are saying that a couple of people on the City Council that have been listening to too much Tea Party rhetoric = Obama? I don't get it!

  • All we can do is vote these morons out. My old dept. begged to have the fire equipment in the front of our parades evry year. I personnaly heard the village pres. say f__k 'em, let 'em wait. That very parade his wife fell under his own float representing his comany. When we started blowing our horns & sirens all the people ahead of us clapped thinking it was just part of the parade. The response time was at least doubled! What an answer to ignorant thinking!

  • Maybe someone should advise the city council to read the Ohio Administrative Code 4123:1 Division of Safety, Chapter 4123:1-21-02 (A) The employer shall provide and require the use of personal protective clothing and equipment...

It took me about 5 minutes to locate that doing a web search.

BTW - I'm from WA state, not Ohio.

  • If they refuse your offer advise the voting public in your district, and don't forget to invite the press. Amazing what you have to do to properly motivate a politician. Best of luck brothers.

  • So I say this to the officer in this video, please invite that board to a training give them the basics and then issue them some spare gear, lets say some 9 year old gear thats starting to dry rot and bring them into a burn house or a flash simulator, my bet is they will find a new respect for what proper gear is all about.

  • Unreal, you have to love the knowledge of those that we the people elect to oversee the safety to the public and the employees that protect them, so I say don't mock them for being uneducated in our trade, It is up to us to show them the light and offer them the opportunity to broaden their knowledge and be responsible to us

  • John G. Caupp jcaupp@ci.xenia.oh.us 936 Orville Way 374-0031/Home 603-3120/Cell Current Term: 01/01/2008 to 12/31/2011 Dale Louderback dlouderback@ci.xenia.oh.us 1272 Eagles Way 376-2504/Home 271-6060/Cell Current Term: 01/01/2008 to 12/31/2011
  • THe sad thing is that this isn't unbelievable any more. This stuff is going on all over the country. To the dips**t council member who was talking about tool and dye makers and carpenters buying their own tools: hammers, drills, and saws don't save the lives of their users.

  • @mnjbooth You took the words right out of my mouth!

  • Thats a typical city council for you. How pathetic, we deal with similiar issues with our council. This is everywhere and it is sad, its evident that a lot of places buying mowers & shovels for public works is more important than making sure the fire dept. is staffed fully with the right tools for the job. I'm glad that at least some of that council was able to see the need.

  • Well done on keeping your cool. This is why I support the PAC in behind the scene things instead of public speaking. I would have a very hard time not making some comment to those ignorant council members. For being the "City of Hospitality," that's a great big 'F you' to the fire dept. I'm all for reducing expenses in times like these, but it needs to be done in areas that don't jeopardize the safety and response of the personnel.

  • Buy their own? What about those fancy office chairs the council sits in? Or those laptop computers?

  • I agree, these two numbnuts need to go thru a live fire training in their skivvies and see how they like it! I assume they are educated in something - maybe they need to educate themselves a lot more on exactly what the fire service does! The notion that a FF should purchase their own gear is beyond ridiculous. Yeah, we are in a recession, but there is no price on FF safety.

  • Maybe these 2 people would like to see their names on a document suing the city for noncompliance of a standard which was agreed upon. There should have been no discussion on this purchase. he should educate himself on what he is doing other than just taking up space on the council.

    Good Job Chief

Maybe you should extend an invite to this clown and do some live fire training with him!!!!!!!

  • Firefighters are required to use other equipment such as, specific fire trucks in order to accomplish the firefighting objective. What are the city council members of this city going to require next? The firefighters make payments on the trucks? Those two guys are pathetic. Maybe they should send them through some live fire training in their boxers! Stay safe Xenia Firefighters!!!!

  • What a load of crap!! How could people be that thick. At least the motion passed. Support to my brothers and sisters in Xenia Fire, From Stevens Creek VFD

  • @FFahall Agreed. Support Firefighters all over the country. Glad to see the president stuck up for the firefighters too. Small victory, but a victory no less.
