@maydayfire I used to think the same thing. firearms are not nearly as effective as the spray is. it is not about whether a .44 is a large enough round to put a bear down when placed in the right spot, it is about decreasing your room for error. Bear spray decreases your chances of error. Using a handgun increases your chance of error. If you are a backpacker chances are you do not want to pack a shotgun. Bear spray is still your best option. I will carry both but bear spray is first...
rofl the bear baahahahahahaha... why not carry a 357 magnum or a 308 winchester :p just j/k I dont wanna kill smokey and this would be good to have with the family :p the bear spray
I thik this product should be carried by hikers in all the national forest becouse it not only stops bears it will detour cougers and wolfs as well very good vid.5/5
This was totally awesome both from an entertainment and learning point of view. I am pro gun but with a love of nature and animals, this is the way I'll go when not hunting. You've sold me! Thanks!!
That is another awesome video!! I have known the author for a number of years and her work is always impeccable. I do not camp or hike often, but this summer I have been invited to the mountains to camp with neighbors. I would not have thought to bring anything like this along, but I will be packing a can or two for the trip as I will have my kids and dog along for the weekend.
Great work, great use of a cool song and pictures!!!!
Quick question: I usually take my dog camping in WV (love the John Denver bit). Coyotes are pretty rampant like squirrels as well as bears. Does having a dog make us more of a target for potential attacks from bears/coyotes? Sleeping in a tent doesn't offer much protection.
No. I have several CA customers who use my 'electronic watchdog' in their backyard to scare bears away. It is the recorded sound of a barking dog. They swear by it.
The biggest thing that attracts bears especially is the smell of food. So be careful with that and make sure you have some bear spray always at the ready.
Plus your dog will be your radar-warning you of potential danger.
She doesn't bark! Only if you are a sheep, pack of dogs playing, or a ball that won't roll! Thank you for the information! The bear sounds on this video scare my dog!
It should be pointed out though that if a dog is running loose(I'm not saying you let yours)it may chase a bear or cougar and antagonize it into attacking, the result may be a dog running back to its owner with a highly ticked off animal chasing it.
AS an avid mountain runner, I will definatelty purchase one of these. I was running in the mountains one time, and had a great run. After my run, on my drive home, a lady in the street stopped me to ask for a ride in my car. She said there was a Mama Bear and her cubs down the road, and she didn´t want to take any chances. I am glad I saw the bears from inside my car and not alone on the trails! p.s. I love the music! John Denver Rocks!!!!!!
Rockrimmon is right up the road from me I25. There are bears there too. They are attracted to the smells of food. There sensitive noses are exactly why the pepper spray works so well-they can't stand it!!
I just ordered 3 from your aaa-safetyfirst website, it was easy and I feel so much better about my upcoming vacation plans. Glad I watched this. Will 3 be enough I wonder? We're backpacking for 2 weeks. What would you suggest?
Cool video Gisele!! even the music is neat. Bears are scary. Folks who go camping, hiking, fishing, hunting should always have bear pepper spray with them.
I'm planning a trip to Colorado this summer with the kids. I will purchase several of these before we venture out. I think a big bear would find my kids awfully cute. It's just not worth it, not to be prepared. Thanks for the tips!
just use a pistol or shotgun, best defense ever against a bear.
